Hackers have been gaining access to peoples PSN Account through the PSN Mass Password resets.  Turns out the only info they needed was the Email used for your PSN account and your birth date which was taken by the  orginal hack from a month ago

Damn, I don't think they will be able to recover from the damage to their brand from this PR fiasco.

They will probably end up having to offer deep discounts on what is already a relatively low margin product for them. I would not buy Sony stock right now.

The article says that Sony claims it was a URL error and not a new hack.

Buy low, sell high.  I'm sure their stock is dropping after all this.  That's the time to buy it.  They aren't going to disappear.  They are going to be bigger than ever when the next generation of consoles hits.

Even if they don't Sony has a number of other divisions that could turn it around. So it might be a good idea, just a long run one. Its like buying stock in Aviation Firms that also do side military work. Such as Lockheed, and Boing. Day to day, its crap and never rises. But when a war happens, it flys. And there always is a war.

Also not surprised, and given recent events I think I'll start a betting poll on when the plug gets pulled on the net, or tighter controls are enforced.

I imagine it's probably more likely to drop later in the year around the time when Sony announces some kind of costly measure to rebuild their brand, or if they announce that they won't make their quarterly earnings forecast.

most consumer electronics are purchased during the holiday shopping season, maybe the US consumer attention span is so short that everyone will have forgotten by that time..

It's fallen about 10% over the past month. 25% over about the past 5 months.

Seriously?

Sony has lost 20% of its market cap since Jan 1!

The total value of the company has dropped from 36 billion Jan 1 to 28 billion as of today.

IMO the harm done to their brand will likely impact sales of other Sony products, not only PS3 sales.
