Yay! Welcome, Golgoth! :) Also, <3 Izzy. I can see him being all like "MAGIC MISSILE TO THE FACE!" Awesome, on the first update by the way.

I see vanilla BG, and what difficulty are you on by the way?

Soren had decided to explore the inn after resting, and he met a woman on the second floor named Unshey. She wanted Soren to go after an ogre to get a belt from it, and Soren accepted this task.
Image IPB

On the third floor of the inn, Soren spoke to a woman named Landrin. She wanted Soren to clear out her spider infested house near the Jovial Juggler, in Beregost. Soren also accepted this quest, now only to find where the Jovial Juggler was at.
Image IPB

Soren randomly entered a house with a woman named Joia in it. Apparently, some hobgobblins stole a ring from her, and again Soren decided to help, because if he didn’t help the little old ladies, then who would?
Image IPB

While trying to get the ring, Khalid ended up taking a dirt nap. (Somehow, a hobgoblin one-shotted him.) So, they had to go raise Khalid back up. Imoen started talking about adventures after getting back to the ring hunting. Soren wasn’t quite expecting this; then again he really didn’t have a choice. Soren returned the ring to Joia and didn’t get anything for a reward, which Soren was okay with.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Khalid hit the dirt nap again against two bandits. However, Soren decided to keep going forward instead of going back to bring Khalid back. Imoen rose up to level two as well. The group found the ogre, too bad Khalid wasn’t alive, oh well.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren, Imoen, and Jaheira went back to the Friendly Arm Inn, to raise Khalid, and to return the girdle of piercing, but Imoen decided she had to converse with Jaheira about how druids hate cities. Soren returned the girdle, and got 70 gold for it. Which were 10 gold for the belt, and 60 gold to go find the bath.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Imoen asked Khalid a question about the Harpers on the way to Beregost.
Image IPB

First thing that happened in Beregost, was that Imoen had to ask about what Soren thought of the place. It was okay to him, but he still preferred Candlekeep to this city, or any other city for that matter. After that, a man came up to Soren and gave him some directions to a good inn. It was now Jaheira’s turn to talk to Soren, except about what food would be good if you don’t have any seemed to be the topic. Hmm, Soren knew that some sort of insect would be best, but he decided to play along anyway and ask her. The group met a gnomish man named Tiax. Soren thought the man was quite crazy and refused to help him. Next, they met a man named Garrick, his mistress needed some help, and Soren can’t seem to resist the damsels in distress so he had to go help! However, this damsel was really a monster! She wanted Soren to kill innocent men. Silke was killed, but she kind of smacked Jaheira around too much, and made her morale break. So, Soren got his reward, and a new party member named Garrick for the time being.

Inside of Feldepost’s inn, a man named Marl told Soren’s group to leave. However, Soren wasn’t going to leave.
Image IPB

Soren went to Firebead’s House and spoke to him. He wanted a book, so Soren got the book and gave it to him! Soren got a book back, and leveled up in return! (And only got raised up like 3 HP….Damn you Core Rules! Hah.)
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren went into the Red Sheaf Inn, where another assassin was awaiting him. Trying to kill this guy was mildly difficult. (He one-shotted Jaheira (and she had 12 HP), and sent Khalid into a Morale break, as well as nearly killing Soren a couple of times. However, Imoen’s wand of magic missile saved the day! Now I just need to go find another one.) After killing a man, Imoen thought it would be pretty awesome to ask Garrick if he knew any romance stories.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Outside of the temple, the group met a priest of Lathander named Gavin, and decided to bring him along because, yeah they’re going to need all the help that they could get. After her rising, Jaheira said that it was time to go to Nashkel. Oh well, time to stop dilly dallying like the woman says.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

On the way to Nashkel, some Flaming Fist Mercenaries tried to arrest Soren for being a bandit, but Soren told the man that they weren’t bandits. Garrick wanted Soren’s opinion on his Music, and Soren thought that the bard did sing well. Jaheira asked Garrick if he knew that Silke was going to kill those poor men, and obviously Garrick didn’t because he wouldn’t have helped Silke if he did. Gavin also introduced himself properly to Soren. Then, the group came across a half orc going to Baldur’s Gate, which neither party wanted trouble so they went their separate ways. The group came across a woman named Shar-Teel, Soren thought she was crazy too, and decided to just blow her off. Khalid took another dirt nap on the way to Nashkel, those bandits do not seem to like him. Next, Soren’s group found a guy that was from some city in the north. Imoen asked if they would go up that far north and Soren would hope that fortune would favor that. Then, the group made it to Nashkel.

Soren: Berserker - 2
Imoen: Adventurer - 2
Jaheira: Fighter/Totemic Druid - 1/1
Khalid: Fighter/Mage/Adventurer - 1/1/1
Garrick: Bard - 2
Gavin: Priest of Lathander - 2

Reloads: 0

Notes: Core Rules, makes things much more difficult. Haha. I have a feeling that my reload counter is gonna go up. Also, I think at level 4 I might dual Soren into a Cleric. Also, Imoen asking for a romance story after Jaheira has to be one of the funniest things ever. Haha.

Edit: Formatting went to crap, and photobucket liked to switch pictures around. Ha.

Update 2:
After watching Gorin be killed, Izzy is out on his own for the rest of his travel to the woods. Once there Iomen catches up to him and decides to join his party.

Image IPB

They travel along the road for a while and then they come accross two interesting characters, ones a thief and the other is a mage. They talk to them and decide that they will help them get where they need to go but only if they help him reach the Friendly Amn Inn.

Image IPB

They travel to a new area and they meet a strange old man who seems to know quite a few things about recent events involving izzy.

Image IPB

They rest for a while to get Izzy's health to full, and they walk along the road a ways until they are attacked by an Xvart. They kill him and take the drops.

Image IPB

They continue down the road some more until they come across two gilberlings, which attack izzy and make him fall unconcious, luckily, his party members kill the gibberlings before they can kill him.

Image IPB

They rest again, trying to get Izzy's health up, but while they are resting they are attacked again by two gibberlings, they kill the gibberlins, and Izzy still lives. (I was stressing out a bit due to how low his health was.)

Image IPB

They travel some more and reach the Friendly Amn Inn.

Image IPB

Party configureations: Izzy, iomen, Martron and Xzar.

I'm really happy to see this still going. It's getting close to summer break (only nine more weeks!), and I'm thinking I might like to do another minimal reload game this summer like I did last summer, in honor of the new Baldur's Gate that's in development.

Where is the minimal reload challenge in the BG2 forum? I didn't see it on the first three pages. Have we dwindled a bit to where there's nobody playing at the BG2 level right now?

@SapphireIce, I see you've kept playing pretty much for the whole school year, and I've been reading your character updates. Keep the flame burning, man, you're doing a great job. :)

Hookay, I can't wait. Entering a new character now:

Image IPB

My new alt will be a Star Wars inspired Inquisitor, following the ethos of Yoda and the Jedi. I know that I could make it a little more congruous with the Forgotten Realms world if I change everything around so that he worships an FR deity and was truly following FR lore, but for convenience's sake, please indulge me and let me say that he uses "the Force", fights with a "lightsaber", and was trained by "Master Yoda". Please also indulge me in saying that he will eventually discover that "Darth Sarevok" is his brother, and that he will attempt to redeem said long lost relative in ToB by taking him into his party.

This guy is extremely uncomfortable with the use of magic/"the Force" for attack, and will attempt to rein in his mage and cleric proteges from using attack magic of any kind, because he believes that they will fall to "the darkside" if they do so with any regularity.

Also, he has "been around the block" a few times, and would have been content to live out his life in Candlekeep as a Jedi/Paladin instructor if Master Gorion had not suddenly forced him one fateful night into a worlds-spanning and quite involuntary epic adventure.

Since it is still spring term at work IRL, and I am still working hard, and since my limited playtime comes at the end of very long days which leave me very, very tired, sometimes I will post reports in narrative form when I feel like it, but other times, I will give very brief summaries in abbreviated form.

Thank you, SapphireIce, for being such a good friend and such a devoted keeper of this thread.

EDIT
after a few more precious late-night minutes of playtime:

Okay, here's the abbreviated stuff:
Took Monty and Xzar, defeated Tarnesh, entered Friendly Arms, dismissed Monty and Xzar.

Here's what narrative I feel like, in the form of a personal journal:

Journal, Day 1:

My world has been turned upside down! Master Gorion bade me to accompany him outside the walls of Candlekeep on an urgent mission. We were almost immediately beset by an armored Sith! He was enormously powerful in the Darkside, more powerful than I have ever encountered in my considerable years as a Jedi!

Master Gorion ordered me to flee. I could feel that I had no chance against this particular SIth, and yet, I also felt strangely.... attracted? .... to him? Nevertheless, I know better than to disobey any order from Master Gorion. As I ran into the surrounding woods, I looked back to see Master Gorion battle the Sith Lord. The night air was lit with lightsabers flashing, blue Force Lightning, Gorion's Force Shields glowing, Force-hurled objects flying, the Sith's four companions falling (how uncivilized to bring five against two!), yet finally, Master Gorion falling in a shower of red lightsaber sparks! I almost screamed in grief, but I immediately heard Master Gorion's voice through the Force, calmly telling me to "Run, Master Todd!" I knew that Master Gorion was okay, in the way that fallen good Jedi always are, so I ran!

Shortly later, while finding my way through the woods in search of the allies Master Gorion had told me to find in the Friendly Arms Inn, I encountered none other than that incorrigible scamp (I really want to say "brat", but I don't want to be unkind to a child), Imoen. She had found letters of Gorion's to Master Elminster intimating this "adventure" to come, and she actually snuck out of Candelkeep to follow us! <Sigh> I will have to bring her with me and protect her.

We met two unsavory characters along the road, but I had seen through the Force that we would need them for a short time. So I brought them with us while nudging their weak minds a bit with the Force to convince them that we were desirous of the same ends as theirs.

Outside the Friendly Arms, we encountered a strange-looking man striding down the steps toward us with nefarious intent in his eyes. He was very strong with the Darkside. I had foreseen this. I ordered my now four-member party to attack him immediately. He fell easily, but I knew that I had only through the Sight averted a disaster, because my Force-inspired vision had shown him using the Darkside to Cloak, panic us all with Fear, and then kill every one of us including me with huge chunks of rock and granite Force-hurled from the towers, and even pulled up from the ground! I still shudder when I think about what could have been! I continue to do my deep-breathing and meditation exercises several times a day, hoping to get more visions like the one that saved me here.

Inside the inn, I released Montaron and Xzar from my Force-persuasion, and began looking about with my eyes and my feelings for the allies that Master Gorion had promised would be here....

Update Friday night 3/16:

-Killed ogre, returned belt
-Went to Beregost, killed Silke, guy in Red Sheaf (Gurke?)
-Killed ogrillons, got RoP +1
-Recovered boots for the little guy
-Went to High Hedge to get spells for Imoen, SK'd to multiclass MT. Got Perdue's shortsword
-Convinced Jaheira that Khalid was much better off staying safe at the FAI
-Picked up Gavin at the Morningsong Temple
-Went to Nashkel, picked up Minsc, entered inn and killed priestess. Inquisitor Hold immunity VERY helpful here

Current Party:
Todd, level 2 inquisitor
Imoen, level 2 thief/level 1 mage
Jaheira, level 2 druid/level 2 fighter
Gavin, level 3 cleric
Minsc, level 2 ranger

reloads: 0

EDIT: Forgot to say last night that we also killed the spiders in Unshey's house in Beregost and returned her belongings to the FAI. Imoen's new Sleep spell got three spideys, making the battle easy. Inquisitor charisma netted a whole bunch of antidote potions from Unshey.

@Belgarath - Thank you! I went and did some digging for the BG2 Minimal Reload Challenge, and thats actually on page two. Also, I've been mostly doing these during my breaks. Considering that Spring Break is coming up soon, but I'm going to be soo torn between this and Mass Effect 3. Good luck, and have fun with your inquisitor! I've also found a way to keep my story a wee bit more accurate. Write it in Microsoft Office while playing. :)

Update time!

First thing Soren’s group did in Nashkel was bring Khalid back to life. …Alright, it was really the third thing that they did. First person that Soren’s group encountered wanted to know who they were so Soren offered his services to help the town. The second person that the group talked to was Berrun Ghastkill. He told Soren of the trouble in the mines and Soren decided that he had to help!
Image IPB
Image IPB

After reviving Khalid, Soren decided to rest at the temple, because it is cheaper to do it in the temple, and two they won’t kick a person out. Imoen noticed that Soren had a dream, and Soren told her about it.
Image IPB

Soren led his group to the Nashkel Inn, where there was another assassin awaiting him. She was not a pushover; she had held Soren, Garrick, and Gavin. She even sent Khalid into a Morale Break. (And somehow Gavin’s Armor broke even though he wasn’t even getting hit. Hah.) After she was dead, Imoen asked what that was about and Soren explained that it was another assassin that was after him.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren spoke to a man named Oublek; he had mistaken him for Greywolf, and tried to give Soren the bounty. However, Soren told the man that he was mistaken, and got thanked for it. Then, Soren met a man named Minsc, he was trying to save a woman named Dynaheir, so Soren had to say yes. This in turn, caused Minsc to join the group, and then Soren sent Garrick to the Friendly Arm Inn.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren went into a house, asking a woman if she had any information on the mines. The woman told Soren that her husband worked in the mines, so Soren decided to help the woman, by retrieving him or his greenstone ring.
Image IPB

Near the Nashkel Mines, a man named Prism mistakenly called Soren, Greywolf. However, Soren corrected him. To which Prism said that he needed a guard, to protect him from the real Greywolf while he finishes his sculpture of the elven queen, Ellesime. So, Soren accepted that job, and as soon as he did Greywolf showed up. So, Soren and Greywolf battled each other one to collect the bounty the other to save the work of art Prism was trying to create. Gavin got one-shotted. After that Prism basically committed suicide. (This is where my first reload happened. First time, Khalid and Jaheira got one-shotted, and then I put on Berserk with Minsc and Soren. However, it wasn’t enough. This time I used Jaheira’s totemic pet thing. So, time to go donate 200 gold, and paying another 200 to resurrect Gavin. Hah. Oh, and Imoen went up a level!) First thing the group did was go bring back Gavin.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren turned in the emeralds and that caused Jaheira to level up. Well, the druid part of her to level up anyway.
Image IPB

On the way to save Dynaheir, a messenger showed up for Gavin, saying that we had to go back to Beregost to complete a task of his. However, Soren thought that saving a maiden was more important than going back to Beregost. Khalid bit the dust again.
Image IPB
Image IPB

At the Dryad Falls, Jaheira just bit the dust. Then, Gavin went next. Next, Khalid went. Lastly, Minsc went.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren went back to the temple and raised the fallen, then Khalid read a scroll, and Jaheira and Soren leveled up!
Image IPB
Image IPB

On the way back to the Dryad Falls, Khalid, Gavin, and Minsc leveled up!
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

At the Dryad Falls, a Dryad needed some help dealing with some bullies! So, Soren decided that he needed to help out! The people trying to harm the tree wanted Soren to join in, but Soren refused and a fight ensued. Soren’s group came across a gnoll from the stronghold; however, the gnoll said that they were going to eat Dynaheir. This, in turn, sent Minsc into a fury! Jaheira ended up biting the dust again, but that was mostly Minsc’s fault because he one-shotted her whilst in berserk!
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

On the bridge outside of the gnoll stronghold, some giants wanted Soren to pay to cross, but Soren refused to pay.  Jaheira bit the dust first in the Gnoll Stronghold. Imoen leveled up after defeating a Carrion Crawler. Jaheira and Khalid leveled up after Khalid learned another new spell. After fighting a lot of gnolls, Gavin leveled up! After Khalid reading a bunch of scrolls, Soren leveled up, and dualed to cleric, Jaheira, Minsc, and Khalid also leveled up. Soren found Dynaheir, and accepted her into the party, sending Gavin back to the Temple at Beregost. Also, Dynaheir wanted to go looking for her journal.

Minsc: Berserker - 4

Note: I think the funniest thing to happen was Minsc going berserk and one-shotting Jaheira. Also, as I keep learning, Core Rules is -not- a walk in the park like normal mode.

@Corey, thanks for the well wishes

@Sapphire, good to see you back, even if only briefly before you go to ME3. LOL on your comment about core rules! I always use core rules, because it's what I grew up with in high school playing tabletop D&D. It is indeed much harder than so-called "normal".  I LOVE your interface and portraits! I especially like the softer Jaheira and the black Minsc with hair (with bald area where he had his injury) and beard. Would you mind posting some links to those materials? I'm glad to see some one else playing with Gavin. I love that guy!

There was an interesting battle near the bridge to the north of the gnoll keep.

We were approaching the bridge from the east, and encountered the bandit group. Gavin got all five hobgoblins with a well-placed Hold Person. We finished the head guy, and then took out the hobbies at our leisure.

We continued moving west, and almost immediately stumbled upon the bridge and the first ogre berserker. I tanked the ogre berserker (OB), while Imoen cast Sleep onto the bridge - she only got one hobbie, and a second OB off screen. The OB that was on me kept hitting me despite ankegh armor and AC -5, and I had already had to use five healing potions. I decided we'd better get the sleepers before they woke up.

I ran around my OB opponent and ordered my party to concentrate fire on the sleepers. The second OB died (whew). The second poison arrow hobbie died, and I saw him wake up and stand at the beginning of that round right before (whew). I ordered attack on the last standing hobbie while the OB was still whaling on me. Got him.

That OB must have been really mad! I got hit once, drank a potion, immediately got hit again. I started running. Gavin did one of his scripted Cures on me as I ran past him. We scattered. Gavin got hit. Gavin ran. Now we were finally out in an open area where we could do the scatter-and-kill-with-ranged tactic. The OB FINALLY died.

As I said, a very interesting battle, and very costly in healing potions. I'm not sure how my setup has scaling happening, but we had just run away on a previous map from a party consisting of an ogre berserker, and ogre, an ogrillon, and two gnolls. The southwest Cloudpeaks is very strong with the Darkside, this run, it seems. Image IPB

-rescued Dynaheir, got her journal from Drizzt and the good gnolls.

-decided to get Bassilus, Gavin's first quest, hammer +2, yada, yada, yada, on the way back to Nashkel/Beregost.

Gavin cast Silence on Bassilus, it worked, nothing else to see here, folks. Gavin's Turn Undead helped enormously against the crossbow skellie army. Imoen and Dynaheir had to do some running for their lives, but we got through with "only" heavy injuries.

Gavin will use the Hammer +2 for now.

Auugh! I just had the mother of all close calls!

First:

-I have helped the archaeologists and rescued Commander Brage from the Southern Sword Coast area.
-I have switched Jaheira out for Branwen, mostly just so I can enjoy her NPC Project lines. I've heard Jaheira's already, multiple times.
-I obtained the +2 longsword from Greywolf. I will use it myself.
-I have completed the Nashkel Mines mission. Mulahey fell to a Hold Person cast by Gavin. It's nice to be able to have my supporting clerics cast Hold Person without having to worry about getting caught in the spell radius.

The trouble started when I decided to shortcut out of the Nashkel Mines into the southeast Dragonmaw pass. I knew from "the Force" that there was a powerful team of evil SIth guarding the exit, but I thought we could take them .

I was almost toast! One of them got me with a Rigid Thinking. Why doesn't charm protection protect against that spell? I suspect that many of my eventual reloads will be because of Rigid Thinking. I'm not even sure if Chaotic Commands stops it as it should.

My party managed to save me - Dynaheir had recently learned Web, and cast one over the area. It caught me a time or two, but it didn't matter much since it also caught the two dark archers. Gavin's Hold Person failed against the dark archers, but got the second cleric, who had escaped from the Web. The Web actually failed several times against the dark archers - those dark archers must have really high saves vs. spells!

I think I was down to one hit point! A very close call!

Todd - Level 4 Inquisitor
Gavin - Level 4 Cleric
Branwen - Level 4 Cleric
Minsc  - Level 4 Ranger
Dynaheir - Level 4 Sorceress
Imoen - Level 3 Thief/Level 3 Mage

Reloads: 0 (ha, I'm starting to wonder how much longer that will last!)

The rigid thinking is basically confusion. Only way to "stop" it really is to have very low saves or some kind of magic resistance. Chaotic Commands should defend against that though. But in order for a cleric to cast it they must be level 9, which is above the BG 1 experience cap...

Grats on surviving though.

@Corey, thanks. Rigid thinking is a level 3 spell. Clerics can cast it at level 5. They can and do cast it with great frequency in BG1, unfortunately. It gets even worse in BG2. And I'm pretty sure I've gotten it cast on me with CC active.

@Belgarath - The Interface is from W_Gui, I'm starting to make it one of those necessary mods that you have to have. Haha.www.shsforums.net/files/file/990-w-gui/

Some of the portraits come from Enkida's portrait pack, I like the longer hair Jaheira, and Minsc, I also like how Imoen's hair is short. Also, theres Jude Law as Xan. I say Jude Law actually fits Xan than he does the other people hes used for though. Lol. I heard that version two is supposed to come out soon, which in V2, its supposed to have a new portrait for Gavin, a new portrait for Kivan, The guy who played Edward in the Twilight movies(Ewww, Twilight. I tried reading the first book, but it wasn't gonna happen, and I'll never watch the movies unless I end up going to my aunt's house and shes watching them.) being Tsujatha.www.shsforums.net/files/file/993-enkidas-portrait-pack/

Soren went to the carnival, and he entered a tent to only find that there was a woman being held hostage by a crazy man! Soren somewhat knew that if he said something wrong that the woman would die, so he tried to play it smoothly, but a battle ended up ensuing anyway. Soren saved the woman and asked if she had any magical trinkets, and she did. So, she gave the trinkets to Soren.
Image IPB
Image IPB

The next thing that happened at the carnival was that a man was selling a scroll for 500 gold, except this scroll was to save a woman from her stone prison. However, Jaheira hit the man and took the scroll for free! Soren freed Branwen, and accepted her to the party, however, Soren just sent her to the Friendly Arm Inn.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren headed north to Beregost, again. He entered a house and spoke to a Mirianne, and giving her a scroll that he found on the road. For a reward he got a ring.
Image IPB

Soren’s group headed back south, and came across some worgs, and defeated them. Imoen leveled up after that fight! After another fight with some worgs, Soren leveled up!
Image IPB
Image IPB

The group headed north and found a…drow elf fighting gnolls?! Soren decided that this person probably needed some help, so he decided to help out. The drow introduced himself as Drizzt Do’Urden. Wow! Soren just met one of the greatest people in Faerun, however, there was still no sign of Dynaheir’s journal.
Image IPB
Image IPB

A day later, Drizzt came back, and this time with a scroll from the gnolls. Except, the writing was in Dynaheir’s  hand. After a fight with some hobgoblins, some ‘good’ gnolls showed up to warn us that someone was after Dynaheir. Sometime after the good gnolls showed up, Drizzt came back, found Dynaheir’s journal, and gave it back to Dynaheir.

Soren’s group found a caravan of dead people. However, a woman was protecting a man named Brage. Soren thought that he should pity said man. So, Soren spoke to Brage, and answered his riddle. Then, he took Brage to Helm’s temple in Nashkel, and got an one thousand gold reward.
Image IPB

The group went back to where they were at, and spoke to a man named Charleston Nib. He was excavating something from some ruins. Then, a part of Nib’s spoke of killing Nib just to get a valuable treasure, and that in turn wasn’t really in Soren’s blood. However, once inside of the ruins, and near some tomb, the diggers in Nib’s company started to go crazy, and Soren had to kill them. Which, Soren knew that he probably shouldn’t take the totem of Kozah out of the ruins, but he could imagine himself getting a pretty penny for it. Soren took the totem, and left only to run into some sort of guardian. Hmm, maybe taking the totem was a bad idea after all, oh well. After defeating the doomsayer, Soren leveled up! After fighting a panther, Jaheira’s druid side leveled up.

On the way back to Nashkel, Soren’s group got ambushed by some Winter wolves, and this caused Khalid’s fighter side to level up.

Note: Tiny update, but hey, at least its something? Hah. Also, lets hope that nothing bad happens to Soren because of that idol of Kozah.

Great update, Sapphire; it's not "tiny" at all. Thanks for the links. I have the new interface and the new portraits installed now.

Here's my update for Monday night, 3/19/2012:

-Gave the dagger back to the revenant
-Told the gnome green slime mad scientist that I wanted no part of his idiocy
-Picked up Samuel
-Stopped in Beregost on the way back to the FAI. Told Bjorn that we had long ago killed his half-ogre nemeses. Talked to little girl and Elminster.
-Sold some bandit scalps to Officer Vai.
- Finally presented the holy symbol of Bassilus to the Morningsong Temple.
-Started a romance with Branwen by listening sympathetically to her story of gender discrimination in the North, among the people of Tempus. (This is fascinating to me - I usually play mages and clerics in BG1, and so I have never gotten to access this material from the NPC Project before now.)
-noticed that my romance in progress with Dynaheir appears to be broken, unless I am stuck on an unknown status dialogue (camping outdoors, in an inn, etc.) Does she automaticallly lose interest if a warrior's romance with Branwen triggers?
-Returned Samuel to the FAI
-Went back to Beregost and dealt with Tranzig. Enjoyed Branwen's interjections. This battle is ridiculously easy without SCS difficulty increases turned on. (I tried SCS difficulty once. Stoppped after getting party wiped by kobolds casting Sleep spells and spiders casting Web spells. Don't even get me started on SCS mages.  Image IPB)
-Slept at Felpost's, and will resume this latest exciting adventure of our heroes next play session, same bat-time, same bat-channel. (And I will give a huge no-prize to anybody who gets that reference. And who also knows what a "no-prize" is, and who created the term, and where the reference comes from. Image IPB)

Keep up the nice progress Belgarath, and I have no idea where -that- comes from.

Update time!

Soren went to the mines, and spoke to Emerson. Soren said that he would clear the mines out.
Image IPB

Inside of the mines, Soren spoke to a man named Gord, and Gord told Soren about the mines, or rather what he needed to know about the mines. Soren spoke to another miner, who asked Soren to bring a knife to a man named Kylee, and Soren thought that Kylee would need his knife in order to survive with the current threat.
Image IPB
Image IPB

On the second level, Soren spoke to a miner, however he ran toward some kobolds and died. Soren found Kylee, and gave him back his dagger. Soren also got some additional information about the mines for giving Kylee his dagger. Soren found a mysterious vial of liquid he thought he may need that for a wee bit later.
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

On the last level of the mines, Soren encountered a half orc named Mulahey, and battle quickly ensued. Mulahey yielded, and tricked Soren, but Soren wasn’t going to go down easily! Mulahey was killed, but then Khalid spoke to Soren about the bandits. Soren came across an elven man named Jude Law Xan, and invited him to join the cause, and then sent him to the Friendly Arm Inn!
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren spoke to Emerson again, to tell him that the mine was clear. Emerson, however, told Soren to go speak to Berrun Ghastkill for a reward.
Image IPB

First thing that Soren did when he returned to Nashkel, was giving a ring back to Joseph’s widow. Soren spoke to Berrun, and gave him a vial of the mysterious liquid, and got his reward. Dynaheir also leveled up! The next person Soren spoke to in Nashkel, was Nimbul, and apparently he was an assassin. He was difficult to dispatch, but he was still dead in the end. (I had to reload because of a well placed fireball. Lol.)

Note: Apparently, the idol of Kozah is bad juju. Image IPB *points at reload counter* Also, for her 2nd level spells, Dynaheir is using Mirror Image, and Horror. I could have chosen Web, but I hate Web and Entangle Spells...Makes me wish I had the boots from IWD that make you immune to it. Hah.

You know SaphireIce you could always just pick-pocket Dushai in Ulgoth's Beard (enlist Garrick's help) her free action ring. Then your tank could care less about web!

Thanks for the advice Corey! I would totally do it, but I installed a component that won't let me go to Ulgoth's Beard unless I go to the west of Wyrm's Crossing. Imoen did get some leather armor that makes her immune to entangle though.

Update time again!

Soren headed north to Beregost, and met the man in the red again, except he introduced himself as Elminster! Wow! Another famous person! Then, Soren met a little girl that told him that an officer Vai wanted to speak with him in the Jovial Juggler.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren went to the Jovial Juggler and spoke to officer Vai. Soren was honored that someone like her would want to talk to a mere adventurer like him. Vai wanted Soren to deal with the Bandit threat, and pay him for scalps as well.
Image IPB

Soren cleared out a spider infested house, he is probably going to tell the person that he cleared it out.

Soren went to Feldepost’s Inn, spoke with a mage that probably knew something about the bandit attacks, and then battle ended up ensuing. He went down easily, probably because Minsc had turned on his berserking charm. Now, it was time to head up north some more.
Image IPB

However, before Soren could head up north he was ambushed by some Amazons. Soren finished off the Amazons and leveled up!
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren went north to the Friendly Arm Inn and told Landrin that he cleared her house out of all the spiders, and gave her the items that he had taken from her house.
Image IPB

Out in the Peldvale, Soren met a man who gave him some advice on adventuring. He told Soren to go to the Firewine Bridge. Then, Soren met the bandits he was looking for, and came to a quick decision that he should try to join them so then he doesn’t have to try to fight his way through an army, or at least what he probably thought was an army.
Image IPB
Image IPB

At the bandit camp, Soren managed to convince Tazok to let him join the bandits. Now it would probably be easier to move around without getting attacked, which was an advantage to Soren.
Image IPB

Soren entered Tazok’s tent, and a battle ensued, hopefully none of the bandits from outside would hear, or enter the tent. After the battle in the tent, Khalid’s mage side and thief side leveled up. Soren spoke to Ender Sai, and Ender gave Soren some information. Soren let Ender free after he told his information. After reading some scrolls from a chest, Minsc leveled up!
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Upon exiting the tent, Soren’s group came across another set of assassins, and some very hostile bandits. Apparently, today wasn’t Soren’s day. After all that was over with, Soren looted thebodies, and Jaheira’s fighter side leveled up!
Image IPB
Image IPB
Image IPB

Soren went back to the Friendly Arm Inn, and spoke with Elminster, and he said that Soren was on the correct path, but Soren still needed to head further south to tell Vai that the bandits were taken care of.
Image IPB

Soren went back to the Jovial Juggler, and told Vai, and she said that she had to go back to the city because she had been ordered to.
Image IPB

Soren: Berserker > Cleric - 4 > 4
Imoen: Adventurer - 5
Jaheira: Fighter/Totemic Druid - 344
Khalid: Fighter/Mage/Adventurer - 3/3/4
Minsc: Berserker - 5
Dynaheir: Invoker - 3

Reloads: 2

Note: No reloads! Yay! Maybe its getting easier? I'm going to doubt that though. Also, as stated above, Imoen got some armor from the Amazons that makes her immune to entangle. I still hate Web, and Entangle though.

@Sapphire, Web is good. Web can save your life. Web is your friend!

The trick is to notice a large group or party that is very dangerous, one you know can kill you, and as soon as you do, pull back your melee fighters and have them switch to ranged weapons. Have your mage cast the spell, approximately into the center of the enemy party. If they can do so with the enemy just off screen, or from a state of invisibility, so much the better. Then pick off the enemy at your leisure with bows. Don't use short range weapons like darts, as they will make the thrower walk into the web.

The center point of the spell is very important, so it may take a litlle practice to get it right. A good rule of thumb is that the area of effect is going to be very large, approximately one-fourth of your entire screen space. It is the same as a fireball's area of effect, so you can learn what the radius of the Web will be by studying the area of Fireballs when they go off.

This powerful spell amounts to a Mass Hold Person, which casts itself over and over at the beginning of every round! I can't count the number of times it has saved my life. It's one of the best spells in the game, at least through about the middle to middle-end of SoA, when saves vs. spells get too high for it to be effective.

Update, Wednesday 3/21/2012:

-Completed the Ulcaster Ruins map. Total cakewalk. Dynaheir will use the Wand of Fireballs.
-Heard of Hobbits in Horror in a lost settlement to the East. Followed leads to find them. Discovered the Firewine Bridge Ruins. Knew the Hobbits in Horror were to the North. Came into their map at the south end, sensed Sith. Confronted the Sith. Enjoyment ensued. Very interesting battle.

We confront. Dynaheir casts Web, Branwen casts Hold on the cleric, Gavin casts Hold on the Mage. Gavin, Minsc, Branwen, and I pull back to stay out of the Web.
Image IPB

They manage to get a Stinking Cloud placed !

Image IPB

We pull back, and Dynaheir casts a second Web! Minsc and Imoen fall to the Stinking Cloud! Minsc makes a save and gets out, but Imoen falls despite our concentrating fire on her attacker!

Image IPB

We move to the south of the AoE mayhem. The remaining two Sith follow us. Branwen gets a Hold on one of them. We win the battle.

-Because Imoen has been killed (really, injured critically into a coma), we will have to backtrack away from the poor Hobbits in Horror and return to the Morningsong Temple to have her raised before we can offer any aid. I hope that the poor Hobbits in Horror will be able to hold out against their attackers. I was there long enough to sense huge numbers of Kobold Droids. But there is a much greater evil behind them. Stay tuned for further reports - at least, I hope that the Jedi Council in Candlekeep is receiving these reports.

OOC  (out of character) - I am finding Branwen's NPC Project material to be absolutely charming, and she has most excellent banter with Dynaheir. I'm pretty sure that my paying attention to her has broken my romance with Dynaheir, though. If anyone has never played with Branwen, I strongly recommend it. She is a sexy, charming, playful, and powerful Viking wench!

Todd - Inquisitor level 5
Gavin - Cleric level 5
Branwen - Cleric level 5
Minsc - Ranger level 5
Dynaheir  - Sorceress level 5 - learned Identify and Mirror Image
Imoen - Thief level 4/Mage level 3

Keep up the nice work, Belgarath, ouchies on Imoen dying though.

Update time!

In Cloakwood, Soren spoke to a man that needed some protection from the druids. So, Soren decided to help the man out. Then the druids came up, and Jaheira offered to help the druids with their Shadow Druid problem. Soren decided that he should help as well, so now, Soren was helping druids. The man that needed protecting went to Baldur’s Gate. Soren found an elven man named Coran, he was hunting wyverns, so Soren said yes, but then sent Coran to the Friendly Arm Inn.
Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB

Next, Soren came across a man who needed to find his brother, so Soren decided to help out this man. After fighting some ettercaps, Dynaheir leveled up! Soren, then found a den of spiders, and an ugly thing in the center of the room, hopefully Chelak was here somewhere. After that battle, Imoen leveled up! Soren also found Chelak’s corpse and gave it to his brother.
Image IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPB

Soren came across a Shadow Druid that said that he wasn an enemy of the Iron throne. Soren found another set of Shadow Druids, and battle ensued, but they were killed somewhat easily. Next, Soren found the Archdruid, and killed him. Soren found Beador, and Jaheira healed him too. Next, it was time to save Maretha. Soren leveled up after all of this, and regained his Berserker abilities as well!
Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB

Then, Soren’s group went back to the treehouse, and found the person who was really turning people to the ways of the Shadow. However, they let him go, and then they entered the house, freed Maretha, and went back to Senyiad to tell him that Maretha and Beador were saved!

OOC - okay, so I didn't have much time to play today, but I got the "Hobbits in Horror" quest done, i.e. the Gullykin map. And I got to have a totally nail-biting awesome battle to boot!

IC  - Curse my overconfidence! The Jedi Saint Skywalker once said to the infamous Darth Sidious, "Your overconfidence is your weakness!" I fear I may be succumbing to the same thing! Upon entering the Hobbit village, I was told by their leader to enter under their temple to confront the Sith who lead the KoboldDroid army against them. However, I sensed through the Force that there was another way.

I followed my feelings to the basement of one of the Hobbit huts that radiated darkside. Upon entering there, we encountered a fellow who was consumed by the darkside. I tried to placate him, but he attacked us! That poor fool. He had no chance. I wish I could have saved him.

There was a secret door going further down from the basement, easily detected by Imoen. I drank potions of Oil of Speed, Absorption, and Heroism, thinking to go down and face the Sith I sensed directly below myself. The potions would have protected me, or so I thought. My misguided padawans however, refused to let me go down to face the Sith by myself. I'm not sure whether they were right. I THINK I would have gotten through this just fine alone. I suppose I will never know, since my five padawans refused to obey my order to stay safe above.

The second of the most powerful Sith was waiting for us as soon as we entered his chamber. He immediately cast Force Confusion, and it enveloped all of us except for that poor child, Imoen! I don't understand why my ability with the Force did not protect me. I will have to discuss this with my mentors on the Jedi Council.

Even Confused, I easily killed Darth Ogre Mage, who was unfortunately the least of our worries after his final act was to Confuse us. The ruling Darth was concealed invisibly just a bit down the hallway, and he started casting Force Lightning! Thank the Force I had consumed that Potion of Absorption, or I would not be making this report, as my entire party and I would be dead now.

My poor, Confused party, and the Force Lightning bouncing off the walls, killed each other in short order. I only stayed alive through the Potion of absorption. Imoen stayed alive through her quickness, tumbling and darting about like a Jedi. I also notice that she resisted the Force Confusion. I must reevaluate that girl as a potential Jedi Knight.

At the end, Imoen and I remained standing, but every padawan had fallen. We collected and carried their bodies and their gear the best we could, with only two of us, but most unfortunately, we had to leave Dynaheir's Crossbow of Speed behind. We returned a bit later, upon raising and healing our fallen padawans, but the Crossbow Blaster was gone. We will have to try to find another Blaster for Dynaheir.

Hmm, Firewine Ruins claims more dead. But one thing though -- I'm not sure why you had to leave anything behind. There are containers in the evil hobbit's room -- was there really no way to put stuff in there and get the stuff after resurrections? Even with your haste potion active?

@Corey, I'm not sure. I wouldn't have risked losing the Crossbow of Speed if I had seen it, but Dynaheir's body was hidden somewhere in a corner, and frankly, I just missed it and forgot about it until I got everybody raised and realized the Crossbow was gone.

Doesn't equipment left on dead party members erase when you leave a dungeon map? Or was it walking out the door of the hut upstairs that erased it? If the stuff was going to stay down in the dungeon while I went up and put some of it in the containers in the hut, then you're right, I could have saved it that way.

Oh well, live and learn. It still amazes me that these battles are so complex that I can still be learning new things after all these years of playing.

@Belgarath: stuff you leave on the ground that isn't quest related, stays there for about 1.5 days. So yes you could have got to the hobbits room, put your junk in a container, came back and got the rest. But I see you said you forgot about it, too bad. Also, though, there's a temple in the hobbit village. You could resurrect, heal and come back without taking 1.5 days.

But like you say, live and learn.
