I'm a little confused about accuracy rating. Is the higher the value the better?
Seems like some sniper rifles have less accruacy than pistols and one would think it would be the other way around. And some higher level sniper rifles have lower accuracy rating than lower level sniper rifles.

Can anybody shed light on the matter?

I guess nobody knows the answer to the above either? :o

Pretty much is all is laid out in the ME Wiki:

http://masseffect.wi...iki/Mass_Effect

and/or check out some of the ME game guides (FAQs) on gamefaqs.com

I have been playing Mass Effect for about two weeks now. It is a GREAT game. I can't believe I missed it all these years. Then again, I recently finished Dragon Age: Origins which I never noticed before. I'm starting to take lots of interest in Bioware games now. :-)

Anyways...... I'm playing an infiltrator on Veteran level. I must say that aside from a few hard fights initially, the game so far is pretty easy. I started making it more challenging by taking Geth bosses with lights arms instead of MAKO. Maybe this was due to the fact that I did side quests in 3-4 systems prior of doing main mission quests so I was already more powerful. Unfortunately, from what I understand, higher difficulty settings unlock only after you finish the game - bad design in my opinion. Having the game already too easy I have to finish it first to make it more challenging? Duh.....

I have a few questions which I still haven't figured exactly, even after reading posts and wiki:
  • Weapon precision: I assume the higher the better. Various upgrades improve that ability as well?
  • There are weapon upgrades which add 30% power weapon. What does that mean exactly? Overall damage (which would be both against synthetic and organic targets)?
  • There are armor upgrades which speed shield recharging. Seems to me much better to have more shield to begin with so that is pretty useless.
  • Where do I purchase grenades? I find them useful, from time to time, when enemy is hiding behind corner or when those Geth rubber jumpy thingies jump up and down from the ceileing.

[*]Higher is Better, si. I think the low rating on some sniper rifles is because without the zoom you can't hit anything
[*]I might be wrong but I think thats the knockback force, or the stopping force, so it makes it better at staggering enemies, which is good for reducing the amount of fire your taking, or stopping something like Krogan from getting to close.
[*]Depends. Quicker recharge I find is better for power-heavy classes as your taking cover more often. This ones about play style. However the standard shield recharging speed sucks, so the best is a little in each department.
[*]Ummm...You don't, you find grenades, I don't think you can buy them. You can buy grenade carrying capacity upgrades that come with a free grenade, but thats about it.

The level of a weapon is one of two impotant factors that determine it's efficacy. The other is the manufacturer. For example, a level 7 sniper rifle from Elanus Risk Control is probably equal to a level 5 sniper from Rosenkov Materials. That's guess work, but I think I've made my point.

Think of it like this...go to a store and look at toy guns. There's a nerf dart gun, and a generic knock-off. They both do the same thing, but the nerf gun is gonna be better. And, just like in mass effect, the better gear costs more, but it sells for more too.

Also, you're going to need to dump alot of points into sniper rifles and get at least level 7, high grade weapons before sniper rifles are even worth you time. We're talking accuracy ratings in the seventies or higher.

Yes, I noticed that. I have the maximum (12 points) and I'm finally able to take a good shot most of the times. However, so far, I found sniper to be useful only in situations where you use the MAKO (where you have lots of area to cover and hence a distance to snipe).

^^for snipers i found that using explosive amo worked perfectly, its always shaky (i think because i have low skill points on sniper?) so even if i miss a little bit, the bullet has like a 500 AOE damage lol. it may cause overheat constantly (i think i gives you like 500% heat generation), but its def worth it for the power. also you can easily no-scope and use it for a shotgun close range (with explosive rounds modded on that is).
lots of good advice, as i am currently finishing up my last ME1 playthru then its off to ME2 XD. i think a huge problem for a new player coming to this game is that inventory. even for somebody like me (who is really used to RPG, or upgrading/skills/weapons), it is very confusing when you first see all those upgrades, mods, omni gel and such. eventually what happend to me (and i think this is pretty common) is i had way too many useless weapons/upgrades. it helps out alot if you sell your unwanted loot when you are at the citadel, or to that guy in the basement of normandy. i remember wishing somebody gave me that advice when i started the game, lol.

*also i didnt realize the mako could jump (hover), or shoot the cannon (i was just using turret gun) until the better half of my second playthru. lol, which is kind of sad, but for the most part mako made me rage and do a speedrun past those enemies. something that i just recently learned about the mako is it can revive your dwned squadmates, if your unity ability is on CD or something. for example, i am always getting off the mako to kill geth colloses/armeture on foot, if squadmates get sniped by the blue balls i just hop back in and out.

I agree, the inventory can be quite confusing. Another annoying issue is that you can't level your companions until you exit the ship. It is useful if you can advance their skills can equip that medium or heavy armor on them instead of having it linger in your inventory.
