I don't give my 'allegiance' to any video game company. But i'm enjoying The Witcher 2 more than I enjoyed DA2 up to this point. People say the characters are written poorly, but it isn't true. Apart from the subtleties that are lost in the translation, the characters aren't meant to be very likable, aside from maybe Zoltan. They're meant to be cold, amoral, selfish, and bitter. The world the Witcher is set in is the very definition of 'Dark Fantasy', and it shows in the characters as well as the plot.

 How the hell is someone expected to play and enjoy a game when it's not expected or encouraged for you to enjoy and relate to the characters?

I really think all the CD Projekt love would be better off at the CD Projekt forums... oh wait.

Why does it have to be a choice? Can one not play and enjoy DA2 and Witcher 2 for completely different reasons?

No you must choose a developer and forsake and bash the other. There is no room for both Bioware and CDProjekt. This is WAR and Bioware will fall, just like Origin.

Hmm that makes alot of sense on why some on here like it so much. Honestly if they for the most are dicks I doubt I could stand playing it long.

You've either played very few games, or you have a very wide opinion about your personality if you only play games in which you can relate to the characters. As for 'enjoying' them, I can still very easily like how a character is written without loving the character (see Meredith or the Arishok for a DA2 reference).

Implying that the only way to play through The Witcher 2 is by being a douche.

They're definitely going after Bioware fans. The things they said leading up to the release, the free DLC, etc.

But as for the Witcher 2, it reminds me of Origins in a way. It comes off as a game they put their heart and soul into to try and make it a great game for the players. Paid attention to every detail, and made every inch of it try to bring you into its world.

Yahtzee said it best. There are two types of games.

1) Those that the devs thought would be a lovely game for everyone to play.
2) Those that the devs thought would be a lovely game to add to their golden money palace.

Origins and TW2 go into the first, DA2 into the second.

But I'm not ditching one company for another.  I'm still looking forward to ME3, like some of the stuff I heard so far.

If someone handed me a landmine the last thing I'd do is put it on the ground and jump on it.

Might be worth dropping this metaphor, actually, it's destined for only bad things..

If the game 'encourages' you to do anything, it's to be neutral. Witchers are the epitome of 'True Neutral', they are meant to do their job and not meddle in the affairs of the common people or politics. Geralt is the exception to this as he has numerous ties with people that he shouldn't, still he is a Witcher and old habits die hard. The game more or less benefits a neutral point of view over any of the other two, trying to do the right thing will set you at odds with the people who can do the most to help you advance in life and health, and ignoring the common folk makes it difficult to function and pick up contracts.

So no, I don't think it encourages people to be play 'evil' just because they don't give you the option to be a paragon of humanity.

Sorry, but if a game is filled with a**hole characters just to show you how grimdark the world is without offering at least a few major characters to counter that by being fairly nice human beings then it is really hard to relate to those characters. Take Kratos for example, great character, I like him, but due to him being a giant phallus 95% of the time I find it a lot harder to connect to him on a deeper level than, say, Merrill. True, you can enjoy characters that aren't relatable, but not nearly as much as those that are.

LOL The hell

And pft, I was going to plant it on the road. knock over the UPS truck or an armored car, rob it of its contents, which in the former is hopefully more mines, and in the later more money for more mines.

Your opinion is not fact, it's important to keep that in mind. It's more difficult for some than it is for others.

I never said every single person in the game is an '****', you can be a bitter douche and still be a fairly decent person. Their personalities are cold because the world they are set in is meant to be horrid, if you don't like a 'horrid world' then that is your issue, don't read or play anything that is classified as dark fantasy. Because that is all it is.

Also implying that any of the characters in either of The Withcer games are as shallow and transparent as the Kratos from God of War is hilariously idiotic. Kratos isn't meant to be a deep characters, he is meant to be an icon for the blood and gore in the games which he 'stars' in. He is more of a fitting avatar than he is a character.

Being an ***hole is not being evil. Being an ***hole is being extremely selfish to the point of potentially alienating others. Evil people can certainly be ***holes, but it doesn't require someone to be evil. I've not played it myself, but the reviews I've read have repeatedly stated how difficult it is to actually be selfless in the game. That certainly sounds like it is encouraging ***holery.
