Where to start ...

Posted Image

Smoke had his fourth death here, on my first attempt. Ideally I should start with a glitterdust here, or even a sleep, anything to take down the riff-raff, because otherwise their arrows disrupt all spellcasting. Mirror image doesn't last long enough to cast outside the tent ... damn, I could have cast it where Kivan is standing and not triggered them hostile.

That aside, my main problem is that I seem incapable of starting the fight without a backstab to take out the mage. I'm sure the fight is easier without him there, but I could just try. The problem is, the backstab makes Smoke visible, and being closest/weakest, he then draws every single attack.

In any case, my second attempt worked. I'm not particularly sure what I did differently, the glitterdust was still disrupted, but I did get a fireball off. Oh right, Kivan spoke to the neutral thief chap, which removed his invisibility and drew their fire, good man. Smoke then backstabbed, engaged the others in melee, and dropped whatever spells he could, while Kivan mopped up the weaker archers, and the named enemies shortly after.

Backstab, pause, hide. You can often hide before they go hostile if your hide in shadows is good enough.

You mentioned earlier about missing the mods, how is BG:EE faring after further use?

Still prefer Tutu w/Mods.  Planning to play Tutu next time thru.

Don't get me wrong. BGEE runs better to me & the team that developed it seems to be regularly reacting to bugs that are uncovered.  I like the available new NPcs too but there are some annoying bugs still...

What follows is a list of things I miss, for my preferences, from BG Tutu plus mods.

1.  Dialogue:  Much of the 'modded-in' dialogue was transparent to me until it wasn't there.  Now it just kinda stands out like a sore thumb, e.g. Imoen asking about burying Gorion, Jaheira also when you fist meat @ the FAI.  There ar elots of examples of that.

2. Item ID: The game IDs every item for you (magic, gems, potions). I find it much more realistic to have the game set so that mages & store-keeps  have some ability to ID items. Until your party gets an Identify spell you have to rely on & pay for them to do so for you.

3. PCs/NPC Spell Learning: Every PC/NPC automatically reads from & writes every spell to their spellbook.  Potions of Genius, etc. are useless.  I like having to shell out gold to buy a PoG to make sure we don't lose that spell in translation - or take the chance of doing so.

4. Experience Cap: I like having the ability to choose to do so or not.  I've not done so before but I think I'd like to try that next run thru. W/BGEE that's not an option.

5. Hard Times: I just think the game is much more realistic w/this installed. it mimics the struggle of the iron crisis & seriously cuts back on the availability of magic items, they are a real 'treasure' when you actually find them.  Plus, I think it's seriously unrealistic that a common room in an in is 1 GP and a Royal Room 8 GPs.  They Royal Room is like 200GPs w/Hard Times - way too much for the average adventurer to blow night after night.

6.  I also like being able to mod the games a character classes so that it's as close as possible to AD&D p&p w/a few exceptions, e.g. I limit fighter druids to Leather armor & weapons druids can use; I don't allow thieving in other than leather/studded leather armor , etc.

Anyway, those are some things I see that have yet to be worked into BGEE.  Thus, I think I'm going back to my old game next time. LOL

W/little doubt that battle awaited us @ the IT we moved up the left staircase intent on seeing the entire building before acting if we could. We paid off a guard on the first floor & scared another on the 2nd or 3rd. We kept moving like we had business there & were never molested or questioned further until…

Key Event:…we arrived on the 5th floor & we wound up in a hornets nest. It was Ugly w/a capital ‘U’ ! Dy saw a spellcaster & cast a Spell Thrust @ them. Jaheira cast Bless to try & protect us from what was to come. Khalid & Minscdowned Potions of Magic Protection & I headed to the back corner of the room to get position. Imoen started firing off Arrows +1 from The Protector of the Dryads. Imoen fell first; Jaheira got caught in an Entangle spell & we lost her a few seconds later. We were doing our best to bring them down. Khalid & Minsc were firing from their Longbows but drawing their swords for close combat. We’d purchased Arrows of Detonation & Dispelling for them, 5 each, before the battle. Khalid was popping the Dispelling Arrows  off w/great effect. I used my crossbow where I could & my sword where necessary.  We killed a couple of them & a Doppelganger & then Dy fell. Minsc & I were being pummeled w/Flame Strikes. I cast both my Cure Light Wounds Spells & Minsc & I were quaffing Elixirs of Health like shots of liquor. Minsc broke, regained his senses & then broke again. Only Khalid & I remained. We had to gain separation or the party was lost for good. We moved across the room & down to the 4th & 3rd. Two of them followed & we drew the attention of a guard who attacked. We were both badly wounded. One hit either way was gonna win the battle for better or worse. It looked bad so we moved back up to the 6th. Khalid fired an Arrow of Detonation across the room and toasted the enemies that remained on that floor. We moved back down again & finally, finally killed our last enemies.  We had to collect all of the treasure & our fallen party members’ equipment & leave much of it in a dresser until we could return. We were able to get the Priest @ the Temple of helm to Raise Dead for Jaheira, Imoen, Minsc & Dy.

I've trying not to do that, in terms of roleplay, how do I know which people will go hostile and which will not. Having Kivan talk to Ender Sai was bad enough, although there's probably something to be said for talking to the guy in chains in the tent you know is probably full of enemies.

I exited the tent, and headed to Ulgoth's beard to buy a cloak, some level 4 spells, and have a sleep. It's a bit daft that the bandits were still all there when I returned, but I'm not complaining.

I set a trap in a tent, then uncloaked (wow, star trek anyone?) and got them to follow me into the tent. They all did. All. Ardenor Crush, Taugosz whatzit, and about 20 archers. The trap took one archer to injured. Damn. I backstabbed another, and blinded Ardenor, but it was all going pear shaped fast. Smoke was drawing heavy fire, so on 7 hit points, I took a leaf from Alesia's book, and reached for a potion. Invisibility.

Great. Kivan's now drawing heavy fire, but he's got 60 HP, so we've got time. Mirror image. OK not much time, loads of arrows incoming. Smoke tosses Kivan 3 oils of fiery burning, and casts a sleep. It may be level 1 and not very effective, but it does cast in 1. Pretty successfull. Follow with web (Kivan you twit, get out of there), glitterdust, emotion, and it's all over bar the shouting. I love my new level 4 spells.

We reported to Duke Eltan @ the Flaming Fist Castle. He asked us to continue on the trail of the IT leadership by returning to Candlekeep. We stayed a couple of night’s w/Winthrop & visited the Temple of Oghma for EoH & PoH. Then we headed to the keep.

Key Event:I found Rielter on the 3rd floor where he gruffly rebuffed our intrusion. Despite my veneration for Candlekeep, I elected to battle him & his cohorts then & there.  We defeated them easily, even though we realized early on that Minsc was w/o his Bow. After collecting the booty from our victory we headed to the Inn to buy another bow but were, instead, arrested by the Watcher’s for murder. I was imprisoned but Tethtoril freed me shortly believing in my innocence. He teleported me & my followers to the Catacombs.

Posted Image

The Catacombs were treacherous w/traps, Phase Spiders & Ghasts galore. Dy was taken by a Phase Spider early.  We almost lost Minsc to Ghasts a short time later. We found a Great Hall filled w/Skeleton’s & Doppelgangers wearing faces of people I know, including Gorion. We did find Arkanis & Deder there & they offered to assist but I’m not sure they were able to. We found a cave leading out of the Catacombs & had a stout fight w/a quartet of bad guys.  They knew who we were & came out swingin’ but we were able to defeat them easily, although Imoen took a hard hit or two. We worked our way out from beneath Candlekeep killing Phase Spiders, Wraith & Sword Spiders & 2 Basilisk’s as we did.

I’ll lay low for a while & see what develops. The FF will be looking for me. My plan is to head south where I am well thought of. I’ll let the party rest a while & then we’re going to do some adventuring in the south & work our way north toward Baldur’s Gate & see what happens. I want to explore that valley we found when we exited the Nashkel  Mines.

Treasure of note:  Tome of Wisdom (Behmen); Batalista’s Passport (Ring of Fire Resistance) ( Minsc); The Spirit of the Shield (Cloak of Protection +2 - Imoen); Wand of Fireballs (Dy)

Current Disposition: Resting, recovering, recuperating & resupplying in Nashkel.

Next Steps:
There’s a Carnival in Nashkel. I think it’s time for all of us to share some rest & relaxation.

Level Up: Minsc was promoted to Guide (Ranger/6) & worked on his skill in 2HWS*; Jaheira rose to Initiate of the 4th Circle (Druid/6); Imoen increased her thieving to Sharper (Thief/7) & then laid that aside to begin again as a Mage. She rose quickly to Evoker (Mage/2).

It seems wise to stay beyond reach of the FF now & my loyal followers agree. I’m well thought of in Amn & especially Nashkel so the plan is to adventure here in the south keeping my ear to the ground w/respect to matters in BG. Sarevok must be stopped but if I’m imprisoned, or executed, I’ll be of little use to the cause. Adventuring will do 3 things for me & my followers, 1, it will improve our lethality & skill individually & collectively, 2, it’ll allow us to experience combat against a variety of creatures & enemies, & 3, it’ll give me a more thorough feel for the Faerun in general.

We enjoyed a visit to the Carnival. Even there, we had to mop up a few pockets of leftover Kobolds. I expect they’re displaced after we destroyed Mulahey & his operation to taint the ore in the Nashkel Mines. Still more, we walked into a carnival tent & one wizard preparing to kill another. I’ve gotten to where I am quick to close on & melee enemy mages, having learned to trust in my Wizard Slayer skills. We killed him & saved a life… & this is a carnival?

After a break in Nashkel, I took my followers to the area we found when we exited the Nashkel Mines. The place, I’ve now discovered is called the Valley of the Tombs. In keeping w/its name, it was full of tombs & each one was inhabited by undead. We killed all of them w/o much ado although we had a scary moment in one of them when Dy was Held by a Ghast strike but we managed to kill them in time.

Killing the Revenant!

Key Event:We met  a wizard that was working on an incantation to control Mustard Jellies & the like. When I mentioned we’d like him to share the spell w/us he became enraged & attacked. I attacked him & took a blast from a lightning bolt & was blindsided by a Mustard Jelly attack. I was slowed by its attack & suddenly found myself close to being able to use one of these recently vacated tombs. I alerted the others to my need for aid, quaffed 2 Elixirs & barely escaped. My team performed exemplarily!

Continuing our journey west to east, south of Nashkel we went to the Gibberling Mountains. For the most part, that’s what they were: mountains full of Gibberling’s. Not much there. We killed maybe 50 of them, 20 of them when we tried to camp. We eventually did & were able to move on from there to the Fire Leaf Forest.

The only event of note in the GMs occurred when we came across a sick young man lying out in the open. When we talked w/his companion she told us on Gellana @ the Temple of Wisdom could help him. Go figure. Try to lay low in the south & before you know it you’re braving the roads north to save a life. We were able to do so, unmolested by the FF, & returned quickly south after a night @ the FAI.

The Fire Leaf Forest was a little more challenging as we were twice accosted by marauders looking for a fight. Two of them, quite comical, approached threatening us w/the quickest dart thrower in the Faerun. Imoen took the 'Quickest Dart in the Faerun' out if the fight w/a Wand of Fear & he was easy picken' after that. The rest of us quickly disposed of his mouthpiece. Then we picked him off.

Key Event:We came across a trio of Amnish nobles dressed as warriors that boastfully drew us into a fight. I think they were all warriors as I don’t believe there were any spells cast. Whatever the case, like the other teams groups we've battled lately, their bark was far more challenging than their bite. We cut two of them down quickly & then charged the third that was @ range firing a Long Bow. As I sit here, quill in hand, I don’t recall if any of us got a scratch.

The journey to the cloakwood mines was suitably uneventful. We cleared out most enemies using stealth, and drafted in Faldorn to cast some healing spells.

The mine ambush was made trivial with an emotion to start. Both mages failed their saves, and woke up dead. The remaining two spent their remaining minutes chasing Smoke, and catching arrows. Even with boots of speed this wasn't a good plan.

Posted Image

Shortly afterwards Smoke got his mage level 8, which I was hoping would give his first level 5 spell (cloudkill). Unfortunately it did not. Anyway, the duo are on levels 8/8 & 8, and unlikely to gain many more levels, so I added Yeslick, who made a welcome addition.

So you want me to wear all this armour, and ... guys? Hey, where did you two go?

I explored around Dryad Falls intent on moving directly to Bear River. Once we’d cleared the falls though, the entire party was exhausted.  When I looked at the map and conferred we the others I decided we’d head back to Nashkel. We had two enchanted Halberds and I wanted to know what they were. They appeared to be different so I knew at least one of them was worth something.

Other than a few Gnolls, some Xvarts and a couple of Winter Wolves, we really found nothing of interest. We were able to help a young girl whose kitten had slipped & fallen over Dryad Falls.

I was able to help a Dryad against a couple of dimwits who were trying to chop down a beautiful tree to look for treasure. I tried reasoning with them to no avail.

Key Event:  My dumbest move yet, I spend 11000 GPs for Shadow Armor for Minsc. Unfortunately, I wasn’t careful enough & didn’t realize till after I’d bought it that Minsc couldn’t wear it. I thought to let Imoen use it when she was able to use her thieving skills again but…if she wears it then the Mage skills she’s learning will be of no use. I sold it back for 5225 GPs. Good business!

Treasure of note:  Destroyer of the Hills (Girdle of Bluntness – Minsc)

Current Disposition: Resting and recovering @ the Nashkel Inn.

Hi GtW: The portrait is of Behmen von Bleibruck, a Teutonic Knight and the protagonist in the movie, Season of the Witch, played by Nicholas Cage.

I very often use medieval movie characters for both my large and small portraits.

A good idea.

I tend to use both old and new photographs of myself and apply to an existing portrait except when playing female of course. :D

Hey

I've been slack with my posting, so here goes ...

Davaeorn was less of a challenge than I expected. In fairness my solo mage/thief scouted him out, so I knew what to expect.

Posted Image

With the horrors out of the way he was doomed.

Posted Image

On the way back we got ambushed, and Yeslick was out of healing spells. Smoke had his 5th death from this, no idea why I didn't drink an antidote.

Posted Image

An unremembered ambush, the horror, the horror! Then I remembered this is how you get the cloak of Balduran. Except this bit is completely optional.

Posted Image

I don't like the Gate much, I'm probably going to skip some quests. But then again I'm quite a completionist.

Anyway, (finally) on to the business. A good start ..

Posted Image

... which went bad ...

Posted Image

Fortunately, even confused, Smoke knows his business ...

Posted Image

.. and luckily another target arrived to prevent us from getting distracted and attacking each other.

Nashkel continues to serve as my base of operations. Following exploration of Dryad Falls I rested my followers @ the inn there before moving to Bear River due east of Nashkel & north of the Gnoll Stronghold. We fought & killed a Mountain Bear, a Cave Bear & a few Gibberling’s.

Key Event:  We were waylaid there by ‘the fairest lf the Bandits’ who tried to ambush us from a wood line as we were making our way along the river bank. His Hobgoblin Elite, five of them, tried to camouflage in the trees but stood out clearly for anyone with eyes to see.  Dy ripped off a Fireball from her wand of Fire and incinerated them instantly. The ‘fair bandit’ himself was singed. I rushed in to melee him while my followers provided ranged backup. It was over very quickly.

Posted Image

A short time later, we came upon 2 Ogre Berserkers & 3 more Hobgoblin Elites on a bridge.   I fired off a bolt from my crossbow; Imoen cast Sleep & Dy used a Wand of Fear. As soon as I loosed my bolt, I drew Kondar +1 and charged the first Ogre Berserker.  Minsc felled him w/an Arrow +1. Next I rushed the bridge & killed the 2nd Ogre Berserker. One of the Hobgoblin Elites was already dead, one was asleep & one was panicking in fear. They were easy picking.

From Bear River we headed back west toward Nashkel by way of the Xvart Village. I had no qualms about massacring the 40 or so Xvarts & 2 Cave Bears we found there. Xvarts are nasty & attack on site so killing off the village full might well safe a life, or more, down the road.

Treasure of note:  We found a Flail +1 which I’m considering adding to my repertoire.

Current Disposition: Resting, Recuperating, Resupplying @ the Nashkel Inn

Next Steps:
North Nashkel Road, South Beregost Road then to Beregost for resupply of enchanted arrows, sling stones, bolts

I wanted us to resupply our enchanted arrows, bolts & stones & know only of Beregost’s Thunderhammer, outside of BG to do so. I decided we’d adventure in the immediate areas on either side of the North Nashkel Road & South Beregost Roads.

The North Nashkel Road yielded little of note. A couple of teams of Hobgoblins armed w/SBows & poison tipped arrows & a handful of Ghouls were about all we encountered. In one instance, we came across several Ghouls just as we were engaging 3-4 Hobgoblins so we ended up having to battle both @ the same time.

http://imageshack.us...hobgoblinso.bmp

The South Beregost Road was, all in all, the same as its southern neighbor. Hobgoblins, Ghouls & a few Ghasts wandered here & there.

Key Event:  One team of Hobgoblins we battled on the South Beregost Road yielded a pair of Worn Whispers (Boots of Stealth). Likewise, we found a Wand of Fire on a Hobgoblin we’d battled earlier in this same general area. The battles themselves were not of note, it was the unusual treasures we found in the possession of Hobgoblins.

Treasure of note:  of Worn Whispers (Boots of Stealth - Minsc); Wand of Fire (Dy)

Current Disposition: Resting, Relaxing, Recuperating @ the Red Sheaf in Beregost

Next Steps:
We found an area called The Red Canyons due east of South Beregost Road. We’re headed there next.

Key Event:  Almost immediately upon entering the canyons, a boy approached me about someone nearby named Bassilus. We started to investigate when a skeleton walked right up to us but appeared not to notice us @ all. Minsc blended into stealth mode & approached a worship grove that was being used by Bassilus who appeared to be a cleric (we later found his holy symbol confirming our suspicion). Once Minsc came back & reported the situation, I had Dy & Imoen use simultaneous Fireballs from their Wands of Fire. This destroyed almost all the undead before they were able to react. I saw Bassilus trying to cast a spell & charged in to melee him. He was dead in a moment as were the remaining undead. We adventured throughout the remaining areas of the Red Canyons running into wolves, Ghouls, Ghasts & a few more of Bassilus’ undead.

We came across a talking chicken named Melicamp! He convinced us he was the apprentice of a mage named Thalantyr who lived in a manor in a place called High Hedge, west of Beregost. I agreed to help him & after finishing my reconnaissance of the Red Canyons, headed north in search of the mage. We found Thalantyr’s High Hedge manor house & approached him w/chicken in ruck. He asked us to find a skull to help him w/some sort of incantation he was going to try to reverse Melicamp’s polymorph. High Hedge Manor is surrounded by lands crawling w/ skeletons. Within moments of leaving to search, we were attacked by skeletons & had our skull. Sadly, the incantation didn’t work & Melicamp perished. We continued adventuring around High Hedge Manor & battled roughly 20 more skeletons, about the same number of Gnolls, some Ghasts a Giant Spider. We remembered a Halving in the Red Sheaf asking us to be on the lookout for a Gnoll w/a SSwd near High Hedge. We were able to find the exact sword, or so Perdue believed. We were happy to bring him closure for 50gps.

Treasure of Note:  We were able to purchase the Robe of the Good Arch-Magi from Thalantyr which we gave to Dy.  We were able to shift her Bracers to the Death (Defense AC6) to Imoen which loweredDy’s AC from 5 to 4 & Imoen’s 4 to 0. We also purchased Minsc a C/LBow +1.

Current Disposition: Resting, recovering, recuperating, resupplying in Beregost

Next Steps:
Our journey’s uncovered three new areas south & west of Beregost. I’ll go there next.

Following our adventures in the Red Canyons & near High Hedge Manor we rested & resupplied @ Beregost before heading SW toward Fisherman’s Lake.

Key Event:  There, side by side w/Drizzt Do’Urden, we battled a small platoon of Gnolls to the death;  encountered & defeated a foursome of Half-Ogres that had injured the Paladin Bjornin @ the Jovial Juggler & defeated a trio of Bandits consisting of a mage, a knight & a Hobgoblin.

From there, we moved further SW to the area around an Archaeological Site on the Sword Coast. We came upon the Archaeological Site & agreed to provide security for the lead archaeologist, Charleston. The dig yielded only a cursed idol which brought us to combat w/a Doomsayer – a tough battle. Later, we came upon Brage. He was the guy w/a bounty on his head in Nashkel for murdering his family. We were able to disarm him so we could return him to the Temple of Helm in Nashkel. The culprit turned out to be a cursed sword. We stayed the night in Nashkel, and then went to the Temple of the Morning in Beregost to collect on Bassilus’ holy symbol. We spent another night @ the Red Sheaf, headed to High hedge to resupply our ranged ammo & then returned to the Archaeological Site to mop up.

From there we headed due N to the Lighthouse on the Sword Coast.  We came upon a woman asked us to aid her. Her son was ‘treed’ by Wargs in a lighthouse. We beat them off & at her request, left to allow her to coax him down. We had some sticky battles w/Sirenes before finding a treasure cave guarded by Flesh Golems & some prickly traps, especially since I have no thief right now. Later, we battled what amounted to a platoon of Hobgoblins beating them easily. A few Dire wolves later we headed N to the Shipwreck’s Coast. On the Shipwrecks Coast we ran into a large group of Ogres, Half-Ogres & Ogrillons but we beat them down, maybe 10 of ‘em. The only other event of note was when we ran into a Nereid that kissed Minsc & killed him immediately. We, in turn, started to destroy her when she revealed she was under control of an Ogre Mage. We agreed to help her & when he showed himself, we quickly defeated him, freeing her.

Treasure of Note:  Gift of Peace (Helm of Defense) & Manual of Bodily Health (Behmen); Cloak of the Wolf (Jaheira)

Current Disposition: Resting @ the Burning Wizard (There were no rooms in the Red Sheaf)

I stayed @ the Burning Wizard & allowed all of us to rest & resupply after our adventures to the E of Beregost. Before heading W beginning w/the area around the Temple of the Morning we visited the Paladin Bjornin to inform him of our success against his Half-Ogres but alas, he already knew & rewarded us w/an enchanted shield. We took one more night of rest at the BW & left early for the temple area.

The temple area was really just wilderness teaming w/wolves and bears. We always try to avoid animals that might turn hostile, lest we are forced to kill them – Jaheira being a Druid. Unfortunately, we left a trail of wolves & a couple of bears in our wake. Still we were able to avoid confrontation w/ a few of the bears we encountered. We did encounter a small squad of Chill Hobgoblins but they were no trouble, more an annoyance really.

Key Event:  One pack of mixed wolves we came across included two Vampire Wolves in addition to four or five Dread Wolves. We killed them all w/nary a scratch but knowing the danger of a certain undead attacks to Hold a victim, I am always thankful to escape w/o losing one of my followers – or myself.

I made a tough decision & had Khalid switch from Full Plate to Studded Leather +1. His primary responsibility is archery so I don’t anticipate him being in melee more than 20% of the time & w/o the added weight he can carry more booty. I’m going to do the same w/Jaheira after this adventure as I use her sling & spell casting abilities at least 80% of the time.

I set out headed for Mutamin’s Garden & ended up in the Spider Wood. As soon as we encountered 2 Ettercaps, I changed tactics to make use of Khalid’s Ring of Free Action & Minsc’s sword Spider’s Bane, which provides Free Action also. Khalid & Minsc were to recon ahead of the group & then return as they determined that there were no web traps. If there were, they’d be okay w/their free action ability. As advertised, we spend our time there fighting & killing Ettercaps & Spiders.

Key Event:  Khalid & Minsc came upon 3 Red Wizards obviously up to no good. The rest of us were close enough to see everything from the moment it started. Their leader insisted on battle which, as a Wizard Slayer, I was glad to give them. I charged in to melee while Jaheira, Dy & Imoen tried to destroy their spell casting ability. Minsc swapped Spider’s Bane for his Composite Longbow +1 while Khalid used Dead Shot +2.  Jaheira led off w/Dispel Magic in the RWs vicinity, Dy hit the leader w/Spell Thrust & Imoen used a Fireball from her Wand of Fire. I took Melf’s Acid Arrow in the chest but kept fighting; quaffing 2 Elixir’s of Health. Khalid was knocked out w/a mind altering spell of some type. Both groups of spell casters slugged it out, Jaheira following w/Summon Insects, Imoen w/Melf’s Acid Arrow in a ******-for-tat & Dy went to Melf’s Minute Meteors. The RWs fired off a Color Spray to what effect I don’t know. In the end we killed them all. Good fight! That’s why we adventure!!

Treasure of Note:  As you can imagine, Dy and Immy had a good time sorting through the RWs treasure. Imoen ended up w/The Victor (Ring of Energy).
Current Disposition: Resting, recuperating & memorizing spells in Beregost (BW)

Next Steps:
Mutamin’s Garden

Level Up: Jaheira to Initiate of the 5th Circle (Druid/7) to accompany Myrmidon (Fighter/6) selected Cure Serious Wounds & Defensive Harmony to add to her divine spells. Dy to Enchanter (Mage/7), memorized Blur, Minor Sequencer & Fire Shield Red. She also changed out Dispel Magic for Remove Magic. Jaheira is going to cover the former.

I made it to Mutamin’s Garden after having ended up in the Spider Wood the first time I tried to go there. When we got there I met a talking Ghoul, who I allowed to be our guide on condition that he behave. He assisted by moving on point giving us advanced warning of threats. His assistance was more valuable when we came upon Basilisks as he was immune to their gaze. It turned out the ‘Garden’ was the product of a mad Gnomish Cleric named Mutamin. He used Basilisk’s to turn passersby to stone for his sick pleasure. W/the help of my followers, we defeated him & his Basilisk’s but it wasn’t easy. In our 2nd encounter, I used a Scroll of Protection from Petrification but we had nothing else to protect against them. Minsc took a ‘gaze’ & was petrified just as he used his Berserk ability. This came back to haunt us after we used a Stone to Flesh scroll to bring him back. We travelled w/him back to Beregost to recover but when his Berserk status wore off it killed him. We took his belongings to the Temple of the Morning to ask Kelddath to Raise him. He did. In a subsequent encounter in MG, Jaheira too, became petrified. We learned two important lessons here; 1. Disperse items like Stone to Flesh scrolls so that everyone that can use them can use them if needed. Up to now, we’d had Jaheira carrying all scrolls but when she became petrified we were unable to get one to use on her, 2. The spell, Protection from Petrification & its scroll counterpart last for 5-6 hours each. Good to know next time we encounter Basilisk’s.

Key Event:  As a knight, I love a challenge & honor will not allow me to bend to one. We crossed a foursome of adventurers, led by a boisterous woman named Kirian, a Cleric maybe. She was supported by an archer & a couple of knights of one type or another. They were tougher than we’d thought & we were in for a fight. As a spell caster, Dy, Immy & Jaheira did all in their power to keep Kirian from casting a spell & aimed their spells toward that end. I too, as a Wizard Slayer, initially attacked Kirian but in route stopped to battle the charging enemy knights. To add confusion to the fight, a trio of Flinds attacked us from the E. We defeated them all in a tough fight!!!

One of the things on my ‘bucket list’ was to visit Gullykin, the Hobbit village, sometime in my life.  I led my followers there after some time in & around Beregost. Once there, I met a delightful Hobbit named Gandolar who I take to me the de facto mayor. He asked if we were on the way to or from Durlag’s Tower but we told him we were here to visit Gullykin itself. He gladly invited us to do so & so we were off. It was quiet there save a few wolves & Kobolds until…

Key Event:  …we were attacked by a team of assassins led by a dual-wielding knight who said, “When you die, know that it was Molkar who killed you.” Molkar is dead now so it didn’t quite work that way. Jaheira annihilated Molkar’s mage w/her Wand of the Heavensw/o him ever getting off a spell.   I charged into melee w/Molkar himself & the dual started. Meanwhile his other two compatriots were dying @ my right & left hand. Molkar parried & as he stepped to my right & attempted to get behind me, he was cut down & the battle was over. Not quite the challenge that I expected w/all his bravado.

Posted Image

Afterword, Gandolar asked us if I’d look into the Firewine Ruins that we could reach thru a secret door in the winery. I accepted but knew a dungeon adventure would be a challenge w/o a thief. Using Minsc’s ability to Hide in Shadow & Jaheira’s spell Find Traps I separated the party widely & inched us thru the ruins behind their recon. When they found traps, we worked carefully to skirt them taking damage from FBs, LBs, MMs nonetheless here & there. We waded, ankle deep thru Kobold after Kobold after Kobold stinging us w/Arrows of Fire. We did manage to bring some peace to the ghosts of knights that had fallen in battles long ago – the victims of betrayal. We finally came upon the masterminds behind the Kobolds that were plaguing Gullykin. Another Ogre Mage assisted by a mage & 2 or 3 Flesh Golems. I used a Scroll of Magic Protection as soon as I heard incantations while Minsc, who was on point, quaffed a Potion of Magic Blocking. We took down the mage & 1 of the FGs while under fire from Kobold Commando’s w/Arrows of Fire. Jaheira & Khalid went after the Kobolds who were behind us while Minsc & I pushed forward toward the ogre Mage. Immy fired a Wand of Sleep & Dy a Wand of Fear into the vicinity hoping to take a couple of KCs out of the fight. I took out the OM while Minsc mopped up another FG. Khalid & Jaheira finished up their work. We went up a set of stairs that led to a Hobbit home where we were promptly attacked by & killed the owner who’d been on the take. Gandolar was pleased & we were happy to rid these peaceful people of the threat to their homes.

Started a new game with vanilla game plus DSoSC.

The vanilla game is a bit on the easy side if you are a Paladin or Lawful Good Cleric as there are items available which are a bit too powerful for the vanilla game.

Better would have been to have those items only available upon entering the DSoSC new areas.

In this game I have a Paladin with high stats who is good with bows large swords and later on spiked weapons as well.

Team members: Imoen, Ajantis, Dynaheir, Minsc, and Yeslick who was replaced by the mod cleric. having read the read through, I had already dumped most of Yeslick's equipment in Beregost, so as not to lose it when she joined.

Up to when I started the mod just after the second visit to Candlekeep, I did most areas but left a few quests unfinished in case of accidental reputation drop.

Since Drizzt attacked my army of gnolls without provocation, I felt justified in killing him. "Peaceful at heart?" No Way!
:D
I forgot to pick up the bow belonging to Hakt,:( but there was a good bow from the mod which I gave to Ajantis:) (Only useable by paladins) Ajantis died twice as a result of taking on wyverns that attacked the party:(. Poison was the problem. However, the 2000gp reward for the wyverns made it profitable as he cost about 1000gp to resurrect:). Dynaheir died in the BG sewers as a result of being poisoned by phase spiders.:( By that time I had more gold than I could spend. Made a mistake in not recharging t he necklace of missiles:(. It ran out in Candlekeep. Still have the other one though. :)
