So I bought the digital download of DA Origins: Ultimate Edition from the eastore.com and installed it.

Went in to play and everything seemed fine until the character creation. The screen where my character was standing turned red....then after I created him...when the actual game play started...the screen would flicker different colors.

Is there something I need to do?

There are a very great many possibilities, any and all of which are "that depends" sorts of things that you haven't quite set yourself up to get answers about. I think that know one in particular right away, but I really didn't get a good feeling from what you wrote, that you came into the forum seriously interested in fixing what's wrong, else you would surely have put your eyeglasses on  when you came in here, and actually looked around at all of the massive resources the forum has to offer you.

Did you see a pinned mesage thread ("sticky") starting with "Read First"? Did you read it before I nagged you about it? When you take your blinders off so that you can follow what it tells you to do, then the easy answers will be much more possible.

When DAO was new (the way I remember things), at least 8-10 of the same symptom were reported, and all responded to the same fix.  Somehow, however, only two survived for Google *OR* the Social Site's own very crippled, terrible excuse for a search to locate.  I don't know where they went, unless there's an automatic archival system culling out the oldest stuff now (about time, I should think, considering how badly the site's Search works).

Had you provided DRIVER data,  we might have had a handle on things.

Well damn...my apologies. I'm at work right now and I will have to repost all that information when I get home.

Seriously though...is there a need for the stuck up attitude?
Could you not have just told me to read that thread instead of questioning my seriousness about fixing this issue? I wouldn't be here if I wasn't serious.

However, your post doesn't put me off...I'm sure there are nice and reasonable people here on these forums.

I plan to put up my specs when I get home from work here in 5 hours.

However, in the meantime...does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?

I'm going to assume it's my video card.

I now know how to "fix" this issue...however, now that I'm off work, I can post my system specs.

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7700 @ 2.40 GHz
1.00 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600

The more complete answer is available in the ME-1 PC Tech Self-Help forum, but you still have not taken advantage of the game's built-in configurator to see what it tells you about all of the details you left out of the description of the system.

Processor Manufacturer: AMD / Intel
Processor Name / Type: Athlon X2 / Pentium D / C2D / dual core / quad, etc.
Processor Speed:  ?.? Ghz
Operating System / Service Pack: WindowsXP with SP #?, Win7, Vista ?
System RAM: ? ? GBs (MBs, if less than 1024 ? )
Video (GPU) Manufacturer: ATI / Nvidia (only those two are supported, PERIOD, so please answer which of them you have)
Video Card Model: (examples) Radeon HD 6670 / Geforce GT 450

Video Card Driver Date and Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
. . (please use the numbers, and dates, *not* the word "latest")
Video Card onboard RAM: ? ? ? MBs
Audio Processor Driver version and date
Audio Processor Manufacturer:
Audio Processor Model:

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (this is clearly wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce "6600 GT" 128MB or greater (and this one is more wrong)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO, same thing, almost) for medium or better textures)

Now, to compare the (Desktop) HD 2600 Pro to the X1650 XT:

You're sure about that?  I see you didn't stick around after making that comment.

Just wanted to say that I really appreciate all the info.

I went back to eastore.com and was able to trade in the digital PC version for the physical PS3 version.

Thanks again.
