uhh really? are you serious? so you can get +100% attack speed? I thought it just added to the duration/was really weird?

Well that sucks...I could have got way faster speeds for almost everything. :/
Might try it out on that dragon again (just to beat Arelex's 28secs) haha

anyway, in other news I've knocked the ARW down to 48secs, i've pretty much got a really consistent method now. I got either 51, 50 or 49 for the last 10 or so... and yes, i've tried it that many times. :/

I'll have one more go then give up for now.. it's already the fastest time we know of? :)

bleh, no cigar. Ran out of memory on my camera.. coincidence or destiny? haha
I'll upload it a bit later - just about to have dinner

You know, when you say things like that, it just makes me want to s**t in your Cheerios.

Also, Haste stacks. Jack Nader is telling the truth.

which part? the "it's already the fastest time we know of?" or the "coincidence or destiny?"

That was the intention behind the first but I just realised the second would sound really douche-y to someone who hadn't watched dark angel before and got the quote... oh well. haha

Anyhow, i'll try out multiple hastes on the dragon. Might mean I can't get elemental mastery on bethany though.. :?

Have you got any spirit apparel/armor on AFK?

umm not really no. I think might have had a +5% spirit damage amulet..
I didn't bother to optimise my gear that much because I'm not using the speed run playthrough for my main game - as in, I'm been really stingy trying to get all my crit-gear early on.

Anyway, here's the 48sec fight:

I sorta n00bed up a bit (didn't fully utilise the hex of vulnerability) which may have allowed me to go a little faster, but this was the general strategy I used and it consistently gets ~50secs.
I think if you do a robe wearing elemental warrior you can get even faster - I just hate wearing robes..and come on, if i'm not going to wear robes for my mage it's doubtful that I'd wear robes for my warrior haha

I couldn't work out a reliable method of killing the Ancient Rock Wraith during the first cooldown phase with a DW rogue.  Probably 9 in 10 attempts ends up in just missing out on killing him.  I think it is probably due to random companion crits, etc.  Typically the party needs to do about 2000 more damage.

I tested the same fight with a sword and shield warrior.  It can be easily killed during the first cooldown phase with a total time of 40 - 45 seconds.  The spirit dlc axe does very well in this fight.  For all other situations the axe performs poorly due to it's added magic resistance cancelling out haste.

On another note here are two fights both vs the deep roads dragon.  One is completed as a warrior, the other as a dw rogue.

S&S warrior

DW Rouge

*The dagger I am using for the rogue is the physical DLC dagger reskinned using TNT's Model (which is also the same model that finesse uses)

Arelex, could you please chuck these in the main post when you get a chance, thx :)

Heh, good job on making me and Arelex look like old grannies.

I accidentally fell asleep so still haven't got around to my second more optimised run at the dragons etc. I don't think i'll be possible to beat your time at level 12 though - I can't get embellishment (significantly increase Varric's dmg) or fervour for a new tactic...but I don't think anyone is going to ever beat ~15seconds anyway. haha

I'm thinking that desdemona's will be the better choice and have been shopping for nature gear. It has the advantage of not reducing haste and two cold rune slots. I don't think poison gets increased by +%nature though does it?

Hopefully I'll be able to get my speed down to sub-30.
I might also have another go at the ARW. Thought up some new ideas.

Added the new videos to the OP, along with the try I took at speed-running the ARW. I'm sure you can do it faster, but I can't be assed to sit there waiting for it to happen, as I detest SnS.

You guys really are beating up on that poor dragon... leave it alone.

Also, you kinda smashed the record from that other thread of 31 seconds

LOL I just realised that when I had respecced anders I had forgotten to re-equip his staff. I was wondering why I was struggling to get around a minute. I think I've come up with a pretty fun ARW strategy - but it's not much faster.

Using spirit gear (not that optimised because I'm too lazy to shop for long) my best was ~46seconds. And I can't seem to get any lower (which completely I blame on anders been retarded and not levelling up like everybody else) so I concede..for now. Also, I can't quite manage to get myself as injured as you do in that video. The ARW obviously just hates you that much more. haha

bleh.. I'll just go beat both your varnell fights to feel better about myself :P

I did try telling you that your party wasn't optimized.

Well, I think I must have mentioned that all these deeproads speed-runs are using a temporary save/playthrough (so I can't be bothered spending too long optimising it).

My goal for my S&S build is to make it into a crit-machine, firstly because it's what I do, and secondly because I want to have a build that's different from the everyday elemental setup.

I'm trying to reach this earlier on by not spending any money/been even more stingy than usual.
This involves only using ~1 maker's sigh for hawke/companions (I used only one until act 2) and skipping gifts and only getting companion armours for my chosen party. It seems to be working though as I managed to get the puzzle ring of the black fox from the very start of act 2.
This meant I could safely leave Varric's cunning at 30 for the rest of the game and focus on dex.

So basically I'm only going to bother to spend lots of effort (calculations etc) to optimise my actual party i'm using, and otherwise I'm just relying on general principles etc. to get decent times for my speedruns e.g. getting poisons, respeccing to completely glassy builds (no willpower or con).

But yeah, that dual hastes is amazing! Thanks for telling me about it. I think I read somewhere that it didn't stack so never tried it out for myself :(

so in other words, you're shooting yourself in the foot and wondering why it hurts?

I don't wonder why it hurts!

Once I have my build sorted (crit-gear and bravery) I should be able to speed-run things with my actual build which will be so much more satisfying than having to respec etc. That's why I'm looking forward to the Varnell fight - I'm going to try and get as high a level as I can before doing it, which should hopefully allow me to reach the act2 version of my crit-build.

If it works as I think it should, it'll be beautiful. I'll explain the concept once I've tested it out a bit more :)

awwww how nice of you. ^_^
I suppose it would somewhat cancel out all the name-calling from Arelex haha.

Though you probably should ready that hug for Arelex in the event I utterly destroy his time.
Which is totally going to happen!

Better not. Judging by your speedruns this hug would outright annihilate him from the timeline.

With any ring or item that give a bonus to lockpicking(its 50 percent),only 27 cunning is necessary to open all lockers.Did it with isabella(leave her cunning at 27 with that dagger from act 2) and she could open all master chests.

really? I thought it only increased it by one level.
cool, if I ever decide to spend the money on a maker's sigh I'll get him an extra 3 dex! :)

i think leaving it at 30 is pretty good for now anyway, as I only have a improved lockpicking item (no improved disarm trap property yet). Not sure if such an item even exists so may have to either miss out on some traps or respec one of my rogues into an unlocking machine (take it along just to disarm things for the extra experience)

This is probably my least favourite fight due entirely to the ridiculous hitboxes on the vateral.
Here it is anyway.

He sure is. Firestorm wasn't cast to kill him but rather to soften up all the spiders which spawn around him :)
