I've been a huge Mass Effect fan since the release of the first game. The game is truly a well written, deep engrossing Sci-Fi story that can easily win any player over after 1 hour of gameplay. I still remember the controversey of the alleged graphic sex scene being covered by the media. Though this turned out to be false the game was still attacked because of the fear of children watching pixel animation characters performing sexual acts. Though I will always be a fan of the first two games, I believe that Bioware needs to seriously consider having an option to just turn the same sex romance off for the third game.
Bioware will indeed have to introduce male characters that are homosexual wether it be Kaiden or any other new male character. And as a writer myself, I know for a fact that which ever characters are homosexual will have to hint to this throughout their background story dialouge and flirtation will have to arise every so often while the characters communicate with one another. This was the same format for all the characters that Shepherd could have a romance with for both Male/Female. That is the part that I really don't want to expereince. I don't want to listen and respond to options of the same sex character flirting or hitting on me. I want to play the game as a fun Sci-Fi epic hero experenice; not a sexualility discovering charcter driven game. If bioware wants to introduce homosexuality in the game as a positive thing they need to included also the option to view as a negative. Everything can't just be accepted, even in the future.
God was talked about in the first Mass Effect by Ashley. And Legion was named after a man possessed with many devils from the Bible. With that said, Bioware has presented the fact that Christianity is apart of their Universe as well as other religions. Bioware needs to give the player the choice to view homosexuality the way the player views it. Whether there for it or against it. Giving the player the choice to only look at it positively is linear and forces only one opinion on the matter. I trust that the writing team can do so in a way that makes the dialogue not hateful. If Mass Effect greatest aspect is choice, then please give us players the ability for that option.
Fixed your post for easier reading, the title may cause some people to come with torches and pitchforks, but I feel that your argument has some good points in it.

I read the entire wall of text and you can still have your super special fun time yeah ok Sci-Fi epic without getting involved in a gay romance. You can also have your badass Sci-Fi epic WITH a gay romance...you people seem to think like now that Shepard has the option to like penis that it's the end of Mass Effect as we know it...grow the **** up
besides, just because YOUR Shepard isn't gay doesn't mean you should restrict the option for other Shepards...and yes, I know that the OP is suggesting a feature in the options menu to switch gaydom off but that's ****ing stupid. If I can tamper with the sexuality of the NPC's then by all rights and logic I should have the option to make everybody gay, everybody bi, or everybody straight, hell...even everybody super celibate...it just doesn't make sense...if you don't like it, don't interact with them...

Please I'm begging you look up the definition of "choice". It isn't something you have to do, it's something you elect to do. Games are all about possibilities don't destroy a medium because of ideology.

I must say that this is really getting out of hand. It's just a game.
This, honestly this all is making me really sad, my opinion of this community is sinking.
Nah, don't get upset necessarily with the ME2 community... if anything Bioware games generally attract more open minded individuals in general... just be annoyed / upset with your fellow human beings in general for being spiteful, hate-ridden lifeforms. There's nothing about the Bioware / MAss Effect community that draws those people here.... just humans being their usual "I hate & fear everything I don't understand" selves.... it was useful when we were primitive cavemen.. kept us safe from snakes & fire.... but sadly these trappings are difficult to get rid of for some.
I like and agree with your post, in all honesty im just getting frustrated and slightly pissed at some of the more neolithic members of this community.

If it's extremely hard to get into a relationship (s/s and normal)I'm fine with the same sex stuff, but if it's like how the current system works, I really don't want to have to avoid or think how not to get in a relationship with a character.
I guess I can over look the fact that none of the previous characters have shown gay tendencies... Still not sure what these sort of relationships add to the game, besides taking away development time on other things

I still think it's silly to introduce s/s romances this late in the series. Providing to a small minority of the players still feels like a marketingploy nothing more nothing less. I also think the gaycommunity is way to vocal about it, it should be oke not to have gayness in a game, it's not homophobic to not have it. Also it is totally lacking in the ME universe, there is no reference to it or to the opinion about it (if the majority of the world acceps it in the future or if it still is frown upon by the mayority) and we don't know if the same defect exists in other species. For instance one could reason it is a part of Krogan society (for the lack of fertile females) or the opposite, that it's heavily frowned upon because not working to keep the species alive. Also the chances of having 2-3 human teammates and one of them being gay is pretty slim. As said it's a minority.
- ME does have homosexuality in it already, both the games and the books.
- "Gayness", as you put it (or would you prefer "teh gay"?), is optional to your Shepard
- Homosexuality is a defect now?
Troll harder phoborific troll.
