I really expected him to drop an item called like "Ring of Kang".

By the way, there are also some great PS:T references in the game.

To set the record straight:

1) Those who said Gaxkang was "too easy" -- what difficulty were you playing at? If you played nightmare - hats off to you. If you played on Easy/Normal/Hard, of course the game will be too easy. I wish there was an option to "lock" difficulty when creating a character and tie achievement to it (there aren't achievements for difficulty because casual players are expected to ramp down difficulty for boss fights). Secondly, a 5th difficulty would be interesting (perhaps require one full walkthrough).

2) I killed him on nightmare on my second attempt (used about 4 lesser mana potions and 2 health) and he's harder than high dragons on nightmare. I found that debuffing him is not that useful because he'll dispel it (I play 3 mages+tank). I suggest focusing on magical DPS with basic single-target spells instead of debuffs (mana clash removes about 1/3 life). Also, as soon as I entered, I sent 2 people behind the wall in the other room to avoid cone of cold/pull/mass pull line of sight.

His lich form used following spells: misdirection, miasma, cone of cold, heal, dispel magic, anti-magic burst. Petrify/Cone of cold work to interrupt his spells, though naturally they last less than 3s on NM.

His stuns can really hurt and if he gets on one of the mages, then it's hard to heal if stunned.

Love the Kangaxx fight in BG2, nice to see a reference!

Well...now we need a Twisted Rune gang!!

Actually, my first reaction was "wow, they just plagiarized BG2, I wonder how the creators of Kangaxx will react".

Yeah, I forgot for a second that the creators of DAO and BG2 were the same :D

At some points the game felt like an easter-egg carnival. But fortunately it never quite went over the top. ;)

You obviously haven't visited the cemetary in Haven yet :)

I lost the first time I fought him. My mage got taken out early and that kind of nixed things. Then I kind of realized as the fight just got down to the tank that he wasn't that hard as I just kept popping potions and with a full party you can see he's not that bad. He could of been tougher. I noticed lighting spells worked well. With that said, I think he was the toughest solo boss of the game. If he had minions that would of been bad.

It's actually a random back alley or something.

Anyway, Gaxkang turned out to be far far easier than I expected. Maybe he'll be more of a challenge with my all-warrior party this time around.

He isn't. I had an easier time in this fight with my all warrior party than I did with a "regular" party. And my warriors were on Nightmare, compared to Hard with the other group.

Folks need to mention the PC level you are attempting to take him on. He kicked my arse at 14 level/Hard a number of times.

But I love the line....Witness Gaxxkang!

I finally did this quest last night.

I don't see what everyone is talking about, he was fairly easy.

The Archdemon was supposedly more powerful, but I'm not convinced.

Put down the crack pipe.  I just beat the High Dragon last night, and seems about par with Gaxkangg.  I'm sure he's a push over on easy...

Anyway, what level are folks completing this...????

I defeated him on hard and nightmare. Overall, not that much of a difference between the two difficulties.

I actually ran into him on accident while goofing around in my first game. Hell of a fight for my rookie playthrough.

A nice tribute to the old days, but way too easy compared to his namesake :P

Haha really? I had a much easier time with Kangaxx back in the day, once I reloaded of course, the first time I was caught with my pants down. Of all the places to run into a Lich.

Not just a Lich but a freakin Demi Lich.

I recall when I first ran into that fight. I got rather giddy.

Tough fight. Much tougher than the BG2 version once you get rid of the Kangaxx's absolute cheesiness. Gaxkangg was much cooler.

I never found him that hard. Tank tanks, rogue backstabs, mages heal, and he dies like all the rest. Nothing compared to Kangaxx, who was by far the most difficult enemy in BGII on account of his imprisonment spell. The only sure way to win was to use one of the extremely rare anti-magic scrolls. There was also immunity to abjuration but that was self only on your mage and if you weren't a super-powered mage/fighter then you had no way to damage him. So basically absent the scroll, which made the fight easy, you were basically rolling the dice and hoping "please don't imprison an important character". The really annoying part was that, while you could use Freedom scrolls to get your lost teammates back, the effect removed them from the party and thus broke any quest interactions you may have been having with them.

Ultimately I'm glad they didn't replicate annoying aspects of Kangaxx, but I do wish the fight had been a little bit more epic and that there was more buildup, because after 2 playthroughs I still have no idea what Gaxkang was, why he was there, or even what I did that opened up the fight for me.

The High Dragon was hard. This guy was nothing compared to the Dragon. All I had to do was gang-rush him. I was around level 21.

Well i took on the High Dragon with me, Al, Morr, Wynne. I am duel wield, Al with shield. Morr did not last long, and wynne kept us alive. But very tough and long fight. I was quite giddy after. Probably one of the best all time kills of a BI/BW crpg.
