Minimal Reload Challenge - Any Takers?

General: After returning to Beregost to sell the 'booty' we acquired in the Firewine Ruins we returned to Gullykin with two missions in mind. First, we were going to buy up all of Alvanhender's Potions of Healing, Elixirs of Health and a few Antidotes. Next we wanted to conduct a reconnaissance of the area around Gullykin just to make certain there were no 'nasties, lurking nearby ready to move in and harrass the Hobbit village when we moved out.
For the most part we spent our time mopping up groups of Kobolds/Kobold Commando's who evidently hadn't yet gotten word that their operations in Gullykin had been brought to a halt.
We also killed a two each of Dire Wolves and Worgs, and three skeletons.
Key Event: Will the assassin's never stop? When we were scouting the area southeast of Gullykin we stumbled on four assassins. Their leader boasted that the other Asassins we'd met were not REAL assassins and that we needed to remember that he, Molkar, would be our killer. The challenge had been issued and we answered.
Immy had a Fireball Scroll so before we got too close I had Imoen and Dy drop fireballs on him while Jaheira called lighting down on his head. The only thing that went wrong there was that Minsc, charging ahead as he does, was right in the middle too but his wounds did not kill him. An Elixir of Health and a short retrograde to quaff another and he was back in the fray.
The fireballs had killed one of the assassins instantly, badly wounded two others, and Molkar wasn't feeling too well either. I attacked Molkar and Minsc came a runnin' too while the others provided ranged and spell support - honestly I'm not even sure what they were doing back there but after the dual fireballs and the lightning from heaven I'd have been happy if the girls sat down to have tea while the men cleaned the dishes.
We killed 'mouthy Molkar' and his last two lackeys easily.
Treasure Acquired: (Legend: Sold (S); General Party Use (GPU); Stanley (St), Minsc (Mi), Khalid (Kh) etc; Spellbook (Sb): Potion(s) of Absorbtion (Dy), Heroism (Mi); Scroll(s) of Sleep (Dy), Color Spray (Im); Miscellaneous armor, weapons (S); >300GPs
Leader Notes: At the very beginning of the battle I heard Molkar or one the assassins mouthing an encantation so I immediately followed my protocol of quaffing a Potion of Magic Blocking. I'm now out and am going to have to visit Thalantyr and pay his absorbentent prices to get a couple before we venture out again. I cannot take the chance as the leader of this group of being incapacitated by a spell.

@Sapphire: Is there anyway we can add a note in the challenger update that differentiates between challengers doing BG/TotSC in it's entirety and those just going strainght from Candlekeep to killing Sarevok. I feel kinda dumb with 5 reloads but like I said most of them were out in the TotSC areas that are not directly connected to the main storyline.
Hmm, I'll have to remember to put a new category in the Challenger Updates. BG or TotSC. So when I next update the list, that will be added onto it.
Yuck, Molkar isn't one of those easy assassins, and be happy that it wasn't the amazon ladies. They don't play nice. Especially with SCS on, they actually do some decent backstab damage.
Update on Analethene.
Analethene went back to the FAI(Friendly Arm Inn.), and returned the belt, and the stuff from the spider house. (A/N: Yes, she cleared out the spider house.)

Analethene returned a note to a woman in Beregost.

On the way to Nashkel, Analethene came across some Flaming Fist, Hobgoblins, a Half-Orc, a crazy woman named Shar'teel, and a man from Waterdeep.

Once in Nashkel, Analethene, and her group were told to stay out of trouble, which she tried to until another assassin was awaiting her in the Nashkel Inn. However, the Assassin was killed quite easily.

Lastly, Analethene spoke to the mayor, and said she would investigate the mines.

Analethene - Cleric/Mage - 1/1
Imoen - Mage/Adventurer - 1/2
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 1/1
Khalid - Fighter/Mage/Thief - 1/1/1
Will Scarlet O'Hara - Bard - 2
Garrick - Bard - 2

I've always found the amazonians tough thanks to their poison. I've actually just killed both groups in my current no-reload run, and even with a squad of three L7-ish character (one L3->6, one L7 and one L5/5) I nearly had a death. I think Hard Times actually makes them easier by replacing one of their arrows with Fire Arrows, but I have a version of SCS' Improved Deployment installed which (because it relies on BG2 scripting and I'm running vanilla) dumps them right on top of your party. Still, I can't imagine doing them under full SCS, they're tough enough as it is.SapphireIce101 wrote...

General: After taking a breather in Beregost and travelling to High Hedge to get a replacement Potion of Magic Blocking we headed toward Ulcaster to examine the area around the school of magic that once stood there.
We combed the area thoroughly using Khalid Hidden in Shadows acting as our forward reconnaissance. As a result of the difficulty he had in the Firewine Ruins we purchased him three Potions of Perception to augment his ability the Hide in Shadows and Find and Remove Traps. He used one here but the results were not what we'd hoped although he did his job and did it well. With more experience he will get better.
Other than the fact that at times it looked like we were crashing a Chill Reunion we found but scattered bands of Kobolds/Kobold Commando's and skeletons. We probably killed 20 Orecai and another 12 or so Kobolds but aside from that we found little of interest in the dry river bed.
When we got up top to the outside ruins we encountered the Ghost of Ulcaster who did not threaten us in any way. He was lamenting the loss of his school and mentioned a tome that we might find in the rubble below. He seemed to intimate that it would bring hope that the school might be made new again if he could obtain it.
Key Event: As key events go, it left a little to be desired but we were attacked by the ghost of a dead warrior, Icharyd, who claimed to be the greatest warrior ever. Minsc killed him a second time. I helped a little.
The key thing here is that he had a enchanted +1 Flail. Along with Spiders Bane that gives Minsc an enchanted slashing weapon and an enchanted crushing weapon that he is at least proficient with each. So, on the off chance we meet something that is immune to slashing weapons, Minsc has a backup crushing weapon. In my case, my enchanted +1 Long Sword and +1 Morning Star give me the same combination and this provides Minsc and I flexibility of weapon choice up front.

Yep, them. I always found them very tough for a party capable of doing the mines (you can do the mines with a few L1-2s, after all, especiailly if you take a couple of bites out of it).Charlestonian Knight Templar wrote...
@Sapphire/Fred: When you talk about the 'Amazons' which are you referring to. The only ones that pop to my mind are Lamalha, Maneira, Telka and Zeela in the Valley of the Tombs. Stanley and party had a tough, tough battle with them a few weeks ago but managed to win by the 'hair of our chinny, chin, chins!
The SCS mod "Improved Deployment for Parties of Assassins", or something equally unwieldly-named makes that group and Molkar's group (from Gullykin) pop up in random areas after you start Ch 3, which can be quite deadly.

Dinus, LG human male paladin (who forgot to save after Aec or hunt Sarevok down, so thought I'd better wrap it up).
I swap some equipment and buy some more potions, then head into the thieves maze where PfE and DUHM takes care of two doom guards followed by two skeleton warriors. A lightning trap has injured me but I dodge the rebounds, rest and continue. Another lightning bolt (probably the same trap) forces a second rest. Three more traps are encountered at the other end of the maze so I rest again.
I leave Winski where he is, double up my fire rings and add the usual PfE DUHM. Rahvin wants to fight and I'm game. I start on Shaldrissa but Wudei is first to perish from arrows of detonation. I kill Shaldrissa, and then Gorf. I cast lay on hands then fell Rahvin and Carston. My buffs have gone but Haseo is no threat.
There is no sign of Tamoko so I rest and move to greet Sarevok. I consider uber-buffing for melee but instead opt for a bow with no buffs. Game on, and I retreat without shooting.
Tazok attacks me first, so I swap to shield and hammer and kill him.
Sarevok is de-buffed by my first arrow. Semaj with my second (although he maintains his protections, cheater). I run around a bit while Sarevok chases, plinking more arrows at Semaj. Angelo appears briefly and I fail to notice what spell he casts because I move out of his sight. After a few spells Semaj moves to the other side of the huge mosaic skull. I keep near to the temple entrance, meaning Semaj and Angelo are out of sight.
Arrows of biting are hitting Sarevok while I gulp potions (power, regeneration, speed). Three arrows hit in rapid succession as I gulp a potion of heroism (THACO increases by 1 so not a good idea). Five acid arrows are next, then four piercing and two more biting.
Sarevok is dead (as is my multiplayer session, the end of the final movie appears to hang in the same way as exiting the game).
I thought I'd give the war hammer a try too. Poor old Sarevok.
Protection from fire scroll, potion of invulnerability (saving throws are -3 to 0), frost giant strength, oil of speed, potion of power, PfE (armour class -15), DUHM. Attack again, this time joining them on the raised pedestal.
Semaj teleports away but I'm straight on him. He is dead before Sarevok and Tazok catch up. I attack Tazok, briefly glugging a potion of regeneration when Sarevok hits me. Tazok only needs another couple of hits then I streak back to Angelo who is webbed and in a stinking cloud.
I trade a few blows with Sarevok before moving onto the mosaic skull for the finale. I hit him a final time as a trap hits us both and he collapses at my feet.

If you want to see quick you should see Grond0 clock them up, I think he plays at double/quicker speed. There was also a no-reloader who took something like 2 years to complete a run, maybe he's still going in SOA/TOB.

As Gate says, you only have to kill them once. They are removed from Gullykin and the VotT by the mod (though you could encounter them there).Charlestonian Knight Templar wrote...

One somewhat annoying little idiosyncrosy (I don't know if that's actually the right word, but I like it) is that the mod requires a BG2 scripting function (all of SCS is TuTu-based, after all) to spawn in the enemies off-screen. I've been working through some of the SCS components and converting them to vanilla BG1 (since that's what I run - really need to get BG2) since most of them work OK or mostly OK with a bit of creativity, this one included. The drawback is that I had to spawn the assassins right on top of your character. This gives you very little chance for positioning, and can be pretty tough on mage types, especially with Molkar who's a tough meleer. On the other hand, they are vulnerable to AoEs like Hold Person, and if you are a Fighter yourself you can easily take out their spellcasters. It just makes things a little different. This is merely my own personal problem, however; everyone else uses the proper version.

General: The next stop was to descend into the ruins themselves and explore what was there to be found. Khalid once again scouted ahead, checking for traps.
He reported first that he’d come across an Ochre Jelly and we started out after it only to find it had followed Khalid. We killed it easily and then, upon investigating the room we’d found it in, found a Mustard Jelly too. We destroyed it easily.
From there we moved northwest in the tunnels and came across the body of an apparent fallen adventurer. We were able to get an enchanted dagger, a Potion of Genius and about 100GPs to use in avenging him.
Moving on, Khalid continued to scout ahead and report back often. Through his efforts and reports, we were easily able to prepare for and defeat some vicious Dire Wolves (aren’t they all?) and four Huge Spiders.
We found what we assume to be another adventurer’s body. Once again, this guy had some useful items that we used well in avenging his death here.
Key Event: As we left the last corpse Khalid spied a Dread Wolf and returned, per SOP, to let us know what was up ahead. I ordered our usual formation for this type scenario and we moved in for the kill which was easy enough.
I was consolidating the party and sorting through the treasure and ordered Khalid to check for traps just in case. As he moved to a position he thought allowed him the best coverage, he noticed a Vampiric Wolf in an adjoining chamber. He quickly moved over out of its sight and whispered the situation to me.
I had him slip back into Shadows and get to where he had a good shot with one of the arrows we’d just retrieved from the fallen adventurer. He was to take a shot and then fall back behind Minsc and I. He did.
Minsc and I stood forward ready to confront the beast as it moved into the room to chase Khalid. I put ‘the girls’ back to provide spell and ranged support when the Vampiric Wolf came into view.
But the wolf changed the plan by going around Minsc and I and heading straight for Khalid. When Khalid parried though, the wolf snapped at Dy and she was 'Held'. Same darn thing that happened to me weeks ago. Immy sounded ‘the alarm’ that a party member was Held and being attacked. At that point everyone knows to target the creature(s) attacking the Held party member.
These things happen so fast sometimes I don’t even know what happened. This is one of those times. I just know the party came through, Dy was safe, and the Vampiric Wolf was dead.
Turns out Khalid was firing his newly acquired arrows, Immy was casting every spell she could find in her memory, and Minsc, Jaheira and I were wailing away on him.
Near where Khalid had first seen the Vampiric Wolf we found a substantial treasure with several useful potions, more enchanted arrows and the Book, History of Light and Darkness. On exiting we gave the book to Ulcaster’s Ghost. He seemed relieved and ready to once again work toward his school of Magic. A good deed feels good to the ones who do it too.
Treasure Acquired: (Legend: Sold (S); General Party Use (GPU); Stanley (St), Minsc (Mi), Khalid (Kh) etc; Spellbook (Sb): Book (History of Light and Darkness); Enchanted Dagger +1 (S); Wand of Fire (Dy); Potion(s) of Mirrored Eyes (St), Genius (Dy) , Oil of Fiery Burning (Kh), Hill Giant Strength (Mi), Strength (Ja) Healing x3 (GPU), Absorption (Dy); Arrows of (piercing x3 (Kh), Biting x3 (Kh), Ice x10 (Kh); Miscellaneous arms, armor, gems; ~220Ps
Leader Notes: I detail above our party’s SOP when a party member is Held or otherwise incapacitated and being attacked. Whoever sees it first screams the party members name and “Held”! Everyone drops whatever they’re doing to get to the attacking man or beast and get them off the incapacitated party member by whatever means possible. In those situations all other orders cease and each member reaches down and brings their best to bear to rescue our endangered comrade.

General: We ventured into the Red Canyons south of High Hedge next. While there we compared skills with at least one cave bear, a few Orecai, maybe eight skeletons and a talking chicken. Yeah, you read it correctly.
Turned out that a semi-apprentice of Thalantyr got a little over-zealous with some items he "borrowed" from Thalantyr and turned himself into a chicken. Thankfully he was able to speak and detail his situation. We tried to use a Dispel Magic spell to no effect so, after we were done in the canyons we took him to Thalantyr who was none too pleased with his "apprentice" but showed that his bark wasn't as big as his bite. We gave him a skull we'd just taken from a skeleton outside and he was able to return, Melicamp to his human form. All's well that ends well but I'll bet Melicamp won't do anything like that again.
We did run into a 'big-mouthed' Orecai and two of his buddies who told us to surrender. I placated him for fun but refused when he said we needed to give him all of our gold. Zargal, by name, got upset and attacked when we refused him. That was that.
Key Event: We found the mad Cleric Bassilus we'd heard the Beregost Town Crier speak of and then, later, Kelddath at the Temple of the Morning - who’d, offered a large reward for the return of Bassilus' Holy Symbol. Khalid had been scouting ahead and returned to tell us of the presence of a man and several undead just ahead in what appeared like a druid grove.
Bassilus was obviously deranged but when I indicated I was not his father and that maybe we should go to Beregost he turned hostile along with five or six skeletons and a couple of Zombies that he'd been keeping company with.
I quaffed my Potion of Magic Shielding and headed for him with Minsc diving into the fray somewhere off my right shoulder. Khalid and 'the girls' were right behind us providing support. We beat him down with surprising ease and then destroyed his undead.
News of our success had reached Beregost almost before we did and we heard the Town Crier telling of our exploits. That felt good.

Bottom line assumption here is that when you PC is killed then the remainder of your NPCs elect to raise you. To play by the rules you can start where you died but you MUST later donate to the temple of your choosing the amount it would have cost your party to raise you. If you die again, you pay twice etc.
The remainder of the original Minimal Reload Challenge follows. CKT
Charlestonian Knight Templar wrote...
Here are my thoughts for a "Minimal Relaod Challege."
My thinking when reading the no-reload challenge is that it's fine if you just want to try to get thru w/o getting killed.
But since for every other NPC in the game, if they haven't been chunked, they can be raised why could you not "fantasize a bit" and apply that to the PC.
The bottom line here, like the No-Reload is that it is "self-policing."Common sense dictates. If you end up in one of those situations (and we've all been there) where suddenly for no reason half your party is dead, one or two are "held", and your PC dies while numerous monsters are pounding the two "held" NPCs then there's not much chance those two would rally to save the entire party.
My thoughts were that the challenge would have as it's basis that if you reload the assumption is that the surviving members of your party thought you worth raising (just as I assume you as the PC may have done for them previously a time or two).
So, if you are in a party where most of the party seems to be a good relationship amongst the group in the unfortunate event of your demise it would seem logical that they'd pay the going rate to have you raised as you would them. If killed a "good or Lawful" PC who'd been working alongside Imoen, Minsc/Boo, Dynahier, Khalid, Kivan, Ajantis, even Branwen etc. would stand a good chance of "coming back" next time they got to a priest - I would think.
I would think from a fantasy standpoint you'd be on trickier ground if you play "evil or even neutral" PCor have a group composed of such as they would be likely, at least, plausibly to decide to "take the spoils for themselves."
Let your conscience be your guide.
So I throw my thoughts out to the group. I thought maybe:
1) The challenge would be such that if your PC is killed you relaod and go from there. You can either complete your ill fated battle or go back and regroup but you must:
a) Donate the minimum amount to raise your PC to the temple of your choice immediately upon finishing your battle and/or returning to a town (this equates to the fee your party paid to have you raised again). Name the temple that raised your PC.If the party would not have sufficient gold (prior to the battle) to do so then they would have to sell items they had "before" the battle that killed you to raise the required income.
c) If that would not be possible then your game is over.
d) Also, if you choose to "refight" the battle immediately and lose again, then you must donate double the amount to raise you - or triple depending on how many times you reload and get whooped before you're successful
2) I thought for the challenge maybe the fun who be to see who can get thru everything in BG to include Ulgoth's Beard and associated quests (e.g. Durlag's Tower) with the fewest reloads. Those interested could keep up with "who done the best."
a) All areas of the BG Map and BG itself need to be clearedSidequests would be those associated with selected NPCs
3) I also think it is more fun if you don't automatically buff up going into a fight just because you know it's coming since you've played the game a million times.
4) Otherwise I think it would be like the No-Reload Challenge.
a) Start by identifying the game you're playing (i.e. Vanilla BG, Easy Tutu etc) and whatever mods you've addedID your PC name, stats, class, proficiencies etc.
c) Continue by naming NPCs as they are added/dropped from your group
d) Tell everyone about your exploits and HAVE FUN!

General: I'd forgotten how good the smell of the ocean air can be. Candlekeep was near the coast, and even from within it's secure walls you could smell the salt on the sea breeze when the wind was right. Near the lighthouse it was strong and fishy and the seagulls were ever present – and I loved it.
We proceeded in the usual manner with Khalid scouting ahead, and reporting back when he found anything I needed to know about or just whenever he felt he'd gotten too far away from the group.
Our first encounter of note allowed us to help a woman coax her son down from the abandoned lighthouse. Our job in this was to kill three Worgs that had ‘treed’ the boy stuck inside the lighthouse. We never even saw the boy but the woman insisted he was there and she'd get him down once we were gone - that he'd be as frightened of us as he was the Worgs. She handed us 60 GPs for our trouble and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer.
We came across a large group of Hobgoblins/Orecai, probably 15 or so, in the northern part of the lighthouse area. No trouble for us and we assume they were affiliated with the Chill. One thing that stood out to me: Khalid had seen about five of the Orecai clumped together and when he reported we decided they were close enough for one fireball to do the trick. So Dy tossed one and it charcoaled all five of them into little black, well-done spots.
Afterward we killed a couple of Carrion Crawlers, a couple of wolves and a couple more Worgs.
Following the event below, we found the cave of the Pirate, Black Alaric. It contained three Flesh Golem's, three large area traps that Khalid masterfully detected and disarmed, and one heck of a treasure. We easily eliminated the Flesh Golems.
As we were leaving, having already cleaned out Black Alaric's Cave, an attractive woman approached us and told us she had a map to the treasure and could use our help. She poured it on thick but we turned her off. Hope she wasn't too disappointed when she finally made it to the cave.
Key Event: I'd read about Sirine’s as most of us have that have had any studies at all - which with the exception of Minsc, means everyone. As soon as we arrived Jaheira warned about their charms and reminded me to 'stay focused.'
We ended up killing two of them in a battle just northeast of the lighthouse. In that one, Minsc fell under one of their songs. We pretty easily handled them after that but had to stay out of Minsc's way until the spell had worn off.
We found a third Sirine alone a little farther northeast and easily defeated her.
Then almost due west of there, just a few hundred yards from where we'd tangled with the Carrions, Khalid scouted Sil, who later identified herself as their leader, and two of her sisters. I asked Jaheira to drop an Entangle spell in the midst of them and she was able to without being retaliated against. Then Minsc and I rushed for Sil and the other two. Since he wields Spider's Bane and I have a Ring of Free Action we were unaffected by the Entangle Spell. One of the three dropped quickly but somewhere in there they got Khalid with their charms.
Khalid became an immediate danger to the girls, who were all with him just outside the range of the Entangle spell. They all moved away from him quickly hoping to avoid his arrows, although he hit his bride before she was sufficiently far enough away. Between falling under the Sirine's song and hitting her with an Arrow of Biting, I think Khalid better be in a 'yes dear' frame of mind for about the next decade or so.
Anyway, while all that was happening behind us, Minsc and I killed the remaining two Sirine's before heading into Black Alaric's cave.

General: After a break to relax a bit and recover at the Burning Wizard, one of our two favorite Inn's (the other being the Nashkel Inn), we headed back to the coast.
The Shipwreck's Coast provided some interesting twists to ho-hum adventuring.
We had to deal with three more Sirine's, and once again Minsc fell victim to their song. The old softy! We had some difficulty with them but finished them in relatively short order. Minsc was a little beat up and Jaheira cast a Healing Spell on him. When fighting the Sirine’s I took the safe route and used a Potion of Invulnerability for the protection it provides versus spells hazards.
Moving north from there, with Khalid scouting ahead Hidden in Shadow, we came across a man who turned out to be a surgeon - and Davaeorn’s brother. As we were going to engage him in conversation though, we suddenly realized we were in the midst of about seven Ogre's and Ogrillons. We charged into them with Minsc and me in the lead, closely followed by Khalid. I ordered Khalid back and called for spell support from 'the girls' which they provided including, I believe, a Fireball behind the Ogres/Orgrillons, and a couple of Acid Arrows to the bad guys up front. It was a struggle and Minsc took a couple of shots but we finished them off. Our good fortune to be near the surgeon was that he offered to heal Minsc and did so almost completely.
From there we came upon a shipwreck. While searching where we could, making sure not to fall through the rotting timbers, we found a strange ring. Dy slapped an Identify Spell on it and it turned out to be a Ring of Folly. Glad we didn't hand that one off for immediate use. Khalid moved on a head In Shadow only to return and inform us that there was a little man up ahead casting a spell, but who appeared harmless. We approached him and he was not quite 'all there' but we did solve the mystery of the ring. He asked about it not knowing we'd already found it so we gladly returned it to him and he rewarded us with an Oil of Fiery Burning.
Later we battled an Ogre and a couple of Ghouls together and a third ghoul as we were headed back east. Wondering if these ghouls were what remained of sailors who'd encountered Shoal who I’ll talk about momentarily.
***Key Event Occurs Here (see below)***
On our return from the Shipwreck's Coast we were intent on going to High Hedge Manor to sell off what we'd gathered on the coast and buy some Potions, maybe some arrows. We came into a part of High Hedge we'd not been to before and while travelling toward the manor came across a cabin with a couple of Huge Spiders and a couple of Ghouls keeping watch out front. We took them out with little difficulty. On inspecting the cabin we found an Aquamarine Gem in a locked chest.
Key Event: Khalid returned from scouting to tell us that there was a ' blue sea woman' in front of us who didn’t appear to be a threat. We came forward as a party and Minsc couldn't help himself. We had no room for her to tag along and told her so but the next thing we know, she plants a kiss on Minsc and Minsc hits the grass and it blows him away - not in a good way either.
We immediately attacked and began a severe pummeling but she cried out for mercy blaming a, so-far unseen Ogre Mage, for capturing her essence and using it to control her. We agreed to help her be free if she would restore Minsc which she did - albeit just barely . Next thing we know there's a giant Ogre Mage headed toward us from the west. We wasted no time and as with all enemies that start incanting spells - or those we know are capable of it - we took no prisoners. Jaheira cast Doom on him, Dy used an Acid Arrow I think, and Immy used a Scroll of Color Spray she'd been saving but he was too powerful to be affected by that. Meanwhile Khalid started firing off Arrows of Biting and Minsc and I pounded away. I think I quaffed a Potion of Invulnerability but I'm not sure - I do know when we left the coast I was out and I had three of them just a day or two ago.
Treasure Acquired: (Legend: Sold (S); General Party Use (GPU); Stanley (St), Minsc (Mi), Khalid (Kh) etc; Spellbook (Sb): Helmet of Defense (St); Arrows of Biting x15 (Kh); Potion(s) of Magic Protection (St), Oil of Fiery Burning (Kh); Miscellaneous scrolls, weapons, gems (S); >125GPs
Leader Notes: I've been toying with using my Turn Undead (TU) ability , leaving Minsc to charge ahead into battles with some lesser undead without me at his side. He joked that I need to practice my TU skills when he's not surrounded by Ghouls and Ghasts.
Also, I gave the Helm of Charm Protection I'd been wearing to Minsc and swapped it for the Helm of Defense I took on the Ogre Mage we killed.
Current Disposition: Resting in Beregost @ the Burning Wizard.
Next Steps: Finish Exploring around High Hedge Manor and the move on to the Temple of the Morning area

General: We've been back and forth to High Hedge many times but we've never taken the time to see what lay in the woods and grounds surrounding the Manor. As often as we'd run into skeletons there we felt that it would be 'cleansing' to investigate what might be out there in those woods.
When we returned from the Shipwreck's Coast we found a cabin there which was 'guarded' by Huge Spiders and Ghouls but aside from that we'd only spent time on the path from Beregost to High Hedge Manor.
We scouted the countryside around the manor and killed about a dozen skeletons and about half dozen Gnolls.
Key Event: Not much of a key event but we actually found and killed the Gnoll that had taken a short sword from a Hobbit we met in Beregost. Then we sold it to Thalantyr completely forgetting about the little guy. I remembered him when I was reviewing my notes and, darnit, my conscience got to me so we headed back over and retrieved it. Even with all that, he was still a little grump.
Treasure Acquired: (Legend: Sold (S); General Party Use (GPU); Stanley (St), Minsc (Mi), Khalid (Kh) etc; Spellbook (Sb): Miscellaneous arms, gems; <100GPs
Leader Notes: It may seem a wasted trip but, as a Cavalier, I just feel the need to clean out as much evil from the countryside as I can. I know I can't get it all, and I know much of it will respawn but still I'm driven to defeat evil in the Faerun from the Nashkel Mines all the way to Ulgoth's Beard and everything in between.
Current Disposition: Resting in Beregost @ the Burning Wizard.
Next Steps: Over to do the same around the Temple of the Morning. Been there ~ 20 times to meet with Priest Keldadath but only straight to the temple and straight back to Beregost. Rechelle tells me there is much to be seen in that countryside.

General: We headed over next to the Temple of the Morning to scout the area around the temple itself. Like High Hedge Manor, we'd been to the temple many, many times but had never seen the area that surrounds it. There was more than just canyons and sage grass out there.
We found a maiden, Corriana, petrified in stone. Since Jaheira carries five Stone to Flesh Scrolls at all times, she was quick to free the young woman. The woman was truly thankful and gave us a Potion of Mirrored Eyes just in case we ever meet a Basilisk. She said his lair was nearby.
Just south of the Mountain Peaks we met an Orecai (Hobgoblin) group from the chill. Khalid had scouted them and returned to tell us there were 10 or so of them with swords. I decided this one was tailor made for a Dy cast Fireball right in the midst of them. She moved forward and fired it off and it killed maybe four, possible five of them. The head Orecai, who identified himself as Cattack was not killed. He and another charged toward us and met their death. We then had to charge ahead and take care of the remaining three or so that had not been killed by the fireball.
Key Event: Our first confrontation was with a pack of wild dogs which we easily handled. Just as we were wrapping that up and preparing to send Khalid forward to scout Hidden in Shadow, we came upon some wolves. As we turned to face them we found we'd come upon a pack of Dread Wolves, Worgs, and two Vampiric wolves.
We came in standard formation with Minsc and I out front, each choosing to take a Vampiric Wolf first and deal with the lessers later. Minsc got his to go down pretty quickly, although he took a couple or three vicious bites. But being the Barbarian he is, he just kept on attacking and pretty soon there was only one wolf remaining.
I had a tougher battle with my Vampiric Wolf and by the time I'd laid him down for good there was just the one wolf and everyone was closing on him. He was quickly killed.

General: Having heard that the Lair of the Basilisk that petrified Corriana was near, we ventured over to Mutamin's Garden (MG) where the topography most resembled that of the Temple of the Morning area where's we'd found her.
As soon as we entered the area, Jaheira warned the party that there were indeed Basilisk's in this area and we had better be prepared.
Before we ran into our first Basilisk we encountered and killed three Gnolls and had a discussion with a Ghoul. He said he was our friend but he was a Ghoul. We chose to treat him like any other.
We then came across an Amazon woman, Sharteel, who challenged our best male swordfighter to a duel. We declined in the interest of Chivalry.
Khalid scouting ahead Hidden in Shadow came across two Lesser Basilisk's but couldn't wait to return to let us know before taking a bow shot at one of them. Needless to say they followed. Minsc and I had two each Potions of Mirrored Eyes, Khalid one. I quaffed one and headed in for the fight alone, charging the others to stay back. Unfortunately, Khalid got within eyesight of one of them and 'blamo', he was stone. We finished them off and Jaheira brought out one of the five Stone to Flesh Scrolls she always carries and we got him back in tip top shape.
Moving on from there we found a woman who'd been petrified and Jaheira was able to use another one of her Stone to Flesh Scrolls to free her. She was grateful.
***Key Event Occurs Here***
After the key event below everyone started getting tired. I had a good mind to push them on but then Dy said something that suddenly rose as a blinding flash of the obvious. She had Protection from Petrification in her Spellbook. Immy piped in that she did too. Suddenly, giving them time to rest, study and memorize that spell as many times as we dared within their first level spells became a no-brainer. Dy memorized four and Immy three. Then the Basilisk's became a cake-walk. We ended up killing ten or 11 I'd say.
As we were wrapping up I did it again. I let some smart talking Amazon draw me into a fight. I know I should have turned the other cheek, but just like the last time the challenge was more than I could turn away from. A group of adventurer's, with a loud-mouthed female insulting our group, got my ire up. I tried as I could to turn away but the challenge, the undermining of my very capable party, was too much and I lost control. The last thing I remember as I was drawing steel was Dy saying something about it taking two idiots to start a fight. I had already wanted to dual Sharteel before and hated to walk away from that one, especially with her departing insult but I did so. This was just too much. Women!
With my Ring of Fire Resistance and Helm of Defense I charged in and ordered Immy and Dy to drop dual fireballs in their midst. As that was happening a Black Bear or Brown Bear was coming from the east and attacking us too. The fireball killed two of the adversarial adventurers and I headed for big mouth. She went down fairly easily as did the other. Somewhere in there the bear died too and we were finished with MG
Key Event: Khalid doing his job scouted a two more Basilisks, one Greater and one Lesser. With them was a Gnome, Mutamin. He returned and I decided to use the same tactic with me quaffing a potion of Mirrored eyes and going in to kill them both, since aside from their gaze they're not too tough to handle. I told Khalid and girls to deal with Mutamin. All started well but somehow the party ended up in range of the Basilisk's gazes. On the fly, Minsc quaffed one of his potions and headed in to assist with the Basilisk's while the others began engaging Mutamin. I killed the grater Basilisk and was headed up to kill the Lesser, where Minsc was battling. We killed it...and then I remember coming to with Jaheira standing in front of me having just cast a Stone to Flesh scroll - on me. Now that was weird. I don't know but evidently just as we killed the last one, he got off one last gaze attack just as my Potion of Mirrored Eyes was wearing off. ***See Game Note Below***

Leader Notes: I get complacent and comfortable with the spells the girls carry and forget what else they might have. Need to do a spell review more often just to see if it's smart to change things up a bit. We did so when we returned to the Burning Wizard after MG.
Current Disposition: Resting in Beregost @ the Burning Wizard.
Next Steps: Spider Wood just north of MG
Game Notes/Questions: ***Looking for a ruling...Please let me know your opinion. Simple majority*** My PC was turned to stone, and that required a 'reload.' Our party was equipped with Stone to Flesh scrolls (we always carry five). We'd just used one on Khalid and another on Tamah. Still had three left. I could see from the reload screen that my PC had just been turned to stone, not chunked. As with being raised, I want to assume Jaheira did for me as we did for Khalid and, later Dy, and cast a Stone to Flesh on me - no harm, no foul. Since I was not 'dead' but only stone I am not charging myself with a reload. It makes sense, I think, and is consistent with the spirit of the Minimal Reload challenge but I want to know what you all think. I will leave/or change the number of reloads based on topic opinion. CKT
Promotions: Jaheira advanced to 9th Level Druid and added Insect Plague to her standard memorized spells. Dy also advanced, to 8th Level Invoker, and added a second Spirit Armor to her 4th Level Memorized spells and the rearranged her third level spells, deciding against Lightning Bolt. She now carries Fireball, Slow, Dispel Magic and Haste as her normal repertoire at that level. Lightning Bolts can be tricky even when the good girls cast them.

I'm gonna try to reload EXACTLY with same mods as last time - I kept a detailed list of everything I checked or declined so I could use later for BGII.
Not sure, once I reload, if the game will recognize my saved games (I always save my games at the end of each session on a thumb drive just in case what happened happens). I have my game saved somewhere around Durlag's Tower but don't know if my relaod will recognize it.
We shall see. CKT
