So convention season is on the way and BioWare will be taking MAss Effect 3 to assorted Cons this year. In the past we have been at shows like PAX, San Diego Comic Con, Gamescom and others. While I don't have any Cons to confirm yet, I am looking for help with some planning for this years Convention season.

I am looking for 2 parts:
  • What do you like to see when you visit a booth AT a convention.
  • What do you like to see from a convention when you can't visit the convention.
Part 1
When you visit a booth at a Con, what do you want to see? Now before you all say it, please do not say hands on demo. We already know people like hands on demos and, if we can make one, we will have one, but that is a Dev team thing. What I am looking for are ideas that the Community team can do that you enjoy when visiting a booth. Swag? Meeting Devs? Decorations? Contests? If you have any fond memories of attending a convention and doing something cool while you were at a booth, I want to hear it.

Part 2
If you can't be at a convention (because, let's face it, not everyone can fly to Seattle or Cologne or wherever), what do you want to see about the convention? Now, again, before you all say it, please do not say video of the demo/gameplay or new trailer. Again, we know you all want this, but I am looking for things that the Community team can do to entertain those of you who cannot visit us at conventions. How can we entertain and inform you all who will not be able to actually stop by the booth. Blogging? Facebook and Twitter? Video broadcast? Giveaways? Again, if you can think of something we can do, I want to hear it.

So give me your ideas. I can't promise we'll use them, but I want to get a list of ideas together that we can start working on to make this year's BioWare convention season awesome both for fans at the shows and those who follow from home.

Thansk everyone. :)

Cool thread to wake up to! Unfortunately I'm still waking up so I'm going to simply second the 'twitter' reference for the time being. I'm still not all that huge into the site, but I think watching Casey Hudson go at it so much lately has brought me to the point in which I'll be logging in a lot more regularly. Convention updates through twitter now sound exciting and fresh to me.

I'd like new info about things you might want/can talk about, like James Vega and other new squadmates, or the improved power evolutions.

And a video would be appreciated, since I think Twitter will be packed regardless of what you guys will do. :P

For those who cannot go to the cons, I think facebook, blogging, and giveaways would be cool. Thanks for asking.

Twittering during the con would be awesome. It would also be great to learn more about the teams that make everything possible from the guys who set up the con, to the devs who make the game.

You could have a tv set up with a twitter feed from fans who can't be there, then you could respond to random questions, etc. It would be great if people who were at the booth could tweet their opinions back to those of us who won't be there.

Giveaways are always great too.

Give swag, everyone loves swag, and for the at home people show off some of the new characters and locations, maybe have a contest, video broadcast could be cool

Some more thoughts, this time focused on the first question.

Swag? Yes. Just about every fan of just about every fandom likes swag. And contests are always fun. Those of us who are going to be flying to a con will love these things; I know I always do. If possible, fill your area with some classic Mass Effect tunes -- that always gets people in the mood to plot a relay jump or two.

And try to convince Casey Hudson to move that Wrex statue with him holding ME1 we all saw in the Game Informer vids around the world with you. (I think it was a statue... whatever it was, it was very... striking.)

Part 2:

The on camera web casts of developers and writers being asked questions and giving answers is very good in my opinion. That has gone over well in the past. One improvement to that process might be to assemble questions from this community then have a poll as to which questions get asked perhaps. (At times people feel that the free for all question asking leads to questions that have been answered in the past.)

Blogging is good as well. I have enjoyed reading your and other blogs about the Convention experience. I don't do Twitter and very rarely visit my facebook site so those are not relevant to me but may be to others.

I loved the inflatable swords you had for DA:O; I picked one up at Austin GDC.  I know you had inflatable light sabers last year for SW:TOR, but they didn't look as nice.

In regards to part 2...I enjoy seeing the cosplayers at the conventions. If you guys have a contest for best ME themed costume I would love to see pics or video coverage of the different costumes. If you also have any celebrities VA's that are kind enough to participate in these conventions I would also like to see them as well. And some live Q&A time from the writers maybe, if they feel up to it.

This.

I also wouldn't mind hearing some minor details about the possibility of different editions (i.e. Standard edition, Collectors edition, etc.), if possible that is. Since nothing was said about ME2 until closer to the release date, then I know it's a long shot.

Also, maybe some details about the possibility of DLC for ME3. Not mentioning what possible DLC, just if there will be DLC, again, if possible.

For part 2; Twitter.

Thanks.

I wouldn't mind interviews with some of the voice actors. I'm not sure you guys at BW are ready to reveal who all is gonna be in it except for those already confirmed but it would be kind of cool to see some familiar faces there.

This.

I know it would be very hard to get the likes of Yvonne Strahovski and Martin Sheen, but the likes of Brandon Keener, Mark Meer, Jennifer Hale, Courtney Taylor, Keythe Farley etc would be a very very welcome surprise.

In either case, please please please... go light on major plot spoilers.

I'm good with whatever info you want to release at a Con as long as you are getting that info out to everyone that can't be there.

LiveVideo/Twitter updates from devs etc. would be great. Just generally keeping us up to date with new info announces at the cons. Hell, I stayed up for three days straight on the BSN when the first glimpse and destiny trailer were shown for DA2, just spinning ideas, infamous Nutella Menes and, ofc, who could forget 'Ponytail'?

The community is one of the best parts when all the new info comes out.

No plot spoilers.

And a demo of how weapon customization will work would be awesome.
