I preordered Dragon Age 2 and was pretty dissapointed in how different it was from the original and previous Bioware RPGs. I figured that not many people actually sit down and write physical letters anymore so took it upon myself to type up my feelings and mail it to him. I think some of my main points in the letter were bringing back the top down viewpoint, being able to equip companions, having different races, etc....

Today, I was shocked to actually get a personal response from him in my email. Here it is:

"Hello Nathan,

Thanks very much for your letter regarding the future of Dragon
Age. It’s always humbling to receive a note from a dedicated fan.

As to your concerns, thank you for the specific feedback, as it
helps us determine where we’ll head in the future. Luckily, many of your
concerns are things that I agree should be addressed in some manner,
and we’ll continue to evolve the DA games as we
go forward.

Mike.."

This gives me hope that he is listening to the feedback and does care about the future of the franchise.

I think you guys would know that any response I made to point by point criticism would be dissected a million times over. As it stands, I thought it was very cool to receive a hand-written letter, and while I can't talk in detail about future plans, someone taking the time to write me deserved a response.

Dismiss it as a form letter if you will, but the simple truth is that we are listening. Keenly. And when we have clear, specific responses that we can commit to, you will have them.

And thanks again for the letter, SDT. Though, you might consider giving San Diego back, I hear California's been looking for it.

Let's not turn this into yet another PC vs. console war.

And Mykel54, we do take feedback to heart. We've been doing so since the first previews came out, since release and the first user reviews were posted, and continually since then here in our online community. I would just remind folks that the dev team also has feedback and ideas for where to go from here, and that occasionally their ideas will differ from yours. It doesn't mean we're not listening, as we do keep community feedback in mind, it means that feeback is neither right nor wrong, and the scope of game development scope necessarily is a lot bigger than most people can imagine. Feedback, constructive criticism, rants, raves, and all of that is something for us to consider--sometimes strongly, sometimes as a reminder, sometimes "VERY YES," sometimes "HECK NO."

You guys are awesome, if sometimes snarky. :D

I am glad that all this negativity hasnt caused the devs to throw up their hands and go "we give up" on the community.

Nah, you'll know we've given up when we pull the plug. We do have the plug, after all. It's right here. And yellow. ;)

But yes, we have been listening, and will continue to do so, especially now that the signal is outweighing the noise. I'll try and post something a little meatier in the next little while, but I want to slowly open up the dialog and talk about specifics; it does a disservice to us all if I can only speak in vaguaries.

Since folks aren't really interested in discussing the topic anymore, I'm shutting it down. Please don't spam the forums.

End of line.
