A quick question SapphireIce101 - which mod gives the NPC's in the game portraits? If it doesn't alter the game in any other way, I'd love to pick that up for my EasyTuTu install.

Thanks in advance, and good luck with your run!

I think its called NSC Portraits, or Gerri's BGT Portrait Pack. Unfortunately, it only works on BGT installs. :(

Thanks for the luck, and good luck and have fun on whatever your doing Easymask!

[once Akiel got to Scar he was prompted into a meeting with Duke Eltan. So then Akiel was hired to investigate the Iron Throne]

Now, that's putting the fox in charge of the hen house if I ever saw it...:bandit:

Heh, and if you read on after that there were many deaths after that. Poor Iron Throne people. They didn't see what was coming to them.

Update time! I've decided to condense it down, and go straight to the fight with Sarevok. Considering what happened in between here and there. The only main difference was that Akiel did not kill Eltan's Doppleganger healer, Angelo just let the group go because Shar-Teel was in the group, and Akiel killed a lot of people including Tamoko. Also, I had to reload twice on the protecting the dukes part because the group members were getting mind controlled and attacked the dukes. lol.

At long last, Akiel was face to face with Sarevok. Akiel knew he would enjoy killing Sarevok because he was truely a challenge, especially due to the fact that they were brothers for their dead god father's throne. That was a spot that Akiel planned on claiming all on his own, and Sarevok had to die for that dream to come true! Sarevok died, but the battle against him was somewhat difficult.

@SapphireIce: So when you play Akiel over on BGII I assume you embrace Irenicus' offer and pursue your untapped power?  I always wondered what would happen if I went that route.  My assumption is that Irenicus would still try to kill you because he wants the power ultimately.  CKT

When Akiel gets that dream, that is what he is going to do. Also, your assumption is correct. However, I think the Irenicus in the dreams is like Imoen in the dreams and that they're just representations of the PC's soul, or fragments of the PC's soul. I could be wrong on that though.

Also, I think I'm going to update the Challenger List soon.

Durlag's Tower (Labyrinth’s Level 2

General
: I didn’t expect it to get any easier as we descended and Durlag didn’t let me down. Instead of riddles, here we faced a frustrating puzzle that involved switches and doors. Many of the switches were difficult to find and, once found, we had to work through the combination of switches that opened the various doors. We even found ourselves using teleport wardstones to get to various areas of the complex.

We battled false dwarves and doom guards throughout. Nothing was easy here – nothing! We continually had to exit the tower to heal, camping on road or returning to Nashkel altogether.

We struggled a bit in an Urn Room because of Khalid’s inability to disable traps.  We had more than one unnecessary injury because of carelessness around a trap that was at the center of the room.  We garnered a little treasure and moved on.

We approached Kiel’s Room down a long back hallway that contained a fireball trap that Khalid was unable to locate and disarm. We didn’t do well negotiating this trap and there were a number of times one of us carelessly tripped it as we traversed back and forth exiting and leaving the tower. Each time we did so we all scrambled to escape the impact location but all of us took damage.

We tried a false exit in an entrance room (that led to either Kiel’s Room and beyond or to the descent to Labyrinth Level 3) and released some tough Skeleton Warriors which we struggled to take down, having a few of us already wounded by a previously released fireball. After finally knocking them out, we took our leave for a while to rest and recuperate and then returned to the ‘main event’ below.

---Key event occurred here---

Afterward, we had a fairly challenging battle in the Bridges Room with more Greater Dopplegangers but were able to beat them.  We then negotiated a number of traps in the Trophy Room but it was dicey because Khalid couldn’t disarm but a couple of them, even with a Potion of Perception to help.  Out trip this way around ended there though because in the next hall was a massive trap that Khalid couldn’t detect/disarm.  After Khalid walked into it and almost died, we decided to go the other way.

Our map indicated that there was one more room somewhere between the throne room and the trophy room.  And there was but it was pretty much overcome by events by the time we found it. It contained switches that operated various doors on this level  of the complex.

Key Event:  We found Kiel’s room and released four Doom Guards who guarded his treasure. This battle took some time and as we were once again carrying wounded personnel (fireball trap) so we had to withdraw once to rest and recuperate before finishing it off.

Initially Minsc and I, with support from behind, were able to take one of them out quickly.  But then they began wearing us down.  They were hard to get steel on but they were good at getting steel on us.  We tried staggering back and drawing them to us while the support cast hurled spells and arrows at them as quickly as they could. I’d been watching Minsc because he was definitely taking a beating, but true to form, he was still slugging it out.  But…suddenly he buckled.  And then there were five.

Jaheira came up using Eye of the Storm as did Khalid with his Bastard Sword +1/+3 (SS). They tried to assist me in melee but their armor was not up to melee with Doom Guards and before I knew it Jaheira had dropped to the floor.  And then there were four.

Trying to back down the long hall turned out to be hazardous. In our haste, one of us tripped the darned fireball trap – again – and that was enough to finish off Imoen would already taken some damage. By the time we escaped the tower to rest, we were three.  Dynahier, Khalid and I would have to finish them off ourselves.

And we did – our secret weapon?  The same fireball trap that had plagued us during the first battle turned out to be our saving grace in the second.

When we returned I moved forward toward the entrance room outside of Kiel’s Room. Dynahier had loaded up with memorized offensive spells and Khalid was ready to assist as best he could becuase his arrows, being run of the mill were useless. I was able to segregate one of them and draw him back down the hall toward Khalid and Dy. But…when he tripped the fireball suddenly it became very[/i] apparent that Doom Guards don’t like fireballs.  And, while I’m no fan myself, between my Helm of Defense, my Ring of Fire Protection and my Cloak of Protection +2, they don’t affect me too much.  But they burn Doom Guards a new one.

Once I realized that guy was toasted, I closed on him and started wailing away.  Dy was casting everything but the kitchen sink and Khalid slipped in behind him to backstab.  He was dead in no time and I immediately returned to draw the others into battle.

Using the same tactics I entered the entrance room, then withdrew right to where the trap releases.  The Doom Guards chased me and the fireball landed dead in the middle of us.  I was singed but they were torched and scorched.   From there, though it still wasn’t easy, I drew them down the hall hacking away while Dy kept hitting them with spells and Khalid tried to slip in behind and backstab.  Finally, [/i]we killed the last of them and returned to Nashkel to raise our friends and return to pickup the adventure above.

I'll be checking over there to see how it works out for Akiel.  I'll never play a bad guy but I'm still intrigued.

Btw, thanks for keeping up with the challenger list.

My latest effort is above.  I hope it's not too long before I can resume posting but I'm having computer problems.  My game is saved off line so I can resume as soon as I get my computer acting right and re-install my game. In the meantime, I'll live vicariously through ya'll.

No problem, I got to keep the challenger list up to date over there too.

Also, I think the saying "Bad guys have more fun." is kind of true. Akiel is fun, and I have to try a bad person at least once...Hes like the Anti-Soren, or Anti-Stanley. They're both paladins, but if I re-do Soren I'll probably end up using ToBEx's "Allow all races to Dual class" component, and just start Soren off as a fighter and dual him into a cleric, but thats another conversation.

Well, I had to toss out my old computer (motherboard) but I bought a new one this weekend. I've loaded all my mods back to BGTutu, now to see if my last save will agree with it (saved on a thumbdrive). It's always worked before so here's hoping I can pick up on level three of DT.

If not, it's back to the old drawing board and we'll just have to think of something creative that happened to Stanley's party. Here's hoping.

Otherwise, I'll be here tomorrow with a new PC. Then it's back to my lifelong dilemna, i.e., LG Cleric or LG Paladin or LG Fighter. My head hurts just thinking about it.

Boy I hope I can just pick up where I left off.

Question. I've loaded BG Tutu to my new computer and want to place a saved game in the 'save folder' of in Tutu. I started a game so that I could save it and it would place the 'save folder' in with the rest of the folders and files. But...it's not there. The game is saved because I can open it up and start playing but there's no foldre there like I'm used to.

I used to play on an unstable system so I always saved my game 'off system' to a thumb drive just in case. Then, I could take the saved game and copy it from the thumb drive and paste it in the 'save folder' when necessary, e.g. when I had to reinstall my OS and BGI/BGII/Tutu.

Anyway, I'm trying to fing the folder so I can recover my last game but need help doing so. The only thing I can think of that I've done differently is that I completed a 'full install' rather than recommended b/c with my new system I have the space to do so.

Any help is appreciated.

I reloaded once because I died to the Iron Throne Bounty Hunters in the Undercity. :( I'm too lazy to post my 60 or so pictures so if you want to look at them I have pictures up to the last thing I did before revisiting Candlekeep.

Go towards the Baldur's Gate screens. Not the Civ 4 ones. You can tell them apart easily because Baldur's Gate is MUCH Darker.

I recently installed EasyTutu, and there was no "Save" folder in my install as well. I just created the folder manually (e.g., with windows explorer). If you do the same and put your saved game in there ya go.

I started this PC over on the No-Relaod Challenge and he quickly fell out of the running.  Gonna try and redeem him with a solid Minimal  Reload Challege.

My new entry is Seth, named after my son, who, in turn is named after Adam and Eve's third son.  I've put my initial post from the No-Reload Challenge here as a starting point (still no reloads on this post).  My next post will provide an overview of what happened next.

By the way, my first entry, Stanley, will come to an end. I'd saved the game on the 3rd level of Durlag's Tower but when I reloaded my game to my new computer I made some modding changes that impacted my party so much (i.e. suddenly Khalid couldn't use his longbow; Imoen her shortbow etc.) so I decided it'd be easier to start a new PC.

CKT

Candlekeep (Chapter 1)

General: Yesterday everything changed. Suddenly Gorion told me to pack and be ready to leave Candlekeep as soon as possible. I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to most the monks that I'd spent nearly 20 years with. I finished up quickly picking up a few last Gold Pieces (GP) for some last minute errands. Even so, I could only afford Studded Leather Armor. Darn, before this iron crisis I was eyeing a new set of Splint Mail.

At any rate I packed everything I needed including my new Two-Handed Sword and Flail and met Gorion at the steps of the keep.  We headed immediately for the gate and out across country. As we did so, night fell.  Shorlty afterward we were ambushed and Gorion was killed defending me against a huge black armored demon-knight thing, two ogres and what I guess was a female acolyte of some kind. He shouted at me to run which, to my shame, I did.

The next morning I awoke exhausted and realized it wasn't a dream. Just then, Imoen caught up to me. Seems she'd been following us a ways back. Too be honest, I was really glad to have her along. She's been working hard on her Thieving/Swashbuckling and short bow skills but, more than that, her company is priceless.  We gathered Gorion's belongings and then headed east, keeping to the road, while trying to get to the Friendly Arm Inn (FAI) which is where Gorion told me to go should we become separated. We made the trip in a few hours but had to battle Gibberlings galore to get there. We also met a few folks along the road.

---  Key Event Occurs Here ---

We finally made our way into the FAI where we met Bessie who was able to point me to Khalid and Jaheira. She said they'd been waitin' for me. I never knew it could be so nice to meet two people I'd never heard of until that same day.

Key Event:  Just as we got to the FAI, Imoen handed me a Potion of Speed (PoS). Good thing too, because as we headed up the steps we were attacked by a Mage/Assassin. I later found out his name was Tarnesh.

When I saw he was hostile, I gulped the PoS and made a bee-line for him, sword in hand. I wanted to lay steel on target before he got off a spell. From the bottom of the stairs, Imoen popped him with a Magic Missile (MM) from a Wand of Magic Missiles (WoMM) that  she was packin'. I need to remember to give her a kiss because that missile made the difference.

Even so he was eventually able to get off a Sleep Spell and took her out of the fight after only one missile. Meanwhile, I was desperately trying to land a blow on the 'right Tarnesh' because somewhere in there he managed to get a 'Mirror Image' Spell cast on himself too. Finally, after what seemed an eternity and just before he was able to get off another spell, I landed a blow across his shoulder which severed him across the torso. He was dead instantly.

Welp. That PC (above) died. One of the 'understoods' in the Minimal Reload Challenge rules/suggestions (first post in the thread) was common sense. After I thought about it Saturday, I realized that when my PC died, the whole party died with him. The idea behind the challenge is that the party agrees that the PC is worth raising and then makes the effort to get them to a priest or a priest to them.

Thus, there was no one who could carry his body to a temple to get it raised. That being the case there is no way to fantasize that he made it back to get raised. Therefore, He's toast.

I'm starting another, same name, different portrait. CKT

Yes good luck CKT. Btw, did you know you have a save right after your character is created and keep it (in front of Candlekeep Inn), you can use that to "restart" a failed no-reload. This is handy to give a promising PC a 2nd chance, and within the no-reload rules. I've restarted Picenon my solo fighter/thief several times using this method -- one of his attempts he even made it past Sarevok to BG 2 no reload. He couldn't get out of Irenicus dungeon though...

Thanks Corey. I didn't know that but I always save as soon as I start off before I take one step. Btw, for me, have the fun is making the new PC.

I'm gonna start my new PC over on the 'No-Reload' again and then, if necessary, bring him over here.

I'm changing from vanilla fighter to Cavalier (Templar Knight).

Ok very good. Here's some advice, do with what you will. When you do you no reload, you will soon find that really only certain areas require a good plan of attack, and if not the run can end (examples: Amazon assassins, Sendai and her archers, Khosann Tausgauz, Palace Fight, Final Battle, etc.). The rest can be almost breezed through (such as a pack of gibberlings). Once you are able to identify the key areas that require good tactics/strategy, and have a method that works, you will suddenly find your chance of doing a successful no reload will go up quite a bit.

I know for myself, I failed my no reloads about 7 times or so before I finally made it all the way through. The key is for any failed attempt, identify what you could do to avoid dieing in the encounter, so that you don't die to the same thing the next try.

Wow, its been awhile since I last posted. However, I've finally found some time to perhaps start a new Minimal Reload Challenge.

@CKT - Ouchies that you couldn't get Stanley back, and awesome that you've decided to try the No Reload Challenge! I wish you luck, and condolences.

I've done some changes since the last time. Alright, here we go.

Image IPB
Name: Soren
Alignment: Neutral Good.
class: Berserker.
Stats: Str - 18/12 Dex- 14 Con- 16 Int- 10 Wis- 18 Cha- 8
Proficiencies: ** Sword and Shield Style, ** Bastard Sword.
Mods(Pertinent(sp?) to BG1): BGT, BGSpawn, SCS, SCSII, Item Revisions, BG2Fixpack, W_Gui, ToBEx, BG1NPC and Music, BGQE, Xan Friendship, Coran Friendship, Ajantis Friendship, Ktweaks, BG2Tweaks, Atweaks, Rogue Rebalancing, Level1NPC, Gavin, Unfinished Business for BG1, Spell Revision, Wild Mage Additions, Song and Silence, Return to Trademeet Kits (I don't think anyone is using any...except for Korgan.), BGTTweaks, Wizard Slayer Revisions, 1PP/Avatar Fixes/Female Dwarves/Thieves Galore, NSC Portraits, Enkida's Portraits, BP Balancer, and the BP-BGT World Map.
Difficulty: Core Rules

Notes: I'm contemplating on dualing Soren to a cleric, due to a a component in ToBEx that lets all the other races dual too, but I won't do it if people think its wrong. However, I do believe thats as close to a Paladin as I can get without actually creating a human and switching it to an elf or what not. Also, I moved the difficulty up. Another thing, the 400 XP is from the Skipping Candlekeep Component.

Alright, I'll post more later, hopefully.

Edited: because apparently the Con was really 16 and not 14.

Glad to have you back Sapphire...

Good luck w/Soren.  I actually feel guilty not playing over here but the plan is bring any No-Reload failures over here to continue - unless of course, the entire party is wiped out in which case there would be no way of being resurrected since the assumption here is that the party decides your PC is worth raising from the dead.

I say that, because my last two party's have been wiped off the face of the earth so I could justify 'reloading' the PC with any sense that, 'yeah, that could happen!'

As for your 'contemplation' on dualing, I'm a traditionalist. The closer to AD&D p&p the better, so if my Dungeon Master would've let me do it then I'm okay with doing it here.  Whenever I load the mods I always devert back toward AD&D rules from the 'good old days'.

CKT

Thank you on both accounts.

Don't feel guilty, I just feel like I need some more practice before I go play with the big boys, and going from normal difficulty to Core Rules is definitely a start in the right direction.

Only reason I was contemplating that was because Aerie is a Cleric/Mage, and Deheriana from the Kivan mod can be a Fighter/Mage/Cleric. So I'm probably going to try to use my best judgement on that.

Update Time! Forgive me for the wall of text, and screenshots for the visual people.

Soren, a young male elf, had awoken in his bed at Candlekeep. He was doing his usual chores, until the afternoon, when Gorion had told him that he needed to get ready to leave due to some…unseen circumstances.

Soren went to the Candlekeep Inn where he spoke to some people. The first person that Soren talked to was Winthrop, the inn keeper, Winthrop told Soren that he may have to find a book that costs 5000 gold just to get back into Candlekeep. Soren had called Winthrop a kidder, and then bought some items.

The second person that Soren had talked to in the Inn was a woman named Linda. Linda cut off the arm of the man that she loved to save his life. Soren had said that he would talk to the man to see if he could help solve the problem.
Image IPB

The third person Soren talked to was Firebead Elvenhair. Firebead wanted a scroll of identify from one of the monks named Tethtoril, so Soren said that he would help Firebead out with that task as well.
Image IPB

Outside of the inn, the first person that Soren talked to was a woman named Phlyida, she wanted Soren to go find her book, which Soren obviously agreed to because who is going to help the poor old ladies out if not him?
Image IPB

Soren went into the Priest’s Quarters where a man named Shank tried to kill him! It was somewhat scary to have a random man just try to kill him for some reason that Soren doesn’t even know about. After that scary assassination attempt, Soren spoke with a monk named Parda. Parda told Soren to go equip himself immediately, and to meet Gorion.

Outside of the Barracks, Soren spoke with the farmhand, Dreppin. Dreppin said that Phlyida had left her book in the hay, and that his cow needed an antidote because it was sick. Soren returned the book to Phlyida and got a gem as a reward. Soren found Tethtoril as well to get the scroll of identify from him, and then he returned to Firebead and got his reward of, a healing potion, and Protection against evil.

Next, Soren talked to Reevor, and he told Soren to clear out a rat infested warehouse, which he did, and he got a five gold reward for doing that.

Soren spoke to Hull. Hull said that he needed his sword, and if Soren would go get his sword that Soren would get the antidote for Dreppin’s Cow. So, Soren obviously agreed to this.
Image IPB

Soren spoke to Sir Trun, and got him to take in Linda as his squire. Linda came to find Soren to tell him the great news on what had happened.

Soren entered the Bunkhouse, and found another assassin named Carbos. Soren had no problem dealing with the murderous wretch. Another monk named Karan checked up on Soren as well, he gave Soren the same message as Parda.

Fuller said that he needed some bolts, which Soren talked to a man named Fuller, and asked him if there was anything that he needed done, and he Soren got him some. Fuller called Soren a money grubber and gave him ten gold coins. Soren also took Hull’s sword and antidote.

Soren gave Hull his sword, and then Hull called Gorion a fool for trying to raise Soren right, but still gave Soren about ten gold. Then, Soren spoke to Dreppin and gave him the Antidote for his cow.

Soren spoke to his childhood friend, Imoen, and told her that he would ask Gorion to bring her along, but she said no. Soren spoke to Gorion after saying his farewells to everyone. Gorion told Soren that if anything were to happen he should go to the Friendly Arm Inn to meet some friends of Gorion’s named Khalid and Jaheira.

On the road, Soren and Gorion were ambushed by an armored figure. Gorion was killed, and Soren was left all alone, wondering why the armored figure was after him.
Image IPB

After the horrible events that had unfolded the night before, Imoen came and found Soren, and joined the party as well! Soren and Imoen went to go loot the bodies because well, Soren and Imoen didn’t really have anything. So, after they looted the bodies, Imoen asked if the body that they last looted was Gorion’s, to which Soren said yes, and that he was going to get the person who killed Gorion.

Soren and Imoen met someone on the road, telling them that there were some more people up the road. Soren hoped that it was the people that Gorion spoke about only a day before. These people weren’t the ones that Soren needed to find, but he needed help to get to the Friendly Arm Inn anyway so he took them along. Imoen asked Soren how he was doing, and he said that he was fine. Then, there was a man dressed in red, and Soren asked him for some directions to the Friendly Arm Inn. Soren found a man named Eldoth Kron, again Soren still needed help getting to the Friendly Arm Inn, so he decided to take him along, probably to only kick him out when he got to his destination.

There was another assassin awaiting Soren at the Friendly Arm Inn. Soren had gone berserk and it had saved him from the fear spells that were cast, and Imoen was too far out to be affected. So, Tarnesh was dealt with somewhat easily. Imoen found Tarnesh’s spellbook and decided to take it as her own. Soren told her to becareful because well, if anything happened to Imoen he would most likely be alone with a bunch of lunatics!

Soren finally found Khalid and Jaheira, and had them join the party almost instantly. Which meant that Eldoth, Montaron, and Xzar were kicked. Jaheira asked Soren where he was planning on burying Gorion, and Soren had said Candlekeep since it was their home.

Soren: Berserker - 1
Imoen: Adventurer - 1
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 1/1
Khalid - Fighter/Mage/Adventurer - 1/1/1

Reloads: 0

Note: I feel like I just played a "Lets play!" Game...Also, Khalid as a Fighter/Mage/Thief should be interesting. Another note, Thanks to Item Revisions, Khalid can wear Leather Armor, or Studded Leather Armor, but he takes a dunk in spell casting speed for doing so.

Good start Sapphire. I too am playing Khalid as a F/M/T (palying Jaheira straight Druid). When I looked at Khalid's basic stats I thought that F/M/T was a good fit so I adjusted them around to bring him to 16/16/15/16... He's up to 2/3/3 over on the NRC. The only difference I see is that I don't allow mages to wear armor so we had to use 'Shield' a lot early...and still do but now we've found Brc of def AC6 so they help tremndously. Of course now there's Dynaheir...

Good luck to Soren and party. My Paladin/Undead Hunter is going strong now but you never know.
