The bottom line here, like the No-Reload is that it is "self-policing."   Image IPB  Common sense dictates. If you end up in one of those situations (and we've all been there) where suddenly for no reason half your party is dead, one or two are "held", and your PC dies while numerous monsters are pounding the two "held"  NPCs then there's not much chance those two would rally to save the entire party. Image IPB

My thoughts were that the challenge would have as it's basis that if you reload the assumption is that the surviving members of your party thought you worth raising (just as I assume you as the PC may have done for them previously a time or two).

So, if you are in a party where most of the party seems to be a good relationship amongst the group in the unfortunate event of your demise it would seem logical that they'd pay the going rate to have you raised as you would them. If killed a "good or Lawful" PC who'd been working alongside Imoen, Minsc/Boo, Dynahier, Khalid, Kivan, Ajantis, even Branwen etc. would stand a good chance of "coming back" next time they got to a priest - I would think.

I quoted this earlier, because I had intended based on the responses I received to call myself 'safe' at Mutamin's Garden by virtue of the fact that the entire party was alive and we had three Stone to Flesh scrolls.  Since I've many times raised other members of the party and/or had them turned from Stone to Flesh, my assumption was that they'd do so for me.  However, now that my game has crashed I'm not sure it really matters. We'll see if I can recover my game saves when I reload Easy Tutu and my same mods.  CKT

I've reloaded my OS and BG Tutu w/Mods. Gonna try to "resurrect" my game but I elected to make a few different tweaks. Think that'll make raising Stanley impossible.

Guess it doesn't matter since looks like this thread has gone dormant.

See ya on the boards. CKT

Sorry to hear about your crash CKT. Could your crash be the Beregost bug? Was just wondering as there's a fix for that if so. You go so far, it's horrible when you have to abort then...

Ahh, sorry, but I got into Dragon Age: Origins, and Dragon Age 2 again, but I hope that you'll either ressurect your run, or start over again. Also, I have college work that I need to do as well so Analethene's run is postponed until I get back into BG2, and I won't have college work to do. In my opinion, the idea isn't totally dead until nobody wants to play with it anymore.

Well, the good news is that afte entirely reloading my OS, BG1, BGII, TOB and the mods I was using previously it appears I am able to retrieve and play my game from where I was.

I was concerned that as I went thru the mods and made some changes that the previous version of the game would not be visible when I moved it to my Tutu 'Saves' folder but I was wrong.

Using an old computer for gaming purposes, I make a habit of saving my game at the end of every session to a 'thumb drive' just in case.

This was why I do that. CKT

Spider Wood

General: After a rest at the Burning Wizard, we repacked and headed for the area called The Spider Wood.

We set Khalid out front to scout Hidden in Shadow and he did a spectacular job of keeping the party informed of what lay ahead and out of several of those darned Ettercap/Spider Web Traps. Never did the traps cause us any problems

Early on he sighted some Tasloi in the northwestern part of the wood, but as we formed into battle formation to advance on them we spotted two Huge Spiders of to the right of us. We decided that was the new primary effort so we wheeled right to face them head-on and deal with the Tasloi afterward. It worked and there were only minor spider bites, if at all.

From there forward we primarily came upon groups of two or three Spiders or Ettercaps and easily took them out.

We had two rather large battles. The first was with a group of six spiders that Khalid spotted grouped together near the eastern center of the wood. He returned and let us know that he counted a Sword Spider, two Wraith Spiders, a Phase Spider and two Huge/Giant Spiders. I decided on the old barbecue tactic with a twist. I sent Khalid forward once again cloaked in Shadow, and once he got good position, he tossed an Oil of Fiery Burning (OoFB) right in their midst.

Then he returned to the main body of the party and assumed his normal battle position. Sure enough a few of the spiders made tracks after him and when they emerged from the grove of trees we were waiting to cut them down.

Then we moved forward, found the other surviving spiders and finished them with ease. They'd all been injured, at least one almost killed by the OoFB.

***Key Event occurs here***

As we were heading home we ran into a guy who said a Tasloi had stolen his Scroll of Wisdom. He started telling us where we could find it but we already had it and tried to give it back to him. He gave it to us a gift to help our Karma. Turns out the thing was cursed anyway.

Key Event: From there we continued to search westward again across the center of the wood. Khalid returned from scouting to say he'd seen a mage like man standing at the top of a staircase in what appeared to be an abandoned temple. He said the man was the only one he could get close enough to see.

We attacked in the 'V' formation with me at the point ***see leader note***. When we got close enough for him to see us he hailed us and told us 'they' would have to kill us. They! Plural! There were four mages of some kind and they all started incanting something a the same time. Holy Smoke. I quaffed a Potion of Magic Blocking and headed for big mouth. I told Dy and Immy to use the 'Dual Fireballs' counting on my Helm of Defense and Ring of Fire Resistance to keep me safe as I charged in. Jaheira brought Lightning from the sky on the leader of the group. Minsc was right beside me and singed his eyebrows and chest hair a bit but other than that we pummeled them good.

I made this the key event solely because of the treasure involved. The Spider battle was just as tough.

Treasure Acquired: (Legend: Sold (S); General Party Use (GPU); Stanley (St), Minsc (Mi), Khalid (Kh) etc; Spellbook (Sb): Mage Robes (Electrical Resistance, Cold Resistance x 2, Fire Resistance (S); Potion(s) Healing x2 (GPU); Scroll(s) of Blindness (Im); Miscellaneous scrolls (S); ~400GPs

Leader Notes: I've started using the 'V' formation for battle out of doors with me on point, MInsc left and Khalid right, the girls bring up the rear with Imoen center. Now that Khalid is strong enough to take a hit up front I like that formation better. It spreads us out better and provides more flexibility. We continue to use the standard formation for regular movement.

Lion’s Way

General: We returned to Lion’s Way just to scout the area around the main road that we’d missed way back those weeks ago when Imoen and I first met up here following Gorion’s Death.  As with every area we’ve passed thru since being accused of murdering the Iron Throne leaders, we used this as an opportunity to wipe out any evil we could find.

Lion’s way is closer to Candlekeep and the people I grew up with than any other place we’ve been so passing through there provides me a sense that, even though I’m not allowed in anymore, the people Imoen and I care about there are at least safe from an attack from the east.

We really found nothing here save a couple of wolves, some Diseased Giberlings and some dandy who was threatening to jump off a cliff. I easily persuaded him otherwise.

Key Event: None to speak of really. I couldn’t resist going west on the road to Candlekeep just to see if I might gain entrance but to no avail. The highlight was that I wasn’t attacked by the Keeper of the portal.

Fishing Village/Wyrm’s Crossing/Farm Lands

General
: We left the FAI intent on seeing the area around the Fishing Village. We’d passed thru on our way to BG the first time but besides meeting Gerde and some of her Ankheg’s we saw little of what else was there.

And it looked for a while like that was it.  We continued to come across Ankheg’s and I’m quite sure that we exceeded our ‘catch limit’ including one way up in Wyrm’s Crossing.

***Key Event Occurs Here (see notes below) ***

We finally found the Fishing Village itself where we came upon three men who complained that an evil priestess of Umberlee was ruining their fishing and had even killed one of their number. They told us she was making the seas so rough that they couldn’t fish. They asked us to aid them and said she could be found north of the Fishing Village.  Not doubting their veracity we headed to the Wyrm’s Crossing area to confront her.

What we found instead was a little girl named Tenya, yet she was far more than an Acolyte of Umberlee. Trying to pry information out of her turned her hostile toward us she displayed power but when we attacked she finally broke down and told us that the fisherman had killed her mother to acquire a Bowl of Water Elemental Control. Though Tenya was totally converted having been raised by a mother who was[/i] undoubtedly a Priestess of Umberlee we were all moved to defend her against the fishermen.  We confronted them back at the Fishing Village and then the truth came forth. We ended up killing them and returning the bowl to Tenya. She was relieved but I leave uneasy knowing that she still offers herself to such a despicable Goddess.

From there we moved north without returning to the FAI as planned. Instead we headed up to the Farmlands where we were able to help a community rid themselves of a Zombie infestation.  We probably killed 20 of the nasty things but we left those people safe and they rewarded us with 150GPs that they’d collected.

From there we headed east to Ulgoth’s Beard in search of an inn.

Key Event: As we were reconnoitering the Fishing Village we met a farmer named Brun who was desperately looking for his son. He said his son and another boy had gone west following some tracks. We followed the directions given us and it led to an Ankheg nest.

Inside we battled and killed at least 10 more Ankheg’s.  They were everywhere in a maze of tunnels they had burrowed under the fields. Unfortunately, we were too late to save his son and found his body in an alcove filled with treasure. He was far too mutilated and decomposed for any priest to be of help. We returned Nathan’s body to Farmer Brun and he was heartsick and feared he would not be able to keep his farm without his boy to help. I gave him 100GPs to try and help where I could but there is nothing in this world[/i] that will ever assuage the pain I saw it that man’s eyes.

We stayed with Brun that night not wanting him to be alone on such a sad night and would have aided him in the burial but he preferred to be alone so we moved on. I'd like to check on him again, maybe when next we pass this way.

Treasure Acquired: (Legend: Sold (S); General Party Use (GPU); Stanley (St), Minsc (Mi), Khalid (Kh) etc; Spellbook (Sb): Potion of Magic Protection (St); Bowl of Water Elemental Control (given to Tenya); Flail +1 (S); Darts of Stunning/Wounding (x5)(S); Miscellaneous arms, armor, scrolls (S); >900 GPs;

Next Steps: A Dwarf, Hurgan Stoneblade, approached us at the Ulgoth’s Beard Inn and asked us if we’d be willing to go to Durlag’s Tower and collect a family heirloom of his, a dagger named Soul Taker, to which Minsc replied, “Certainty of death, *small* chance of success... What are we waiting for?"

We have a few things to buy and see but we'll head there in the next 2-3 days.

Hi all, nice to be back!

I'll throw my game into the ring, playing a human male cavalier, lawful good (obviously) with a character intended for a no-reload a while back, Paetrick Diamkyo. I am roleplaying, so I'm not doing any unethical quests. Paetrick is also incredibly naive and quite easily stirred into a battle if someone insults him. He's flipping arrogant too (and like Keldorn, quite a bit racist to dark elves).

Anyway, rolled a beautiful 96 for the stats, but a shame the strength couldn't be higher:
STR 18/06
DEX 18
CON 18 (19 after tome)
INT 11
WIS 13
CHA 18 (19 after tome)

Proficiencies:
Long sword **
Flail *
Two Weapon Style ***

I've been playing for quite a bit, so he's done Nashkel and is currently roaming the sword coast looking for the bandit camp. Despite Tranzig's notes, he is determined that it is a false bread crumb trail.

He is currently lvl 6 and the rest of the party:
Ajantis lvl 5
Imoen thief lvl 6 dual to mage currently lvl 4
Kivan lvl 6
Branwen lvl 6 (currently doing romance)

Previously had Khalid and Jaheira.

I'm either going to pick up Coran or Yeslick in Cloakwood. Right now, I'm trying to get Imoen's thieving skills back. We managed to do ice island without a thief. Branwen cast detect traps and sanctuary and became the scout. Potions of fire resistance and absorption helped Paetrick who soaked up the traps (the magic missile ones were insignificant). The battles were tough, but only 2 reloads were necessary. The more difficult mage ones were done by Kivan hitting them with arrows of biting. The poison prevented their dangerous spells from being cast.

Currently, the party is in the south of the Sword Coast, almost in Amn really. They've cleard out most of the areas on the map, except the basilisk area, Larswood, Ulcaster, Gullykin, Firewine and that place with the wizards of Thay. Next destination: Firewine.

RELOAD COUNT: 5
1 Mulahey
1 Adventuring party, east of Nashkel (the one with two archers and two priests)
2 Ice island
1 Sirine kiss (I accidentally misclicked Paetrick instead of Khalid)

Mods used:
Tutu (plus all the fixes and stuff), Unfinished Business, Mini Quests and Encounters, Grey Clan, Sirine's Call, Tweakpack, NPC Project, and Gavin NPC

Paetrick's portrait:

Welcome back, Piper! I wish you luck on your current run!

I'm sorry! I would have kept progress with Analethene's run (Which its safe to say that its not going to be completed at this point in time.), but I've been busy with course work, and other things. So, whenever I get interested in the BG Trilogy again...Then, you know..

As I said earlier, good luck and have fun!

@CKT - just wanted to let you know people DO read your posts (myself being one of them) - but if there's no question, I usually wouldn't respond to it. I remember I started a thread about my solo Fighter/Druid in ToB, no one commented for a while, but as soon as I got stuck, comments came flying out of the woodwork. Guess what I am saying is you aren't posting to thin air, your posts are being read, but if that's not enough for you I understand.

Update on Paetrick:

Cleared out all the wilderness areas except Cloakwood and Durlag's Tower. Bandit camp was a total breeze, what with Paetrick leading the charge with Boots of Avoidance and Cloak of Displacement. Because Imoen still didn't have thief skills back, potion of absorption was used for the chest.

Got through to the first area on Cloakwood and picked up Coran to deal with traps in the mines. In the spider area currently, sorry for the short update. Party is now:

Paetrick lvl 6
Ajantis lvl 6
Imoen lvl 6 thief -> mage lvl 6
Branwen lvl 7
Kivan lvl 6
Coran F/M 5/5

Paetrick and his band cleared out Cloakwood easily. The entire druid mission was sidestepped because Jaheira wasn't around. The wyverns were dealt with easily except Ajantis died after a wyvern turned away from the poison-immue Paetrick (cavaliers can be so overpowered in BG1 sometimes) to attack someone else.

The party returned after a short trip south to the song of the morning temple, where Coran recieved his reward and Ajantis was revived. The mercenaries outside the Cloakwood mine were easily dispatched - Branwen put up the usual buffs and Imoen unleashed a fireball to begin the battle. The mages were taken down first and the rest followed.

Davaeorn was simpler than expected - I didn't even need to put any buffs in place. Coran triggered Davaeorn's dialogue when disarming traps, but curiously the wizard didn't attack right away, allowing Branwen to dispel his enchantments. The party jumped straight into melee and Davaeorn made the mistake of allowing Paetrick to get too close and the lawful good juggernaut of destruction chunked him almost immediately. He didn't even get a chance to cast his dimension door. For shame, Davaeorn!

The party looted the place silly and released the water of the dam (after saving the slaves and Yeslick of course). They headed south to Beregost where they made their farewell to Coran and are currently resting up for their trip north to the big city.

I'm enjoying the party of 5, really. Once they all hit the level cap, I might recruit Coran or Yeslick for extra punch, but Imoen is still short of 10,000 xp to get her thief skills back and that's a priority.

Current party:
Paetrick Diamkyo - Cavalier lvl6
Ajantis - Paladin lvl 6
Imoen - Thief lvl6 -> Mage lvl6
Branwen - Cleric lvl7
Kivan - Ranger lvl6

Sounds like you are doing good, PicklepepperPiper! Keep it up! And yeah, paladin kits in general are pretty powerful for BG 1. Being poison immune sure handy for the Cloakwood areas and ambushes.

Alright, Paetrick and his party entered Baldur's Gate and immediately got Marek and Lothander's poison quest out of the way as soon as possible (didn't keep the wisdom tome, as Paetrick would consider that to be unlawful and malicious).

They then initiated the Grey Clan mod, but whilst searching for the bandits in the Northwest corner of the city, they stumbled across that horrible house with the doom guards and invisible stalkers. The party immediately fled outside but the monsters followed. Imoen had to resort to wand of cheese (monster summoning) whilst the rest of the party came close to death, but they won in the end.

A bandit battle later and the party travelled south to FAI, where the Grey Clan had stormed the fortress. Pretty much every battle here was tough - I had to use Kivan to lure the enemies one by one to the party, and even then needed 2 reloads for the entire ordeal.

I tried to do the Beregost stage of the Grey Clan mod, but the battle is just waaaay too difficult - I think I'll have to reinstall it as the lite version, because I can handle getting my **** handed to me only so often. So that's sitting in Beregost, waiting to be done. The party decides to travel north, back to the big city, to do the work that Scar wished them to do.

Any tips on that Beregost Grey Clan battle? The one with Tevan and the two high sorceresses? I was thinking cloudkills but need to find a scroll first.

Party is:
Paetrick lvl 7
Ajantis lvl 7
Imoen lvl 6 -> 7 (thief skills back, yay!)
Branwen lvl 7
Kivan lvl 7

Wish I had some tips for you, but I have yet to play the Grey Clan mod, so when I get to it I may have some tips. I may do it though on my enjoyment run that I'm doing right now.

No worries, I got there. Basically the melee-ers (including my beloved juggernaut Paetrick) had to remain invisible the entire time - they were too easy targets for dire charms and the like. I only found 2 scrolls of cloudkill, of the 3 I know are in the game.

With the entire party invisible and a horde of monsters summoned, Imoen cast cloudkill to begin. Naturally, the mages jumped into their defensive casting and Imoen drank a potion of invisibility. The summoned monsters fell quickly, but one of the mages was still standing in the cloud and was down to "injured" by the time it disappeared. Imoen cast another cloudkill and went invisible again. This time, both mages were caught and one was killed, the other down to badly wounded. Another horde of monsters were summoned to keep the last mage and Tevan busy, and Kivan jumped out of invisibility with a potion of speed and arrows of dispelling, killing the mage. Only Tevan was left, and he is extremely deadly in melee. Kivan zipped around the room, peppering him with arrows of fire and ice until he was killed too.

Like all BG battles, once you find the solution, it's too easy :D

Personally, I found the battle with the Tatooed Man in the FAI much harder. He just kept summoning more of those super-fast guys, and I had to flee and return repeatedly. By comparison, the final battle was relatively easy - the mages were tough and whatnot, but not ridiculous the way the other guy was.

Paetrick has finished the game, with a total of 9 reloads.

He killed Rielter in Candlekeep - such a criminal could not be allowed to walk free. Of course, Paetrick was almost immediately thrown into jail but escaped. It was a short trip to Durlaq's tower (to try hit the XP cap before facing Sarevok) but I decided not to do the entire thing and after battling Pride, Love and the other whatstherefaces departed back to Baldur's Gate where the party were considered criminals. Paetrick, with the help of Imoen's invisibility spells, rescued Duke Eltan. They were approached by Tamako to kill Cynthandria (is that her name?) and spare Sarevok's life.

Cynthandria was dealt with, as was the two dimwit assassins in the undercellars. The party went to the Duchal Palace and confronted Sarevok. Battle ensued, but both the dukes made it out alive.

Cut to after the thieve's maze, and there was a moment of panic when arrows of detonation threatend to wipe out the entire party with the battle outside the temple. However, crisis was averted and it was a quick rest up (quick being 8 hours) before they ran into Tamako and convinced her to walk away.

Okay, battle with Sarevok. Once again, a small horde of monsters provided a useful distraction. Buffs were laid in place (a lot of them) and virtually every potion was drunk. Kivan darted forward to start the battle - Angleo was then immediately dispatched of, not before letting off 3 arrows of detonation which thankfully missed most of the party and took care of the summoned monsters. The wizard was next - an arrow of dispelling and he was nothing. Tazok entered the fray and Kivan had his glorious moment of revenge. Finally, all 6 party members were left in good condition to face Sarevok alone. He didn't stand a chance.

Right, time to take Paetrick over to BGII, where I've installed the Ajantis beta and Kivan mods so he'll have some of his dear BG1 friends along for the ride. Branwen left Paetrick after convincing herself that battle was more important than love. And Coran, well, we'll meet him again somewhere in BGII...

Good job on finishing the game Piper! I'll have to update the challenger list later.

And Coran, well, we'll meet him again somewhere in BGII...

There is a Coran Mod for BG2 out now, so if you want to have Coran in the party you could go check it out.
