Bad start but I'm always afraid of this. I never get Montaron & Xzar & I know I can use them, I just always feel their 'evil' would so emanate from them that even my CG PC wouldn't want them - especially w/Immy sayin', "I dunno Eric...'

Anyway, he whacked us both the first time. I tried again & he got me w/o Immy. Then he got me again. I actually paid enough for 5 'Raise Dead' spells when I only needed four.

Here's how I'm looking @ it. We got killed the first time. Then Khalid & Jaheira had us raised while Tarnesh was busy packin' up to leave to get his bounty. Then he realized what had happened & waited for an opportunity to pounce again.

Actually, what I did was had Immy & my PC both Hide in Shadows & we slipped past him into the Inn & linked up w/Khalid & Jaheira. That's supposed to simulate what had happened had the raised us as above & then brought us into the inn to heal us. Tarnesh didn't openly attack inside the Inn for fear of reprisal so we healed & planned to fight him again, which we did. When he saw us leaving he attacked out of desperation before we got away - and this time we won - barely.

Not perfect but I did pay for all of the raise Dead spells needed so I don't feel TOO cheesy!

Hard luck with the no-reload CKT. You might find it easier against casters to attack from different directions so that an area spell doesn't get everyone at once. If you feel that would be likely to imply too much game knowledge then having one person attack in melee and others retreat to extreme missile range as soon as an enemy caster reveals themself also works well.

Thanks Grond0.   And you're correct in your former statement about not wanting to do anything that would allow for use of my 'foreknowledge.'  I often walk right into battles which I don't believe my party could possible have 'foreknowledge' about.

I have used a technique of sending my thieves/scouts out ahead using 'Hide in Shadow' but for some reason I usually don't commence that until a little later in the game & by then I've usually taken a 'reload.'

Actually, I generally do best when I allow the AI of my NPCs to take over.  When I started fooling around w/my NPCs, I get in trouble.

I do however, take note of the strategy you mention in the second sentence above, 'having one person attack in melee & others retreat to extreme missile range as soon as the enemy caster reveals himself'.  I've used this effectively before but need to remember it more when the moment is upon me.

Another thing I'll need to remember is that this PC is much less a tank than my normal fighter or Paladin.  W/only Studded Leather Armor & a mediocre Dexterity I need to stay back and play the persona of a Ranger/Tracker & let Minsc do the 'up-front' work when I get to him.

Thanks again Grond0,  CKT

The road has been challenging, very challenging.

After meeting Khalid & Jaheira & forming a fast bond between the four of us we headed south & made it to Beregost w/little trouble. We were attacked by a Dwarven Assassin but worked well together to eliminate him.  Then while, travelling back & forth between the Thunderhammer Smithy & Feldepost’s Inn we kept passing this tall fellow. After a second or third pass we greeted him & he offered us service in support of his mistress, Silke. When it became apparent she wanted us to murder for her we refused & she attacked us. It became evident she was a Mage & we carefully spread out & then used patience & Hide in Shadows/Stealth to wait her out when she cast Invisibility on herself. We knew she was in the area & wouldn’t move far waiting for a chance to strike. We spread out around the outside of the building in pairs approaching cautiously. When she finally appeared she caught Imoen alone & was able to kill her. Upon hearing the ruckus we all converged & Silke killed Jaheira too. Khalid & I finally got to her & killed her. We collected the belonging's on Immy & Jaheira & after speaking w/the young Bard, Garrick & knowing he was not part of her evil schemes we invited him to join us.

Key Event:Here I made 3 fateful choices in gameplay.
1.     I elected not to have Garrick provide us ‘foreknowledge’ of the Temple of the Morning just E of Beregost & pretended ignorance requiring us to return to FAI for Raise Dead services.
2.     I chose not to ‘skip’ Coast Way & go straight to the FAI but to take the roads travelling thru CW w/just Eric, Khalid, & Garrick. At first level, all w/AC7, I knew the Kobolds on the road were likely to give us trouble. They did. To make matters worse, trying to skirt them we stumbled upon four Bandits & everyone was chasing us. Garrick was killed & Khalid & I were wounded w/o any Potions of Healing so we headed W to Lions Way but were afraid to ‘rest’ for fear that Garrick’s equipment would disappear. We tried in vain 3 times to ‘recover’ Garrick’s equipment but were eventually separated and/or killed each time.
3.     Finally we were able to recover ‘what we could – it’s all a blur now’ & went roundabout to FAI & got our party healed by Gellana. So, as if stupidity hadn’t had its way w/me enough already I decided to head back through the Coast Way this time headlong into the Bandit Leader & her cronies. I figured if we could get her we’d make some amends for our earlier debacle. Even w/o SCS she’s a handful at 1st level. The 5 of us were no match for her & we paid 3 times before I finally got us bloodied & to Beregost.

From there we pulled ourselves together but had lost most of our GPs ‘donating’ them to Gellana for services for all of us. We killed a couple of Ogrillons & some Hobgoblins on the South Beregost Road & North Nashkel Road. I almost bought the farm against some amazon warrior woman that challenged me to a dual, luckily it only cost me 20 GPs. We made it to Nashkel, tired & beaten & were attacked by a female assassin named Neira, a Cleric I think. Garrick cast his first spell, Color Spray, which did nothing to Neira but got us banished from the Nashkel Inn from now on & a mistaken arrow killed a patron & our reputation is in ‘chamber pot.’ We dragged the battle w/Naira out into the street & finally, beat her after slipping into the temple of Helm & the Nashkel Store to bolster our chances mid-battle. Luckily, Neira had gone behind the Nashkel Inn so we were able to prepare to meet her again by I'd enlisted the help of a Barbarian named Minsc who witnessed out battle & offered to help – although he came w/no armor or weapon. We finally found Neira coming back around between the Nashkel Inn & store & killed her. We tried to ask the innkeeper to forgive us but he punched Jaheira & knocked her out cold.

Treasure of note: We gathered an enchanted helmet from Neira, a unidentified Bastard Sword & a potion that looks of value. When we are able, we will identify these.

Current Disposition: We’ve had to make camp outside behind the Nashkel Inn in the woods. (Luckily, I have ‘Rest Anywhere’ as one of my mod adds so the guards don’t bother us – I always thought it was dumb not to be able to rest on the outskirts of town, or in an uninhabited cabin somewhere so I always use that mod.)

Next Steps:
We’ve outfitted Minsc in Splint Mail & we need to get him a 2HS & a CLBow. Then we need to go see if we can rescue his ‘witch’ he calls Dynahier. I’ve told Garrick he can travel w/us until we get her but then he’ll have to take his share of gold & treasure & find his way from there. He understands & is looking @ it as a chance to work on some new ballads.

Level Up: Garrick joined us @ 2nd level bard; Minsc @ 4th Lvl Barbarian (DARN IT! Just realized that. I purposely skipped making Minsc a Barbarian b/c I know it doesn’t work well w/Lvl 1 NPCs. I didn’t think it was that way w/Berserker. This could screw this game up!!!  Posted Image

Vorle the cavalier (currently Vorlette due to the girdle of gender)
Fresh from the no reload thread.

Intruders have stepped inside my henge. A heftily built woman introduces herself as Vorle while Imoen checks for traps. Edwin and Viconia stand idly by as I greet them and suggest they leave Cloakwood at once. Vorle(tte) tells me they are hunting down bandits so I decide to help them instead, and suggest we start with Peter of the North and then Seniyad.

Vorle(tte) is thrown out of her boots of avoidance by a lightning strike despite Seniyad picking up a number of injuries (reload1).

The lightning badly wounds Vorle(tte), her boots of grounding mitigating some of the damage. Seniyad and his druids aren't given a second chance. There is a cloak half hidden under a pile of tasloi, Imoen retrieves it and decides to wear it.

The tale of Tiber and Chelak is a sad one, and for a moment we almost add to the woe. I summon a dread wolf to stop an ettercap attacking as Vorle(tte) fights the other pets of Centeol off. Vorle(tte) swaps weapons and now seems to be unstoppable (other than accumulation of wounds).

He/she kills a hamadryad and then steps into a wyvern cave. One web and three entangles don't seem to help much but an Aganazzar scorcher, doom, magic missiles and Larloch's minor drains are more effective. Vorle(tte) still has to glug 3 healing potions but the cavenest is soon under our control.

Drasus and his gang attack us so we retaliate. Silence, web and entangle are followed with hold person, doom and more MM/LMD's.

Vorle(tte), Cavalier 4. 117 kills, Taugosz Khosann. 2HS +2.
Imoen, Thief 5. 40 kills, Drasus. Short bow.
Viconia, Cleric 5. 30 kills, Britik. Sling +1.
Edwin, Conjurer 4. 22 kills, Seniyad. Throwing daggers.
Faldorn, Druid 4. 3 kills, baby wyvern. Sling.

LOL Vorle(tte). Too funny.

Nice to see someone bringing a PC over here from the NRC to the MRC.  That's kinda how I thought it might work, but seems the hard-core NRCs 'DO or DIE' rather than continuing a dead dude over here.

Btw, I like the simple way you detail your party above.

For my part, I've given up on my current run of Eric the Huntsman b/c I took a break to do 2-weeks of 'honey-do's' for my wife & kinda lost interest. Plus, I was already concerned b/c I used Lvl1NPCs to make a Berserker out of Minsc, and like when I make him a Barbarian, it screws him up on level-up so, while I like my PC, I feel the game is unbalanced b/c I have a 4th level Berserker in my 2nd level party.  So...I'm going to reload Tutu (I've given up on BGEE) & start fresh, same PC, beginning on NRC (until I get to Tarnesh - LOL).

Good to see ya over here Gate.

Sorry to hear that Eric has lost his shine. I'd hoped that BG:EE would polish a gem instead of blinging it up (still waiting to try it myself with the next beta patch, only runs at about 10% speed on my laptop as it is).

Vorle(tte) and co have ventured into Cloakwood Mine. Hareishan and her co had Vorle(tte) down to 5hp as Edwin and Faldorn web and entangle themselves as well as the opposition. We get the upper hand from that encounter and Vorle(tte) gains a level by dissecting a pair of ghasts.

It takes two attempts to rest, Vorle(tte) taking the bandit pressure in her stride. Then we are down to the next level and clear that easily enough, picking up a magical buckler for Faldorn at the armoury. Only it's a shield (been a while since I detoured), so Viconia uses it instead.

Imoen removes four traps and Vorle(tte) uses her paladin immunities, ring of fire resistance and Spiders Bane to laugh in the face of Davaeorn. He retaliates with an ogre berserker so everybody else joins in for a few moments then Davaeorn is Baned. Our reputation soars (16) as we exit the mine and Viconia is already scheming to do something about it.

On to Baldur's Gate. Imoen reads a magical tome of dexterity to help her thieving skills then Vorle(tte) decides we need another companion. Imoen shakes her head in disbelief as the new addition is introduced...

Vorle is relieved, to say the least. "How did you manage that" he asked.

I should have kept my mouth shut, instead I replied "well, I just went like this then..." by which time the accursed girdle had clicked into place and I found myself looking at life from a new perspective. I add rule 117 to my ever-growing list: crafters of girdles shall be flayed with them. Rule 117a follows before the ink is dry: Together with Imoen whenever she laughs at my predicament (or lack of).

Rule 118: All thieves should treat their thieving as a special ability rather than a quick action. Rule 118a: & Imoen should keep her trap shut when I open doors in the city.

Rule 119: I shall have a Jardakian butler who is tough as nails when I ascend. His master pulped my ghast and only a skeleton and dread wolf kept him from doing the same to Vorle.

Rule 120: Smarty pants Edwin will read no more tomes of intelligence.

Finally located my journal - seems to keep getting misplaced.

We sorted out a few things in the city; Marek, Varci Roaringhorn, a couple of missing Balduran items. Mutamin and his rock garden was vey rapidly completed while Kirian and her gang did so well right up until our silent entangled web hold hit them.

I expected Edwin to haste me when a large group of gnolls ambush us; bit of a shock to see him use an Aganazzar scorcher on me instead, and Faldorn was badly hurt before battle commenced. She ran one way as I ran the other. Edwin then moved too and most of the gnolls burnt up. Sometimes he's a wild one.

Six sirines went down in quick succession and Imoen used their arrows of biting to shoot past two skeletons meaning three flesh golems fell before my haste wore off (this was a rare occasion where 4 of the party stood idle).

Viconia has read a tome of wisdom (Vorle will use bodily health once identified).

Vorle, Cavalier 6. 181 kills, Davaeorn. 2HS +2, Spiders Bane.
Imoen, Thief 6. 55 kills, Sirine. Short bow +2, Eagle Bow.
Viconia, Cleric 6. 36 kills, Lesser Basilisk. Sling +1.
Edwin, Conjurer 5. 36 kills, Greater Basilisk. Throwing daggers.
Faldorn, Druid 6. 9 kills, Cave Bear. Sling.
Tiax(ine), Cleric 5 / Thief 5. 4 kills, Lesser Basilisk. Sling.

Vorle and gang have been busy, their coronation attire gives an idea as to where they've been. Belt survived, Liia did not despite a hasted party including 3 skeletons and a nymph.

He really ought to upgrade his cloak; perhaps Imoen should have a word with Algernon.

Imoen misses, retreating to take a second shot as Vorle intercepts. Her third shot dispels and Sarevok misses.

Viconia, Faldorn and Tiax(ine) all cast doom.

Edwin webs as Faldorn entangles.
Imoen uses arrows of piercing.
Viconia is trying commands and doom to no avail.
Edwin completes his pair of webs and switches to Magic Missile.
Faldorn has summoned a dread wolf and is using a sling.
Tiax(ine) has summoned a ghast and is using a sling.

Vorle has glugged all his potions and moves away to heal as Sarevok finishes the wolf & ghast off, but Imoen is onto new arrows now (acid, ice or biting - can't remember which) and Sarevok doesn't react well to them.
Posted Image

1 reload (Seniyad), so won't be heading to Amn. Sarevok was hard work there, would have been hard work if his pals had joined in. Vorle had 2 more levels to take and that makes such a difference.

Vorle, Cavalier 6. 250 kills, Davaeorn.
Imoen, Thief 7. 76 kills, Greater Doppelganger.
Viconia, Cleric 7. 44 kills, Doom Guard.
Edwin, Conjurer 6. 46 kills, Greater Basilisk.
Faldorn, Druid 7. 16 kills, Desreta.
Tiax, Cleric 5 / Thief 6. 11 kills, Shoal the nereid.

Garrick of Beregost, a willing follower of William Thatcher of Candlekeep @ Nashkel Inn. William came to Beregost by way of Candlekeep via the Friendly Arm Inn (FAI). In between, William lost his step-father after they were forced to flee the safety of Candlekeep. While moving in the darkness, they were ambushed & William’s step-father, the Mage Gorion, was killed. From there, William travelled to the Friendly Arm Inn (FAI), overcoming an assassination attempt on his life on the steps of the inn. Later, William travelled back south through Coast Way from whence he came to Beregost, killing many a Gibberling along the way.

Posted Image

Master Thatcher accepted me into service two days ago after defeating my former mistress, Silke Rowena, who tried to double cross him into murdering innocent men. When William saw thru her scheme & refused to act, it brought her wrath on him & she attacked. At that time William was accompanied by Imoen, his oldest friend, a Swashbuckler; Khalid, an Archer; Jaheira, an Avenger; Montaron, an Assassin & Xzar, a Necromancer. When Silke attacked they pelted her with arrows & spells like Larloch’s Minor Drain, Doom, and Chromatic Orb. But Silke, knowing she was injured, escaped the onslaught using Invisibility. When she reappeared she blasted Montaron w/a Magic Missile & took him out of the fight. She followed doing the same to Imoen & Xzar. Protected by Ghost Armor, at times augmented by Mirror Image, Silke attacked William, Khalid & Jaheira w/a vengeance. They gave her space & waited on her spell protections to fail, trying to damage her w/arrows & sling stones. William moved in to melee w/her but w/her protections he was unable to land a blow w/his Flail & eventually took a blow from her Quarterstaff & had to back off. When her protections did wear off, Khalid started landing arrows. Then three of them then closed on her to melee, Khalid landing the deciding blow w/his Bastard Sword. Afterward, William accepted me into his service & released Montaron & Xzar.

I have travelled w/him since. He added another Ranger/Archer to our company, Kivan, who we met on the road to High Hedge Manor to identify an enchanted crossbow recovered from the battle w/Silke. That trip led us into an ambush of 12-16 skeleton’s w/throwing daggers that ripped us up, killing Khalid, Jaheira & Kivan. William showed his loyalty to his followers by going ‘Gibberling hunting’ to raise money to have the three of them raised. In so doing, he himself was victimized by Kobold arrows. Imoen & I took his belongings to The Temple of the Morning where Kelddath Ormlyr raised him. Eventually, William was able to raise enough gold to bring Kivan, Khalid & Jaheira back to us w/o selling the enchanted crossbow to do so & since I’m the only one who uses a crossbow, I feel good about my place here. Our journey from there took us thru the S Beregost Rd and the N Nashkel Rd to Nashkel. As soon as we arrived, we were attacked by yet another assassin, Neira by name, who appeared to be a Cleric of some type. William defeated her easily enough, drawing her into the street to keep from harming anyone in the inn, or worse yet, getting hemmed up in there.

Treasure of note: Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy +2 (Garrick)

Current Disposition: Resting @ the Nashkel Inn

Next Steps:
William hasn’t said where we go from here. There has been talk of the Nashkel Mines.

This is the same PC idea I had started in the NRC & I've come to roughly the same place I was. I started over when I realized I was using an outdated version of Level 1 NPCs & BG2_Tweaks.

With a PC 'TANK', two Archers, a Swashbuckler & a Druid/Avenger, I think I can get some mileage in BG1 - & still keep a Bard around to keep us company & be my herald - ala Geoffrey Chaucer in the movie, a Knights Tale from whence this PC comes. I even managed to work in my characterization of Simon the Summoner and Peter the Pardoner (from the movie & the Canterbury Tales) by letting Montaron & Xzar tag along for a while & loosely portray the latter. Good fun.

I really would like to add Branwen to my party but can't figure out who I'd drop to do so. Imoen is a must. Kivan & Khalid, as Archers are a must to provide cover for my PC Knight who is w/o a ranged weapon or shield. I created Jaheira as an Avenger & would hate to part w/her (although I have allowed for the option to 'separate pairs' if I decide otherwise. Finally, I really want to play Garrick the Bard as I am, again, loosely playing the knight from, 'A Knight's Tale,' who travels w/a herald, Geoffrey Chaucer. Oh well, leaders have to make hard decisions at times. We'll see how I feel when I visit the carnival in a few game sessions. I don't intend to p/u Minsc & Dynahier so I think I'm headed to the Mines straightway as opposed to diverting to the Gnoll Stronghold to save Minsc's witch. CT

Garrick of Beregost, a willing follower of William Thatcher of Candlekeep vicinity Nashkel Mines

My master, William led us to the Nashkel Mines, at the behest of Berrun Ghastkill, to investigate the disappearance of local miners & the source of tainted ore that the mine is producing. Williams first goal was to secure the area outside the mines which led us into a challenging battle w/a bounty hunter, Greyhawk, who we defeated using ranged attacks. We were all moved by the plight of Prism & were glad to defend him.   I was lucky enough to help William & my companions by shooting the bolt that killed Greyhawk.

William led us easily thru the 1st level of the mines but Jaheira was snuffed out in a battle w/Kobolds early on the 2nd so we had to return to Nalin @ the Temple of Helm in Nashkel to have her raised. We struggled through the 2nd & 3rd levels, continuously encountering groups of Kobolds w/their pinpricking, but deadly arrows. We used Potions of Healing (PoH) regularly & returned to Nashkel to purchase more or raise one or the other of us at The Temple of Helm frequently. William was insistent on the fall of any one of us that we return immediately to the Temple to bring them back to us. When we didn’t have the gold, William had us go Gibberling, Kobold & Bandit hunting in the Coast Way to find the necessary gold. When William once fell to their arrows the group did the same for him w/o hesitation.

William lead us to the 4th & final level where we dusted off a few more Kobolds, a couple of Grey Oozes & a Ghast before heading into a cave where William, Jaheira & Khalid fell in a battle w/an Evil Orc Cleric, Mulahey & what remained of his army of Kobolds & some skeletons. Imoen, Kivan & I were able to collect their personal items & make a trip to Nashkel where we had them raised. William then led us back & the second time was a charm. Kivan landed the arrow that killed Mulahey & then the mop up of Kobolds & Goblins was easy.

Holy Smoke! My Splint Mail has crumbled, my followers are all slain, & this guy has spells & Throwing Axes & I don't even use ranged weapons!!  Not good.  Not good @ all.

Jaheira, loyal follower of William Thatcher of Candlekeep @ the Nashkel Inn. I take up quill now in Garrick’s stead as he is no more. Our party was ambushed on returning from the Nashkel Mines by an assassin armed w/spells & axes. He laid all of us, but William, down in the dirt. While William was scrambling to survive his Splint Mail Armor crumbled & he was particularly vulnerable to Nimbul’s Throwing Axes but luckily by this point Nimbul was down to spell protections only as his offensive spells were apparently spent. William enlisted the aid of a Berserker, Minsc, who shortly after word smashed Nimbul & killed him w/his two-handed sword. William immediately took our personal belongings to Nalin but Garrick could no longer be raised.

Treasure of note: Bracers of Defense AC6 (William); Bracers of Archery (Khalid); Scrolls – Ch Orb, ID, Strength, Armor, H Person, C Person (TBD); Potions, Gems (TBD); Enchanted Halberd +1, Emeralds (sold)

Current Disposition: Nashkel Inn resting and preparing for our next advneture

Next Steps:
Help Minsc rescue ‘his witch Dynahier’ in return for his aid against Nimbul. We were ambushed by some Amazon’s in the Valley of the Tombs but William chose to avoid that confrontation then. I’m sure we’ll head back there after we aid Minsc.

Level Up: William promoted to Warrior & then Swordsman (Ftr/2&3); Imoen advanced to Footpad & Catpurse (Thf-Swklr/2&3) & improved her thieving skills.  Garrick made Sonnateer (Bard/3) & learned Charm Person before he died. Kivan & Khalid were both promoted to Strider (Rgr-Arch/2)

Darn. I wanted to try and play Garrick all the way through but my PC really needed help vs Nimbul & to run by Minsc over & over standing there in gleaming Plate w/a two-handed Sword was just too much. Unfortunately (& I didn't think about it @ the time) selecting Garrick as the party member to remove sealed his death warrant.

I'd already planned to give Garrick a 'sabbatical' to go write songs & poems so I could help Minsc w/Dynahier but I was pretty sure I was going to release Minsc after that & take Garrick back in. Oh well, don't have to worry about that now, do I?

Tough luck there CKT. Hope you can still have fun with the run. Looks like you've been having some pretty tough battles so far, having your party wiped out earlier...

Thanks Corey. Hope to add a new update soon. I know you tough guys handle these fights solo so getting my party wiped out versus Nimbul is embarrassing, but then again, Tarnesh, Silke, Karlat & Neira give me fits too. By the time I get to Tranzig, I've usually got it together, the Demon Knight in Durlag's Tower too...ofcourse then the futility starts all over again with Aec'Letek...

I will say that adding SCS (minus the tactical challenges) is much harder for me so every fight is a new experience to me, and tougher. Throw in the Hard Times mod as my baseline and you've got some challenges.

Up To Our Hips In Gnoll Carcasses!

Jaheira, loyal follower of William Thatcher of Candlekeep @ Nashkel Inn. After defeating Mulahey @ the Nashkel Mines it seems William has grown in stature & reputation. True to his word, William set his sights on rescuing Dynahier in payment of his debt to Minsc for his aid against the assassin Nimbul. He got Minsc to agree to a detour to Beregost/High Hedge/Temple of the Morning to try & get some enchanted items identified. Good thing too b/c William ended up w/Gauntlets of ogre Power & a Ring of Protection +1. While in High Hedge, bands of animated skeletons gave us fits w/their throwing knives, @ one point we were fighting at least a score of the things on all sides of us (Editor’s Note: darned SCS Better Calls for Help option?). I am beholden to William, who had me raised after I fell to the throwing knives.

William completed his mission to repay Minsc for his aid. Our adventure to the Gnoll Stronghold was divided into two forays. He returned us to Nashkel only once, to sell the booty we had obtained defeating the bands of Xvarts who serve the Gnolls & their Chieftain & to buy arrows for the archers. The Xvarts live in caves in the cliffs below the stronghold as the Gnolls don’t allow the ‘lesserXvarts to actually live in the stronghold. We moved through the Xvarts easily only taking a scratch or two, using maybe two Potions of Healing (PoH) just in case (JIC).

Key EventFollowing the short diversion to Nashkel, William led us back to the Gnoll Stronghold. The Gnolls were more of a challenge, what w/their Halberds which, when they connect, cause ugly wounds. Still, w/the deadly backup provided by Khalid & Kivan & less so by Imoen & I, Minsc & William tore thru the Gnoll Tribe & killed their Chieftain w/little trouble, although the final battle against a score or more of various Gnolls required our best.

We rescued Dynahier but William decided against adding her to his entourage. He contends that six is the right size and, as such, he chose to keep Kivan & dismiss Minsc since Minsc & Dynahier choose to travel together or not at all. Minsc’s blade has been brutal & once saved William & I fear William’s decision may haunt us yet. Still Kivan has been w/us since our first visit to the Beregost area, so he does have seniority & his arrows are deadly!

Treasure of note: Gauntlets of Ogre Power, Ring of Protection +1, Boots of the North (William); Quarter Staff +1 (Jaheira)

Current Disposition: Nashkel Inn

Next Steps:
After completing two challenging adventures @ the Nashkel Mines & Gnoll Stronghold, William is allowing us some R&R @ the Nashkel Carnival before we pursue Tranzig

Jaheira, loyal follower of William Thatcher of Candlekeep @ Nashkel Inn. William has decided to employee a Warrior-Priestess from the Northeim Isles as his Cleric so I am busying myself communing w/nature around the FAI & keeping a journal of William & his activities. Khalid continues to travel w/William & together w/Kivan they provide deadly ranged fire to Williams ever increasing prowess as a Hero Knight. The group is rounded out by Imoen, who is becoming a skilled Swashbuckler, & an annoying Gnome Illusionist named Quayle.

R&R @ the Carnival actually led William to the Priestess Branwen who was petrified. I was still w/him @ that time & was able to secure a Stone to Flesh scroll from a Gnome who was selling the scroll for 500gp. My quarterstaff got him to reduce it to free. Branwen joined us there as did Quayle.

From the Carnival William moved north to Beregost in search of Tranzig while Khalid & I continued on the FAI. Tranzig’s name & location were on the parchments William captured after killing Mulahey. Tranzig was quick & used a sleep spell as they were moving up the stairs & immobilized all but Kivan who was left to protect the rest who were defenseless. Unfortunately, Kivan alone was no match for Tranzig & William was killed. After visiting Kelddath @ the Temple of the Morning, William returned for his revenge but Tranzig was prepared again. This time though, Kivan & Imoen together, outlasted Tranzig. Branwen, who Tranzig had petrified, was avenged, although she preferred to do so herself.

Key EventIn the Coast Way, William led his followers in a pitched battle against 12 bandits including Deke & a second Bandit Leader. He & his followers absolutely slaughtered the bandits. All were dead in only a few moments. It was a brilliant victory & raised morale in the group after their disappointing performance versus Tranzig earlier.

Like shooting fish in a barrel w/ a crossbow!

From there, William led his followers through some live training as he cleared the rest of Coast Way, Lion’s Way & the FAI of all monsters & bandits. The toll of the dead included an Ogre, a dozen or so Xvarts, scores, it seemed, of Gibberling’s, Dire Wolves/Wolves, & Hobgoblins who were bothering travelers on the roads near FAI & had stolen a ring from a woman who lived there. William exacted revenge for her & returned her ring & his reputation for benevolence grows. When William asked Khalid to rejoin his group w/o me, I relented & so my love travels w/o me but I know he is safe w/William

Treasure of note: An Identify Scroll that Quayle was able write to his spellbook after 2 earlier failures. William took no chances this time & purchased a Potion of Genius to make certain Quayle learned the spell this time. This will save William GPs needed to identify enchanted items, gems, etc. Also, Splint Mail x2 (William, Branwen); Finally Imoen has created an artifact that actually increases her Thieving skills once a day. Darned if I know how she managed that but it’s connected to her constant studying of Tarnish’s spellbook.

Current Disposition: William & my beloved Khalid, along w/the rest of William’s followers are visiting the FAI so I get to visit my husband & learn of William’s adventures. There’s plenty to tell & plenty for me to capture in journal.

Next Steps:
At this time William is preparing to follow the Bandit trail to the Northeast into Peldvale &/or Larswood although William leans toward additional training, wanting to train in/around High Hedge & the Temple of the Morning before venturing NE. Not sure what he’ll choose yet.

Jaheira, loyal follower of William Thatcher of Candlekeep @ Nashkel Inn. William decided to lead his followers back to High Hedge for additional training in their joint combat skills.

They battled bands of skeletons, 12 & 16 @ a time. The battles were long & arduous as William directed his team as they eliminated 1 throwing dagger wielding skeleton @ a time. In the end they’d destroyed maybe 50 of the monsters, to the point where they couldn’t even carry off all the skulls, daggers & short swords the skeletons left behind.

After returning to town to sell the booty, William returned his followers to High Hedge & defeated more skeletons, maybe 36 more, 3 Huge Spiders, a Giant Spider, 6 Ghouls & 3 or 4 Gnolls. Finally High Hedge was cleansed as much as it can be, although the skeletons & spiders return over & over. More than once William & his party battled scores of Skeletons, Spiders & even cave Bears near High hedge Manor. Each time they fought their way to victory behind Williams Sword & his wicked Archers.

Key EventWilliams foray into the area around the temple wasn't as successful. Coming upon a pack of wolves, including 2 Vampiric Wolves the party was w/o the necessary enchanted weapons to defeat the latter. William fell victim to an immobilizing bite & had to be taken to Keldaath @ the temple of the morning. Once he was raised, & had rested, William returned the party to the same area intent on defeating all the non-Vampiric Wolves, which they did before retiring to Beregost to rest & plan further strategy.

Treasure of note: None

Current Disposition: resting @ the Red Sheaf.

Next Steps:
William wants to clear the area around the Temple but has only Imoen's Short Sword & Kivan's Elven Spear of Entanglement to battle the two Vampires Wolves found leading a pack. William firmly believes the party needs further training before heading northeast after the bandits.

Level Up: Kivan to Courser (Ranger-Archer/4); Quayle to Master Trickster (Mage-Illusionist/4)

Jaheira, loyal follower of William Thatcher of Candlekeep @ Nashkel Inn. Khalid sends word that William continued his efforts to train his followers in group combat techniques in the wilderness around The Temple of the Morning. That touch of stubbornness in William is shining brightly as he knows he can’t yet deal w/the Vampiric Wolves but insists on clearing everything else but…he lost Kivan & Quayle to one of the Vampiric Wolves & didn’t have enough GPs to have them raised. He marched off to Ulcaster to raise the gold.   The first foray into Ulcaster yielded enough gold to have Kivan raised as William, Khalid, Branwen & Imoen killed roughly 16 Hobgoblins of various types who carried booty of gold, miscellaneous scrolls & jewelry, short bows & B/Swords. Many of the Hobgoblins fired poison arrows so William & Branwen each had to use Antidotes once.

Key EventSubsequent forays into Ulcaster proved disastrous. William, trying to lead his followers on a second successful foray to capture gold to have Quayle raised, proved instead to bring down everyone but Kivan & William himself. At times the party faced, in a single battle roughly a score of zombies, which in & of themselves are a picnic but these were supported by nearly a dozen skeletons, half of which were armed w/longbows & a half dozen Kobold Commando’s w/Arrows of Fire. The party was torn apart & despite Williams’s efforts to escape & evade & collect all of the party’s equipment, time & again the weakened party was overwhelmed. Branwen fell first & in an effort to collect her splint mail & other equipment, Imoen fell when she suddenly slipped from Hiding in Shadows to picking up Branwen’s gear. She couldn’t carry the armor w/o being slowed & fell to the undead & Kobold Commandos in the north of Ulcaster canyon. William, severely wounded knew that if he slept, the equipment they were trying to salvage would be lost so they tried again from the south. Once again, Kivan, Hidden in Shadow was suddenly visible & had to run back toward William & Khalid. He got there but then Khalid was killed by a band of about 8 Hobgoblins w/poison arrows. When William & Kivan left, William knew it was useless to continue. Painfully, he sold Bracers of Defense AC6 &, even more, Bracers of Archery, in order to raise the gold to raise his party & resupply them.
