Nah.. what I had is most effficient. Spiders have very large hitboxes and, as such, do not cluster up easily. Second of all, when they do cluster up, it is most likely going to be on my ranged party members who then end up dumping firestorm right ontop of themselves. The effect I wanted was for the firestorm to instantly damage the spiders the moment they spawned. If the vateral's health can be dropped fast enough the firestorm actually damages both groups of spiders. Regardless, the tactic served it's purpose.

Nice! That was a lot faster than anything I did. Didn't think to speed run it - ended up just hacking it apart autoattack by autoattack. Spirit immunity does help a lot in that regards.

Btw, what's your fastest brekker fight? It can't be that mage video of yours can it?
I'll probably do the varnell later today - and if I'm feeling in the demon hunting mood maybe hunt down Xebenkeck. The moment of truth..eek!

18 seconds "was" my fastest brekker fight. I am going to beat that tho with this current playthrough.

oh. so ~30seconds (unoptimised) is nothing to brag about then.
I think I was mainly limited by the delays in respawning and my companions been stupid (all three of them couldn't handle one elite assassin)

Oh well, we'll see how it goes for varnell :)

Love watching these Nightmare rush videos. It would be a shame if a patch came out and changed game balance and completely invalidated them though. :whistle:

p.s. it's faster - and unoptimised (e.g. no poisons etc)

Ah okay. Same here sort of. Was trying out my new setup as a sort of mini-test to see if it would be effective against varnell as I figured that no-one would want to see a dissent speedrun.

I couldn't get my walking bomb tactics to work properly though. Either it mysteriously disappeared just as I landed the killing blow or it would explode and all the other templars would already be out of the blast radius. I'm not sure how you managed to get all the templars to leave your companions and charge at your rogue when my warrior can't seem to draw enough threat.. I suppose it draws back to the way enemies just hate you that much. haha

Anyhow, I'll upload it when I get home. Seems like I forgot to put the audio on my laptop (yes, i record them separately which is a pain). Also, my internet connection is been bulls*** at the moment.
I only clocked ~23seconds, but then again, yours seems to be ~24-25seconds? I had the large advantage of spirit weapons/been awesome though

Hmm. Unfortunately I forgot to leave a save for the dissent fight so I'm out of the competition after this:

But that goad idea is good, thanks. I hadn't really considered getting enemies to crowd around the person triggering the bomb as I'm used to a force mage/ranged party. Might try that out


Update: Some exciting news. I'm consistently beating a minute on the Varnell run. I was just using a stopwatch (so no video yet) however, and I think I can improve on it - might be even able to beat Jack-Naders! :)

heh, on my second video'd run I got ~46 seconds. This is including sebastian been a douche and stunning me. I'll try cut it down some more but dinner calls. But looks like Jack-Nader has a new time to beat! :lol:

Here you go: Varnell

I hit a cap at 45seconds, using the most optimal method I discovered I got 45seconds five times in a row. Very lame. I could potentially have gone faster because I would always screw up one part - in this vid I did a pretty solid start (has a pretty nice 18000+ which is why I chose it) but I didn't do so great for the rest. Because for the spawns it's all about the scatters and assaults - If it's aimed and timed right (hard to do given the clunky targeting) you can kill the whole group in ~2seconds.

But yeah, whenever I get perfect scatters I mess up somewhere else. Quite frustrating. haha

Sheesh, that's amazing. That's what? 14seconds?

Anyway what type are those angry mob? I would have thought they would be kirkwall type so spirit would be better than nature? Unless you're referring to putting on +%nature gear, which I'm not doing for my main run- that's reserved for crit-gear ;)

And that run was unoptimised. I am starting to cbf getting myself decked out in poisons etc. when I'm too stingy to carry on after that. Using unoptimised runs allows me to carry on without all that pointless back-tracking..
I didn't even have two fire staves (they are weak to fire right?)

I potentially could use a save from before if you think it really helps/if you or Arelex beats 45secs

No.. they are weak to nature. Use desdaemon or whatever its called. If your not willing to do that then atleast give your mages nature staves!

I am almost ready for the Varnell fight.  Just need some more XP to hit lvl 18 and then i'll go gear up.  Should be interesting tho given that rogue's also have access to a nature based dagger.  We'll get to see a "fair" comparrison for a change.

Really? nature?! Okay, done- thanks for the heads up. I'll try it now!

haha as if it was ever fair - rogues have all the advantages for a speed run - crazy dps and spike damage, brittle CCCs...the only way i can keep up is getting my character half killed and relying on my advantage of elemental weapons/weaknesses and aoe damage.
I really need to figure out my walking bomb strategy as well.. that could save a little bit of time in the beginning.

That's not the point. Fair is using equal weapons for the task. Using spirit weapons vs templars when rogues have access to physical damage weapons only is not a fair comparison of the classes.

The deep roads dragon fights that I posted for both warrior and rogue were a fair comparison of the classes.  As you can see there really isn't much time difference between them.  The best rogue time I've achieved for that fight is 12 seconds and 15 seconds for the warrior.

Anyway, your going to have to start using poisons, etc and getting the best gear for the occasion if you wish to compete in speed runs. All my speed runs, excluding the varnell fight, have been optimized within the confines of the game.
