In short, the Steam Support is utterly USELESS.

14 days ago I bought MassEffect 1 and MassEffect 2 on steam.
I then registered MassEffect 2 on the bioware account page (and bought some DLC's).

Then I tried registering Mass Effect 1, and received this error:
"Error Code 102: Unable to verify CD Key as entered, please check key and try again."

Then I asked EA Support regarding the CD-Key, and they said that the Key I received from Steam is not in their database - hence INVALID. I have to ask Steam for a valid Key. :S

So I went to steam support, created a ticked where I described the problem, and that I allready talked with EA Support and they said Steam has to give me a new, valid key.....
Their first response was to get in contact with EA Support!?!?!?!

So since more than ONE WEEK i am now trying to get them to understand the problem.
But those "experts" tell me stuff like "go to your mass effect install dir and start vcredist_x86.exe and DXSETUP.EXE"
They link me to pages about games not starting up, and rendering errors.....

Utterly useless. So I gave up now. :(

Maybe someone from bioware reading this? :)

A search of this forum will let you know you are not alone in this, just about everyone who has purchased it from Steam is encountering this error.

Official support is done by EA, not Bioware, so they wont be able to do anything, even if they did read this forum.
If you cant get any response from EA or Steam in regards to this, then all I can suggest is take it up with your local consumer rights organisation.

In the same boat.

EA did give me a special CD Key that I could use the download the DLC, but nothing to register the game yet. EA said finally to contact STEAM. I did and STEAM keeps saying that support is handled through a third person and sent me a link to their support page that has links to EA support. REALLY! I won't bother telling you what my response to them for that was.

The ball is in both teams court now. Honestly this was my first STEAM purchase and if they don't fix this it will be my last.

Got a first reply from EA - they were sorry for reposing so late, but there are MANY tickets regaring this issue submitted these days. Mistlikely because of that ME1+ME2 deal they had goinig on Steam. :D

Thats because the old furms were hacked, user account were details stolen, and thus were taken down by EA/Bioware. If you want to register the key in order to get the BDtS DLC, then all you can do is go to EA support and hope you dont get a complete muppet of a support rep. Some will help, other will just go "derp, lolwot?"

Got lucky with my first EA rep. She knew what I was trying to do before I had finished explaining it and immediately provided me with a DLC key. Now... I just have to figure out how to get my Win7 x64 installer to stop auto-cancelling. Heh.

You will need to run it as admin to give it the rights to write to the disk.
