When you visit a booth at a Con, what do you want to see?

The best thing for me would be access to the developers and being able to ask about whatever you wanted, and get some insight into the creation process of an IP, game and game series like this.

Swag, photo opportunities and such would be nice too, but that wouldn't be the reason for me to attend.

If you can't be at a convention (because, let's face it, not everyone can fly to Seattle or Cologne or wherever), what do you want to see about the convention?

Blogs and videos of what was going on. A running thread on this forum would seem like a nice way to do that, no real reason to bring an external source like fb or twitter into it.

I'd also really like to see unfiltered, uncensored opinions from the people who actually were at the con. Not from excited employees ("When you push a button, something awesome has to happen!"), but from unaffiliated people - ideally mature, picky gamers (not the shooter kids) that are into deep and lengthy games but as stated have no affiliation to BioWare. Show them what you've got so far, and let them express their opinions, and publish them to the community. Don't censor them, or choose only the ones with positive comments, but let it all hang out. Risky, but honest.

At a convention:
-Swag. Anything I can take home. Buttons, posters, t-shirts, etc.
-Devs answering questions.
-Contests! Even if the prize is another t-shirt, haha.
-Photo opportunities. Posing with Hawke's staff from DA2 was really cool!

From home:
-Tweets. Let us know what we're missing!
-Contests/Giveaways! Let us at home have a chance to get our hands on the convention swag!

In general:
-Familiar faces. As a returning player, nothing gets me more excited for ME3 than returning characters on promotional material. Especially Jack, Garrus and Kaidan!

I defenitely want to see Kasumi xD
She's so awesome, I want gameplay and some non-spoiler information that is fun to know, like who's returning and stuff.
I would be completely awesome to see weapon and armor/squad armor customisation...
I would love to see James Vega and some new places in the Normandy SR2

For being at a con, my top two would have to be swag and chats with the devs.

For those of use who are at home, definitely the giveaways. Maybe even someone from the community team walking around with a camera and making a fun mashup video of some of the cool things that went down at the con. You know, get up close and personal (not THAT personal) with the Bioware guys and gals that went. Something somewhat informal. Remind us that you're all fun loving peeps like us.

I only ever been to one convention but its clear the booths the attract and ones that dont.

First is that you want to keep people interested. Yes hands on the demo and "swag" is nice, the latter gives some lasting memory as its something you take home with you and keep reminding you of the event and product.

Logistically I find people are always wanting to be where the crowds at. As something cool has to be happening to draw a crowd!! Then that crowd attracts a bigger crowd so you want to keep people entertained throughout the day and wanting to come back. Once people have got their "swag" and played the demo they clear off. Then they see something else awesome and ME is at the back of their minds again. People are fickle at conventions, fact. Just because there is so much to take in.

So you want people to remember your booth and want to come back. Try creating a schedule where you announce something of "significance" at a particular time, a contest to win a Big Prize. I know a lot of booths do this, but I was surprised by the amount that don't. Oh and of course Devs answering fan questions is a must. Having your own question answered is the biggest reward out there!

Now as for the peeps at home, we always get a little jealous we cant play hands on and cant win any awesome "swag" or ask any questions.

I know everyone at the convention will be really busy. But im sure someone in your office could spend the day on a dedicated twitter account for example and answer some fan questions. I know thats what Casey is doing presently, but of course hes being careful and picking a few. Someone who could make the fans worldwide feel more part of whats going on would be great by answering a lot of questions during the event.

Amen to that my brother. I don't care if she wears the Slave Leia bikini or Miranda's catsuit. As long as she's in any of those conventions, I'll be a happy camper. And I'll also try to attend every convention possible until early 2012 arrives. :)

If you're going the giveaway route...please consider your international fans! Even if I don't win anything...it would still be great for everyone. Not many devs go out of their way to provide swag for non American/Canadian territories.

I am in the category that can't reach a con so it would be nice to have a special topic with the news and info and videos, and also some giveaways and maybe a special newsletter to sign-up to receive updates or news.

Livestreams with developer q&as would be great - and let people vote up questions if possible.
Maybe have someone interviewer / moderator on the stream.

Part 1.

Definitely meeting devs, with ability to shake hands, get autograph, take pictures etc.  From my convention experience this is more memorable than everything else. Calendars, buttons and booklets get lost, posters fade and get thrown away, but pictures with people you've met (even if those are crappy blurry cellphone pictures) will bring good memories for years to come.

Booth decorations are great from the same purpose. Some goofy pictures with cutouts/statues/banners of the characters are priceless.

Part 2.

Video broadcast would be perfect. If it is not possible, then twitter, forum updates etc., so every bit of new info released at conventions is available for those who cannot attend cons. Also, if you show some new pictures at booth/presentation, please post those pictures online too. Photos of pictures usually look awful.

If you decide to do some contests/giveaways, please make it available for international fans.

Content-wise I would love to see:

/Pictures of Vega and returning characters. We have already seen new designs of Garrus, Ashley, Kaidan and Anderson, but not of others. I don't think that designs alone are spoilers. Some new locations that were not shown in magazines would be nice too.

/Info on squad formation. We already know that aside of core squad we will have optional squaddies, so I'd love to know, how many of them and if there's a choice in filling the slots. I mean, if you don't want to take character A, can you pick character B instead or you'll just have one less character on the team?

Also, I would love to know how interaction will be handled with characters that are not on your squad anymore. No need for story details, just say how much dialog and interaction is to be expected. Please, don't be coy with 'they will be somewhere in the game', that is not satisfactory answer. Be more certain.

My perfect answer would be 'as much as squad-members', but whatever you decide, I want to know what to expect exactly. Even if I don't like the answer, I will have several months to get over it. It's better than unpleasant surprise in game, when you have extended conversation and party banter with character you don't like (unfortunately for me, I'm happy only about one confirmed squad member), but your favorites are reduced to one dialog or 2-minute cameos.

Aside from that I'm interested in things you asked not to say.:innocent:

I would love to meet the voice actors and ask them how they prepared for the roles, give them high-fives, get them to sign my ME2 game, etc.

Part 1:

Defiantly swag, that's a huge plus. Big cool locking character posters and art too. Maybe like a big Shepherd statue.

Part 2:

Swag giveaways! It sucks not being able to go to all these cons and seeing all the cool shirts, etc. that people get for going.

I'm open to any kind of coverage, but would prefer to see it all be available on Bioware's social site, the Bioware blog, and similar sources. Make the information accessible to everyone, and don't prioritize facebook and twitter, since not everyone uses them.

So convention season is on the way and BioWare will be taking MAss Effect 3 to assorted Cons this year. In the past we have been at shows like PAX, San Diego Comic Con, Gamescom and others. While I don't have any Cons to confirm yet, I am looking for help with some planning for this years Convention season.

I am looking for 2 parts:

  • What do you like to see when you visit a booth AT a convention.
  • What do you like to see from a convention when you can't visit the convention.
Part 1
When you visit a booth at a Con, what do you want to see? Now before you all say it, please do not say hands on demo. We already know people like hands on demos and, if we can make one, we will have one, but that is a Dev team thing. What I am looking for are ideas that the Community team can do that you enjoy when visiting a booth. Swag? Meeting Devs? Decorations? Contests? If you have any fond memories of attending a convention and doing something cool while you were at a booth, I want to hear it.

Part 2
If you can't be at a convention (because, let's face it, not everyone can fly to Seattle or Cologne or wherever), what do you want to see about the convention? Now, again, before you all say it, please do not say video of the demo/gameplay or new trailer. Again, we know you all want this, but I am looking for things that the Community team can do to entertain those of you who cannot visit us at conventions. How can we entertain and inform you all who will not be able to actually stop by the booth. Blogging? Facebook and Twitter? Video broadcast? Giveaways? Again, if you can think of something we can do, I want to hear it.

So give me your ideas. I can't promise we'll use them, but I want to get a list of ideas together that we can start working on to make this year's BioWare convention season awesome both for fans at the shows and those who follow from home.

Thansk everyone. :)
