Why all people that predict the end of the world don't predict also WHICH WORLD's gonna end?

How silly!

Everyone knows it happens December 21st 2012! Not May 21st 2011!

I exult in the possibility of unlocking the achievement of not getting laid on that day. 99% chance of the achievement, 1% chance of not getting my achievos!

No one will truly know judgment day until it actually happens. Attempting to predict it is,

well,

a judgmental error.

Preacher? Many Christians say they know when the world is going to end or that they've predicted it but if Jesus Christ himself didn't know when the end would come (he claimed only God knew), then why would some petty balding men with pot bellies and ties know? These predictions are always fake and woe be to the idiot who spent his life savings for doom's day posters.

If The Christ didn't know the day, year or hour when the world would end. Then we can't know either and that means the 2012 Mayonnaise spaghetti bolognese (Yummy!) prophecy is fake too just like all end of the world predictions that are predicted by humans.

I believe the world will end one day due to God's judgement. It's certain and if you're atheist, you should believe that the world will end also, Suns do die but I think this civilization will be dead before then because of the reason I stated.

What happened to the last 3,000+ times the world was supposed to end?

Seriously, I'm just shocked that CNN is even making this front-page news. All this preacher wants is attention, and the news media is playing right into it.

Hey, at least the world will end before the Premier League trophy is formally presented to Manchester United. It shall therefore remain in Chelsea's possession for all of eternity!

I often wonder what does someone gain by making these predictions.  It's not like if their right they can gloat about it.  I watched a show on the discovery channel or was it the history channel...  Anyway, they showed a mock scenario of the rapture.  Cities got hammered.  Especially, the freeways, airplanes, power, food supplies ect.  So after the rapture you get this period of hell on earth.  Basically, it's whoever is left has to fight it out and then the antichrist rises.  Culminating in a big fight in the middle east between the antichrist and the remaining good people.  Fun times.

*Interesting point- many historians believe the apocalypse stuff in the bible was done as a representation of the romans persecuting the christians.  I kind of believe that.  The bible is a book just like any other.  It just happens to have many readers.  Far many than mine.  Anyway, people who write books have them affected by what is going on around them.  So all this apocalypse stuff could be just the pissed off christians at the time venting some anger at the Romans.  Kind of like what I do after I drink a bottle of tequilla and post on message boards around the internet.  Yikes...  If all that stuff panned out I'd be on like my fourth marriage.  That's some real scary stuff right thereImage IPB

To be honest, this preacher just seems like a guy who used this apocalyspe crap to brainwash and get money from people.  Which is the worst use of religion.  People put their faith in religion only to get swindled by idiots like this guy.  Image IPB

Eh, the world is going to end when it's going to end. Only God knows for sure. Nothing you can do about it anyway.

I'm just quoting the end here because the rest of the Post is just as ridiculous...
I'm an Agnostic, not an Atheist because I simply don't have the hubris to believe I "know" one way or the other and I certainly don't believe some Book written by other Humans could even begin to capture the intentions or even the smallest part of the idea of a "God"

Ermmm. Science has proven suns die. One way or the other. This world is ending. If the sun expands, we get burnt. If the sun shrinks and turns into a white dwarf, we freeze to death.

Yes. The Bible is written by humans. No one said otherwise but how can you say that it doesn't contain the words of God?

The Bible certainly knew about a round floating earth and expanding universe thousands of years before science. Job 26:7 and Isaiah 40:22

Think of it what you will. I doubt you will convert. I'm not here to argue, I'm just posting support for my claim.

Ah well religion of all sort aside, you have Climate issues, NBCW. Giant hunks of Rocks floating around, unpredictable geological events, time in general, Supernova's, Gama ray bursts, even the off chance a chunk of Antimatter could run into the Earth, a new plauge, among millions of others, pretty much dictate hard times will, not if, but will hit us at some point so long as we stay on this one rock. Even if we spread thats no sure shot that humanity won't end at some point.

Be it next week, be it One Million Years.

you can blame the puritans for coming up with the rapture...

Err actully all religions have end of world events. In fact acording to the Hindu's it already has. 5 times. Ah well I think one problem with "End of the World" settings is the fact, alot of people picture just total destruction. I think of it more as an ending to the previous status qou via suffering and hardships, etc. And such an event isn't so unlikely, and has happend on a smaller scale pratically forever. On a large scale or some of the Stuff you see on TV, Doubtful. Well short of a giant Sapce Rock giving us the Glasgow kiss.  Not enough Nukes in the World For a Fallout or Water World situation, though in the event of a global exchange I would avoid major Cities for at least 5 years.  Most bombs are now designed for an air burst effect, or deep penitration to limit fallout and a shorter radioactivity life after being used.

rapture isn't really an "end of the world" scenario nor is it accepted throughout all of christianity

the current view of rapture started with the puritans and mostly exists with protestant denominations of christianity

there have been predictions of rapture for hundreds of years since the idea first came into being (with some theologians misinterpreting religious texts to support the theory), i remember hearing about a large group of farmers who were duped into selling all of their farms and belongings thinking the rapture was going to happen in the late 1800's

over 100 years later and people still think it's going to happen every and any day of every and any year
