I’ve learned once again never to let my guard down out here. At any moment, evil can emerge & bring tragedy. Just as we were returning to the Nashkel Inn to recuperate & take some nourishment we were attacked, yet again, by an assassin. We’d beaten him, or so I thought, when I was blasted with one too many of the missiles in his Magic Missile. Once again, my honorable followers got me to Nalin @ the Temple of Helm. Then they got me to the Nashkel Inn where I rested. Fate was with me, I suppose, because when we emerged from the Inn my assassin was still about. I guess he felt he had nothing to fear & had been spending some of his bounty @ the belching Dragon. The second time I met him, it didn’t go as well…for him.

Key Event:Nonetheless, I’ve finished running down the secret of the mines. Four levels of constant pin-pricking Kobold attacks led us to the master of the operation, Mulahey, a Half-Orc Cleric. We fought a long battle to take him down, especially with his minions fighting @ his side. I suppose there were some 7 or 8 skeletons & ~ a dozen Kobolds at least.

Looks like this 'topic' has dried up. I've been posting here and on the forum below. Henceforth, if anyone was following my posts, they'll continue @ this link.

I must admit that I prefer this forum. Just because other people aren't posting doesn't mean that they aren't interested in what you are doing. it just means that they don't want to do a minimal reload run themselves.

Even on the no-reloads thread it occasionally dries up because:

1) They have gone to Amn.

2) They have lives to live.

@ GtW: Thanks for the pep-talk. I just felt like no one was over here so why keep posting something no one's reading. Especially, since it's harder, at least for me, to post screen shots on Bioware.

Funny thing is, the 'newness' of BGEE is drying up for me. I'd forgotten, or maybe I never realized, how much better the game is with some of the mods people have created. I miss some of the dialogue I took for granted & I especially miss Hard-Times. Thinking about comin' home to Tutu!

Actually I plan to start posting here shortly. All my no-reloaders are dead, but they've given me the chance to feel out the changes in SCS v20, so I'm gonna start a new character, and post his progress here from the start.

The thing is, I'm not really suited for no-reloads, I have an unholy mix of ADD and a cowboy approach to problems. So, when my no-reload inevitably dies, and I'm faced with the choice between moving to this thread, or starting again, a new character just seems easier.

So in the interests of finishing a trilogy run before I lose interest entirely, or my computer blows up and I can't be bothered to re-install, I'm taking the best of my recent no-reloads, and heading for the throne of Bhaal.

I'm sticking with sneakers for now, but ditching soloing. I'll probably add Kivan (archer kit), and go for an illusionist/thief pc. I may add Yeslick when I meet him, depends how I feel.

I have just found an easier way of posting.
I open my jpgs in Microsoft Office 2010.
Under edit, it gives the option of compressing the file.
Choosing the web page option, this reduces the file size considerably- 30-50 kilobytes.
It makes sending to photobucket or whatever hosting site you use so much quicker, and probably helps this site as well.

I followed the clues uncovered @ the Bandit Camp from Ender Sai & the letter found in the treasure chest. They led me to the Cloakwood.

Initially the Cloakwoods are somewhat less exciting than the Bandit Trail we followed just a few days ago now. Defeated enemies include several Wolves, Dire Wolves, Huge Spiders & Tasloi.

I ran into a rogue of sorts who asked me to join him on an adventure. Though tempting, I declined trying to stay focused on my task @ hand & having decided that my party was just about as large as I want it to be.

Key Event:A merchant named Aldeth Sashenstar who asked for our aid in defending him & the rest of his hunting party against some savages that had killed one of their number & were threatening them. The ‘savages’ turned out to be druids who didn’t appreciate Aldeth & his friends hunting in the woods. The Druids were unyielding to my efforts to seek a peaceful solution & attacked.

The Big Blow here was Dynahier casting, for the first time, her Horror spell. That scattered them immediately running in fear.  From there we ran them down & picked them off w/ease.

Treasure of note: Druids Ring of Animal Friendship (Jaheira). Coupled with her Ring of Sune (Holiness) this find really makes Jaheira a combat multiplier for my efforts. We also found the Whispers of Silence Cloak of non-detection (Dynahier).

Current Disposition: Resting, Recuperating & Resupplying @ the FAI

@CKT -On the whole mods thing, Its currently a lot more easier to mod BGT or Tutu, simply because you don't have to hardlink the dialog.tlk. Also, BG:EE kind of separated the bad modders, and the good ones, I guess. I hope that someday that all the mods that were on BGT and Tutu get updated for people that want to play BG:EE.

Also, after playing BG:EE and zooming in and zooming out. I'm not used to BG2 not being able to do that. I mean, I wasn't trying to zoom in and out or anything, but rather, playing at 800x600 instead of at 1440x900 that I'm now used to with BG:EE is just...weird to me right now.

Also, keep up the progress! And welcome any new challengers!

My followers & I travelled deeper into the Cloakwood. We ran into an area infested w/spiders & Ettercaps. Here we met a young boy whose brother was missing in the forest & had been for a week. He asked us to find his brother. We settled on a ‘ranged’ strategy to deal w/the spiders & Ettercaps, lest we lose someone to a poisonous bite. Besides, Ettercaps  have a habit of setting devious & dangerous traps to snare prey. We did well & the strategy worked almost w/o a hitch.

Key Event:We had a difficult battle in the cave of a hideous, fat octopus looking creature that appeared to be the arachnid goddess here in the Cloakwood.  We entered the cave but conducted retrograde quickly, as we didn’t want to get tied up inside the cave when she summoned spiders to her side. Outside we struggled to defeat a Sword Spider & two Giant Spiderss. The Sword Spider chased Khalid & pierced his armor causing repeated damage. Khalid quaffed 2 Potions of Healing & tried to shake the Spider. In an anguished effort we killed the Sword Spider. Unfortunately, Dynahier had been trying to use a Potion of Firebreath on the Sword Spider but, instead, burned both Jaheira & Khalid, killing Khalid. Back inside the cave, we fought & killed another Sword Spider, an Ettercap & three or so Huge/Giant Spiders. Sadly, we found the young man’s brother, deceased, among the ‘spider queens’ treasure.

Image IPB

We were sporadically approached & attacked by Druids further into the forest. We finally found a tree house where we fought a bit of a tense battle against a Druid – who claimed to be an Arch-Druid. His skills didn’t seem to be anything like what I’d expect from an Arch-Druid but he did manage to get off an Entangle spell & some other ‘Hold’ type spell that stopped Imoen mid-step.

Later, even further into the Cloakwood, we found a Wyvern Cave w/2 huge Wyverns & their young. We did well here & took them out w/relative ease.

As a sign that we were getting close, we had to fight off a number of guards as we got deeper into the forest. Finally, we found the mines & the palisades around them. We performed a recon around the palisades & cleared the woods of more guards before retiring to the FAI to rest.

Treasure of note: Spider’s Bane +2 (Minsc), Rashad’s Talon (Scimitar) +2,

Current Disposition: Resting, Recuperating & Resupplying @ the FAI

Next Steps:
Into the Cloakwood Mines…

Level Up: Jaheira was elevated to Initiate of the 2nd Circle (Druid/4) & was promoted to Hero (Fighter/4). She was granted the divine spells Armor of faith & Barkskin. Dynahier rose to Theurgist (Mage-Invoker/4) & elected to add additional Magic Missile & Armor spells & Agannazar’s Scorcher to her memorized spells. I, Behmen, was also promoted; to Swashbuckler (Fighter-Wizard Slayer/5). Khalid, also, was promoted to Swashbuckler, (Fighter/5).

I led my followers back to the mine after short respite @ the FAI.

Upon returning, Imoen performed a recon Hidden in Shadows & returned to report that there were two guards in Splint Mail w/Shield & Long Sword @ the main gate of the mining complex. Also, she spied what appeared to be 2 Mages & 2 others in armor, 1 in Plate that could have been knights or clerics. We took out the guards first & then I had Jaheira cast Entangle & Dynahier cast Web from beyond their line of site. From there I had us move in to attack w/ranged weapons, sending Minsc in w/Spiders Bane to keep the Mages occupied. The strategy played out pretty much as I envisioned it although Minsc was taken out of the fight w/a confusion spell.

Moving into the mines, we worked quickly thru the 1st Lvl knocking out any guards we found.

Key Event:The 2nd Lvl seemed about the same till we came upon the Dining Facility for the complex. The place was swarming w/guards supported by a mage. Initially we were packed in a hallway & the mage fired off an ill-conceived lightning bolt hat almost cost me Jaheira. Dynahier fired off her Fear wand & this incapacitated 1 or 2 guards. We worked our way out of the hallway & into the room. I went after the mage w/assistance from Minsc. The others moved in & spread out while Jaheira conducted a retrograde into the hallway to cast Cure Light Wounds on herself.  Dynahier cast Grease & Horror into the main Dining Room to occupy our enemy.  From there we took out some 12 or so guards w/our bows until the Grease wore off & then we moved in & finished up the survivors. Unfortunately, we tried to rest there & ended up in a battle w/10 guards. We won that easily enough after Dynahier used her Wand of Fear but when we tried to leave to rest outside we tripped a trap that took out Khalid & Minsc w/a Lightning Bolt. We had to return to the FAI & enlist Gellana’s services.

OK well I have created yet another version of Smoke

Image IPB

I soloed him up to 14k pretty easily, levels 3/4. Then I added Kivan, saved and changed him to an archer in shadowkeeper. He gained 8k I think when I leveled him up. We immediately headed off to sort out Shoal and otherwise clear the area, currently levels 5/4 & 5. We're a pretty good team.

Image IPB

I then got cocky, so we headed straight to Ulcaster to get Kivan some stealth boots. Smoke had his first death here, to a poison arrow from a hobgoblin. I reloaded, got the boots, and headed to Nashkel for a sleep. I should make a rule that I never change area unless I'm on full health or I'm going to a town.

After a needed break at the FAI we assaulted the Cloakwood Mines again, intent on completing the 3rd level down, at a minimum. I’ve decided we just cannot risk resting in those mines unless we are at top form, minus fatigue. There is just too much a chance to meet entire squads of guards or Hobgoblins (not sure if these guys are Chill).

Image IPB
More Stinkin' Hobgoblins!

We fought & killed maybe 30 Hobgoblins down here, in addition to numerous guards. The Hobgoblin barracks were on this level as were the rooms the human guards used.

We ran into a Mage in one of the rooms but drew her into the hall and were able to deal w/her & a few Hobgoblins that were @ her side rather easily. In addition, there was an absolutely gruesome Ogre Mage down there that we found & took out of the Faerun.

Key Event:  We’d been down here a week or so ago, and ran into an ambush trying to rest in one of the rooms. Ten guards in Leather Armor, Shield, w/Long Sword attacked us as we dozed. We just DID NOT react well and got separated. Dynahier used her Wand of Fear (or maybe she cast Horror) but whatever the case, while it eliminated the immediate threat of most of the guards; it added mass confusion to an already confusing situation. I didn’t have control of my followers & they were spread out all over the dungeon. It’s a wonder we didn’t attract more attention to us – attention we definitely didn’t need. We survived a disjointed and disoriented battle.

Treasure of note: Studded Leather Armor +1 (Minsc may use this & drop the plate in order to better use his Ranger’s Stealth skill. In this case, he’ll drop back to using his Composite Bow over Spider’s Bane. He and Khalid, backed up by Imoen & Jaheira would pack a solid ‘ranged’ punch. We’re still mulling this over.

Current Disposition: Resting, Recuperating & Resupplying @ the FAI

Next Steps:
Four levels down

Level Up: Jaheira is now an Initiate of the 3rd Circle (Druid/5) & still a Hero (Fighter/5). Dynahier  has increased to Thaumaturgist (Mage-Invoker/5) & selected Mirror Image, Slow & Fireball spells to add to our cause.

Some more progress with Smoke/Kivan. Levels 5/6 & 6, and reputation just hit 20, so I'm gonna identify a mass of stuff, sell it, and buy a robe of the archmagi.

Smoke had his second death, credit to the vampiric wolves in the Beregost temple area. A stupid mistake really, I told Kivan to charm a worg, to see if it was any good. Damn, touch range. Smoke then got held by a vampiric wolf, and attacked by the entire pack.

I replayed it but led with a web, and Kivan stayed firmly at range. By the time the two vamps arrived, the rest were all dead. Kivan switched to long swords, and Smoke got in 2-3 backstabs.
On the last wolf he got held again, but the wolf immediately lost interest and switched to Kivan, so it all worked out.

Easily completed the Nashkel mines, and the Amazon ambush. I even allowed the amazons to talk to me before laying into them. The backstab while blue tactic is kinda unfriendly. I then tackled the tombs and the slime mage. Smoke had his third death against the 3 ghasts in the tomb, this after killing the revenant and both slimes. Seesh. I need a better tactic against hold person.

I decided to have a go at the top layers of Durlag's tower. Started well enough, killed 3 battle horrors and a doom guard outside, and some ghasts inside. Got the tome, then bumped into a ghost, who was pretty tough. Immediately after it died, a lightning bolt took Smoke down to single digits, and killed Kivan. Shoulda equipped Mulaney's boots.

Smoke grabbed Kivan's stuff, and headed out. Outside, he snuck past a greater doppelganger. Hm, tempting. All I can say is, what is that thing's armor class? Only one Backstab landed, and only because it was a critical hit. Fortunately I had a completely full spellbook, so I took it down with magic missiles and annagazzer's scorcher. Hold, web & blindness just bounced off.

Anyway, the bandit camp awaits ...

I returned to Cloakwood Mines to complete my mission there & try to tie all of this together. I quickly descended the three levels we’d already cleared, killing groups of pesky Hobgoblins that continue to wander the mines, probably those that were out patrolling or running other 'errands' for their ‘master’ when my followers & I’d been here earlier. Unfortunately my group began to tire & I made the mistake of trying to rest on the 3rd level again. We were suddenly discovered mid- slumber by a squad of human guards armed w/Long Swords & protected by Splint Mail & Shield. I’d not allowed any one to remove their armor this time, only to ground their main weapons, helms, gauntlets. We were able, w/difficulty to defeat them all but lost time having to exit the mines & rest outside. Even there, we were discovered by another squad of human guards. Rather than engage them, we evaded south to the area where we’d found the Cloakwood Wyvern cave; there we were able to rest & return to the mines much refreshed. Once again, my followers & I had to swat Hobgoblins before we were able to descend to the 4th level of the mines.

Key Event:  I found Davaeorn, a wizard, who turned out to be the ‘Master of the Cloakwood Mines.’ He was a tough cuss. He took out Jaheira w/a Lightning Bolt & then Imoen a short time later w/a Fireball. I kept pressing him while Dy fired off spell after spell. Khalid & Minsc fired arrows until I finally started landing blows through his protective barrier. Then they too rushed in to assist me in melee drawing their swords to help. They did help, Minsc landing the decisive blow. Unfortunately, we needed Imoen to get into the treasure chests we found so we returned to the FAI to visit Galena @ the Temple of Wisdom. After raising Imoen & Jaheira, we reorganized & returned but still needed Dy’s Knock spell to open the chests.

Image IPB

From there we returned to the main floor & gave the key that would unlock the river plug to the slave who had knowledge of how to work it. The mine is now flooded & all the slaves escaped. My mission continues to Baldur’s Gate!

Treasure of note: Bracers to the Death (Defense AC6) – Dynahier. This enabled Dy to erase Armor from her spellbook making room for others. We also recovered a Robe of the Evil Arch Magi & sold it for good gold.

Current Disposition: Resting & recuperating on the road to Baldur’s Gate.

Key Event:  On the road to Baldur’s Gate I made a cardinal mistake. There are 2 rules I try to enforce in myself. 1, never stop to battle attackers that try to waylay me on the road, no matter how tempting. I did & I died from a Wyvern sting. Thankfully, my followers continue to be more than loyal & they returned me to Galena @ the FAI where she raised me.

Oh, the 2nd rule is, be very selective about buying magic in shops, lest I buy something & then find it, or something even better, a short time later.

I made it to Baldur’s Gate after a treacherous journey back through the Cloakwood – it seems you can’t go directly from the Cloakwood Mines to the road that leads north.

When I arrived in Baldur’s Gate I was met by Scar, 2nd in command of the Flaming Fist (FF). When he realized I was the man behind the breakup of the iron ruining operation @ the Nashkel Mines, he asked me to look into suspicions he had about the Seven Suns Trading Company. He thinks its top officials have been acting strangely & needs someone not well known in Baldur’s Gate to investigate.

As we were looking around for an Inn & visiting various shops, we ran into Aldeth Sashenstar, our new friend, the one we’d helped near the Cloakwood Lodge.  He indicated that his partners had been acting strangely since he returned from his hunting trip. He asked if I’d investigate. After finally finding an inn w/enough rooms for all of us & buying some magic items I returned to the ML. After conferring w/the Captain of the Guard & investigating @ his leave, it became apparent that Doppelgangers had taken the place of Aldeth’s partners.  We killed them mercilessly & Aldeth rewarded me with an enchanted Bastard Sword that is especially lethal to Shapeshifters – just hours after I’d spend gold on another enchanted Bastard Sword. Regardless, the one Aldeth gave me is more powerful so I’ll sell the former.

I led my followers to the Seven Suns to investigate the situation for Scar. It was easy to figure out what was going on, especially having just left Aldeth Sashenstar & the Merchant League. The place was overrun w/Doppelgangers.We quickly saved Jhasso, Scar’s friend & acquaintance. Then we wiped out the remainder of the Doppelganger’s & returned to Scar. We received triple the reward we’d been promised! He asked us if we might further aid him by investigating a string of disappearances in the Eastern part of the city. He thought the sewers tunnels would a good place to look. We accepted.

As we continued looking around the city that we might be more familiar with available inn’s & stores, we were approached by an irate noblewoman who spoke of a mage who was holding a Nymph prisoner in his home. We assured her we’d look into it. It wasn’t long before we were approached by a wizard, Ramazith by name, who wanted us to bring him that same Nymph. So we headed in the direction we’d been given & easily found the wizard & the Nymph. The wizard, Ragefest & the Nymph, had had a previous relationship but the Nymph no longer wanted to stay. Ragefest was brokenhearted but relented when Dy convinced him it was best.

Key Event:  When we returned to Ramazith he was enraged & blasted us w/a Lightning Bolt & challenged us to follow him to the top of his ‘tower home.’ We conducted a retrograde & headed to the Temple of Helm where the Priest performed Raise Dead on Jaheira who’d been double blasted with the aforementioned Lightning Bolt. We returned to Ramazith’s Tower & worked our way upward thru Mustard Jellies, Ghasts, Hobgoblin Elites & Kobold Commando’s before finding him. Minsc took charge here, using his Ranger’s stealth to work his way from floor to floor & used his Composite Longbow w/deadly accuracy, engaging the enemy & drawing them to us. He quaffed a Potion of Magic Blocking (or some such) before going up to the top floor & attacking Ramazith. When Ramazith came down the stairs we cut him to ribbons.

My followers & I headed to East Baldur’s Gate to begin our investigation in the sewer tunnels. Carrion Crawlers & Phase Spiders infest the place. I was Held once by a CC attack & took a poison bite from a PS that injured & scared me so that we headed back to the inn for a rest.

Key Event:  We ran up on the culprit behind these disappearances, another vile Ogre Mage. He was running a scheme using his ‘pet’ CCs to attack & disable people in the streets & then drag them into the sewers where they’d feast & the OM would take their treasure. As w/the ogre Mage we destroyed in the Cloakwood Mines, this one too was surrounded w/corpses. We destroyed him easily enough, although once again, I was bitten by a CC & Held. Scary position to be in but my team was up to the task.

We returned to Scar & he was pleased, especially when we were able to return a ring that had been owned by a Silvershield daughter. He asked if we’d mind meeting w/the Grand Duke Elton to undertake a mission of infiltration vs. the iron Throne. I gladly accepted on behalf of all of us.

Treasure of note: We broke the rule again & bought an upgraded weapon for each of us but the Ogre Mage only had a Scimitar +1, which we sold.

Current Disposition: Resting, Recuperating, Resupplying & preparing to infiltrate the Iron Throne.

Next Steps:

We continued exploring the city & making a note of the inns, stores & temples that we want to remember. We were approached by an assassin who threatened us if we continued to investigate the IT. Not long afterward another man, who said his name was Lothandar, approached us & said we’d been poisoned by his partner Marek – the same man who’d threatened us. He told us b/c he claimed he himself was under the curse of a Geas Spell & wanted freedom. Lothandar led us to a diviner who for 50gp said the High Priestess of the Temple of Umberlee we could lift the Geas Spell. We went to the Temple of Umberlee. The High Priestess asked us to retrieve a Tome of Wisdom from the Lady’s House (Temple of Tymora). We headed straight there & the Priest sold us the Tome for 500GPs.

We headed back to take Tome to the High Priestess but were approached by a boy who begged us to follow him. He took us to a Priest of Tymora whose son had ostensibly been killed breaking into the Temple of Umberlee.  Sure enough, after talking to him we had two missions @ the Temple of Umberlee, the 2nd to recover the boy’s body so his father the priest could resurrect him. We went back to the Temple of Umberlee & took her the Tome. She gave us a scroll w/a spell that will remove the Geas. Then we coughed up 2000GPs to recover the Priests son. We returned the boy’s body &his father performed a resurrection. We recovered our 2000GP as our reward.

Witnessing a resurrection was moving.  We've seen Priests/Priestesses Raise Dead but this was, wow!

Key Event:
We left there & tracked down Lothandar @ the Blade & Stars. We gave him the scroll & he gave us ½ of the Antidote Potion needed. He told us we needed to find Marek @ the Splurging Sturgeon for the other ½.  We moved quickly & found Marek upstairs. From there we spread out & surrounded him since he didn’t seem to notice us. I approached him & he took exception to my desire to lighten his load ½ an Antidote Potion. He became hostile & my followers shredded him w/arrows.

Treasure of note: Shield of the falling Stars (Shield +1/+5); Protector of the Dryads (Short Bow +2)

Are Smoke & Kivan still @ 5/4 & 5?  Tall order heading into DsT @ those levels.  You did well.

CKT

I don't know exactly what levels they were at then, but they are currently 7/7 & 7.

After raising Kivan in Beregost, we did a lightning run through Ulcaster, and continued on to the easiest fight againsk Khark I've ever had. Stealthed to allow his haste & buffs to wear off, then lost invisibility to draw him out, and blew him away in short order.

I'm currently sneaking through the firewine ruins, although I am ending up having to kill all of these annoying kobolds. Two players is about the maximum I can stomach getting through those old BG1 underground areas, one of the best things they did in BG2 was dropping the trapped maze levels. Still, a fireball scroll should make it worthwile.

Actually, I think I found a fireball scroll in the hut just south of the main bandit compound on my last playthrough. I'm not looking forward to the bandit camp much, SCS makes this area quite tough. It kinda makes sense to clear the main tent first, because if you start on the bandits outside, all the people in the main tent join in the fight. If you fight them first, you can break the enemies into 3 groups, the ones in the tent, the ones with Ardenor on the left, and the ones with Taugozs on the right.

6 people with buggy pathing who block each other into taking different routes while lightning traps are placed in narrow corridors - what's not to like :crying:
