I preordered Dragon Age 2 and was pretty dissapointed in how different it was from the original and previous Bioware RPGs. I figured that not many people actually sit down and write physical letters anymore so took it upon myself to type up my feelings and mail it to him. I think some of my main points in the letter were bringing back the top down viewpoint, being able to equip companions, having different races, etc....

Today, I was shocked to actually get a personal response from him in my email. Here it is:

"Hello Nathan,

Thanks very much for your letter regarding the future of Dragon
Age. It’s always humbling to receive a note from a dedicated fan.

As to your concerns, thank you for the specific feedback, as it
helps us determine where we’ll head in the future. Luckily, many of your
concerns are things that I agree should be addressed in some manner,
and we’ll continue to evolve the DA games as we
go forward.

Mike.."

This gives me hope that he is listening to the feedback and does care about the future of the franchise.

No offense, but when I think of someone actually writing a physical letter or email to someone to complain about something, I think of Grandpa Simpson.

Anyway, that was just an aside. It's cool that you got a response. I was never worried about whether they cared about the franchise, but if you were I hope this alleviates some of that anxiety.

Oh cool, that was certainly nice of him and it's good to hear that the Devs are taking an interest in the feedback despite not being all that vocal since the game launch.

I think the guy got a lot of stick aimed at him, when you have to consider that DA:2 was the result of a team. As lead designer I'm sure he had a lot of power over the general direction of the series, but as far as individual stories/mechanics are concerned, that would be more the remit of the head of that area. Though DA:2 wasn't my personal cup of tea, it wasn't quite as bad as people on the forums make out either. So yeah, good for Mike for responding.

Glad you are happy and all, but that sounds like a pre-generated form letter response. I would have been excited if he responded to some specific criticism you had. But he didn't.

I'm not sure why people think they wouldn't listen to feedback or care about the future of the franchise. That doesn't mean they'll reach the same conclusions a given player has as to what that should entail, of course.

But nice letter. Thanks for sharing.

That was very nice of him. I do believe they are listening to feedback. That's why I direct people who occasionally ask about feedback, to the crit and reviews threads. Glad you got a response though!

If only he would've responded to your issues with the game point-by-point. For example: If you had a problem with the voiced PC limiting you to one race, and having lesser RP'ing, and he would've given a clear answer about whether they'r continuing in that direction or not. Nevertheless, i was still very kind of him to respond :)

Quite, that's totally a canned response that could be used to respond to ANY letter that had almost any critique or concern about the game.

Sounds like a rushed letter amidst other rushed letters.

I think you guys would know that any response I made to point by point criticism would be dissected a million times over. As it stands, I thought it was very cool to receive a hand-written letter, and while I can't talk in detail about future plans, someone taking the time to write me deserved a response.

Dismiss it as a form letter if you will, but the simple truth is that we are listening. Keenly. And when we have clear, specific responses that we can commit to, you will have them.

And thanks again for the letter, SDT. Though, you might consider giving San Diego back, I hear California's been looking for it.

I, for one, didn't mean to say you weren't listening.  I am sure Bioware is very much concerned about the fan response.  Hopefully EA will keep its distance on future projects after this.

I was just saying the response sounded rather generic.  Hmm, next time you could say something like "I was really touched by your hand-written letter" or something.  That sends a pretty clear message that your response is unique.  That's just my opinion though.

Do you mean he betrayed his King but for the reason to save his country (even though it wasn't a good idea) , and even though he is a traitor we still respect or even like him?

Wait to see if the words will translate into reality before jumping on all those who tell you they are listening. Here we see specifically whether it does or not.
