Password resets are insecure? When did that happen? Surely the industry is much better at security engineering than the experts - e.g. Bruce Schneier in 2005, Ross Anderson (University of Cambridge) in 2009! After all CSS, WEP et al worked brilliantly!
Edit: Seriously, this is not rocket science. But look at online banking websites - HSBC happily sends your ID unencrypted and uses a 3 digit numerical pin and your date of birth; A&L uses silly "secret images" that are trivially vulnerable to man in the middle attacks; the rest quite happily restrict themselves to for only 3 letters of your password, breaking any protection hashes might have provided in case the database is compromised as well as reducing the effective password length to 3 characters. And now there's 3DS (Secure Code and Verified by Visa) - see signature. </rant>
Personally I think that this is more likely to be the result of Sony taking legal action against PS3 hackers than their competitors. Sony probably didn't make friends with the hacker (original, jargon file sense, not to be confused with crackers who are colloquially referred to as hackers) community when they decided to disable the alternate OS feature, rendering the devices useless. The legality of that action is disputed

UK trading standards:
The law gives you certain statutory rights, including that the goods are of satisfactory quality, as described and fit for their purpose.

This stuff is turning into a combination of annoying and boring. These hackers should do something usefull like go outside and get some fresh air instead of chasing headlines in the press so they can wack off over themselves.

I have X Box Live (also a PC Gamer). I'm completely satisfied with my service.
Playstation Network is free!
Yeah....its....free, I guess.

Agreed. I believe I pay for quality with Microsoft, and I recieve the best online experience and service for it.
I have a PS3 as well, but I rarely play it. I do all my gaming on my 360, the PS3 is for Bluray, older games (FFVIII) and the occasional console exclusive title.

Excuse me while I find some paper to angrily throw into the air.
Lax security, or angry hackers? Will we ever really know?

Still no PSN store. I just finished two games that I haven't been able to get my free downloads or patches. Well, at least they weren't like DAII were you have to get register on line to play.

Agreed.
For the 1st time since Sony introduced the PS line, I really don't want one...so I can thank the Hackers for taking that monkey off my back!

Wow maybe Sony should just hire contract killers. I mean it worked out well for France when they blew up the Rainbow Warrior.
And it would make for a great TV Movie >>
