Two Shepards would destroy the universe. The Reapers would be the least of our worries.

Personally, I don't want ANY Shepard in the trailers or posters or covers. Because I think both defaults are butt-ugly (unlike the default Hawkes for DA2, I liked those).

Also...default, canon, does it really matter? Default Male Shep is what they sell the game with....he is THE Shepard. I don't like his face one bit and I'd wish he had a better haircut, but whatever, if we ever see Shepard in a movie, cartoon, anything, THAT is what he will look like. I would prefer otherwise, but what are we gonna do....

But seriously, for the game I'd prefer them to only advertise it with the crew. I know it's not gonna happen, but damn it, I hate the Mass Effect 2 cover because it feels so random to me...I don't like Miranda all that much, Thane seems...fairly unimportant in the game given how he barely appears in his dossier mission and has a rather short loyalty mission and that leaves the giant Shepard that is just "some guy that I will never see in my game".

This was a big argument during the advertising for Mass Effect 2... I believe the official reason given was that while there is no true "cannon" and the book and comic writers do their best to tip-toe around these situations, that the default Shepard is Biowares "Shepard", just like mine is mine and yours is yours...

An excuse that won't make anyone happy, but it does have some truth to it.

Who cares? It's just an advertisement. Femshep is in the game and just as important as male shep. Stop whining.

As much as I'd love for this to happen, I'm fairly convinced it won't.

Then again, I was also convinced that Bio wasn't going to implement same-sex stuff in ME3, so who knows, they might surprise us. :o

This.  I doubt it will happen, but I hope it does.  :)

I actually didn't bother buying either me1 or 2 because I thought it was just another army scifi shoot 'em up game. Some guy where I buy my games recommended it and I was like.. ehh....

I turned on the game, said "hunh... I can be a chick in this game... nice."

And I've been totally hooked every since. To the point where I have a STACK of other games waiting to be played, plus another console with games that I've had for months and have yet to touch any of them.

What can I say, I'm gay for FemShep.

While I don't think BioWare will ever bother to actively advertise her, I still think we should get screenshots of her. They take no effort to get, and will at least appeal to fans, even if not to the "target audience" that the trailers are aimed at.

A thought - if we get those class videos again, why not do 3 of the 6 with a FemShep?

But they are missing the oppurtunity to snare the people for whom the ability to play a female is a selling point.
I'm convinced that they are missing some people who would become interested in the game pureley because they can play a woman, I'm mainly talking about women players but some guys would probably be more interested as well.

I wasn't that interested in the game (ME1) until I found out that you could customize Shepard, I just thought it was a standard shooter with minimal rpg elements. The CC made me want to atleast try it, and now I love the series!

CC is a strong selling point for me, even if it's mono-gendered.

I understand that they want a iconic Shepard for marketing, but the fact that the CC and femShep is treated like a "dirty secret" confuses me.

There is, realistically, no way to put femshep as the 'Poster Shep'.
Sheploo is Mass Effect's marketing wh*re, and that will never be able to change.
He IS BioWare's Shepard - the face they paid for at that. The face that's become recognised as the 'Mass Effect' face thanks to how Mass Effect 1 & 2 were handled.

Greater recognition of femshep and highlighting that your Shep can be male/female and have their appearance tailored how you want (or close enough) seems practicable. Put femshep in a screenshot on the back cover of the game at the very least. Showing her off enough in demo/class vids would help too.

I can sign this. Years before I had a 360, people would talk about this upcoming BioWare game called Mass Effect. From looking around a little bit, it seemed like some shooter with this boring dude in it. The BioWare fan in me felt betrayed and I decided to stick with their more traditional games, or "proper games" as I saw it back then.

To say the least, the day I stumbled upon Mass Effect later was a very happy day and ME2 is now my favourite BioWare game, topping even BG2. Getting to know you didn't have to be that boring guy kinda warmed me up a lot. It's not only to do with gender in itself - I enjoy lots of games with male leads - it's how it shows you control who you are in the game. Gave me lots of hope that I had dismissed something great, and I felt like such an idiot for ignoring such a gem when I finally did play it =)

There's a saying that goes "and if I'm here, then there's others too" in Sweden. It applies here. There's no way I was confused and stupid all on my own, there were certainly others and there are still very many out there who haven't had their proper stumble-upon yet.

Oh Jesus, this is very rapidly beginning to look like the Wider Romance thread in sheep's clothing.

How about we just an an "N7" logo with some Reapers and a destroyed Earth in the backround. No characters, no Shepard, No one is offended!

I'm not going to talk about ideology here, but for mere practical reasons, at least we should be able to see Femshep in appearance pack / armor pack DLCs, just so we can see how it looks like on her before buying the pack.

Male, female, mix between male and female. Honestly, i couldn't care less.  Whatever Bioware decides is cool for me.

EDIT: Though with the apperance pack DLCs i think femshep should be represented.

Except there is no canon Shepard.

I know it won't happen, but it would be cool if she was given equal time in the surrounding media - or at least billing on the back of the box.

There is a canon Shepard.

The default Shepard is male, soldier, spacer. This is seen when creating your ME1 Shepard.

Default =/= cannon.

Actually it's not about "feminists rights" but about mentallity. The reason Sheploo is more bankable is because our societies and nearly everyone of us are "male chauvinists" (but even some female are like that). Not in a conscious way (They probably won't compell their wives at home with the kid xD) but when they see the hero of an epic space saga (by example) they see a man.
The problem with these marketing guys is that they are strengthening this conditionning.

Well with this said, I personnaly don't want femshep to be the bioware shep (even if I never played a male shep, despite me being a man) but they should still put more of her. John is a great bioware shep but he can't do everything (how do you realize you can play a female if you don't follow the ME3 news actively but just see some videos?). It's already been said but it's the important point for bioware and it would please us. And it doesn't deprive them of the overwhelming presence of male shep.
