Also, Bring Hawke Back!

Brace yourself, snark attack incoming!

I think Hawke was a fine character in concept.  However, I dislike how Bioware has seemingly decided that you shouldn't have a lot of say in designing the main character anymore.  None of their major RPGs (and no, MMORPGs don't count) are going to have you pick your race and other aspects of your character.  DA seems to have gone the way of ME, where you are given a character and just have some ability to determine how he acts.  I think it is a shame that is how the games are going.  The worset part is DA doesn't even do much of anything with the story that depands on the particular background Hawke is given.  Pretty lame.

Anyhow, the character concept of Hawke was fine, complaints about the direction of the games aside.  The story just sucked.

So you have one game with a set character and one game with Origins and you think they're always doing set characters? yea...... you're basing a lot off of DA2.

I'm looking at ME2 as well, you know Bioware makes other games besides the DA line, after all.  Origins was made in a different time for Bioware, before the changes that have led to their current products happened.

Yes I know ME is another Bioware title, but you're acting like one game in the DA franchise with a set race equals all DA games (and future Bioware titles) will have a set race. And that's an awfully big thing to assume. "I know the future because this happened in the past!"

ME is centered around one character. DA is centered around not the various races, but Thedas. which means that some games in the series will have set races as the protagonist and others will have origins.

Lol, DA2 is an abortion of a game, it needs to be left alone to die.

Let's hope with DA3 they don't cane it out within a 1 year dev cycle and then release loads of bull**** hype marketing that comes across as better than anything in the actual game.

Oh DA2, how you burned me...

That's actually a pretty good indicator for predictions. At least much better than wishfully thinking Bioware will go back to non-voiced protagonists and Origins-style character prologues.

It's more the fact that one single character allows for voiced protagonist and paraphrases, and since Bioware's deal with the devil requires them to add this everywhere (despite its more than questionable alleged benefits), it's doubtful we'll go back to multiple choice.

I'm looking at how they are designing games now.  They have moved towards quicker, more actiony titles.  They want voice acting for the main character and seem to feel that means you have to limit the choices.  They want to get products out as quickly as possible (this is not all EA's doing).  All that points to fewer choices in large part because they have less time and fewer resources to allow players options.

I'd be surprised if DA3 gave you any racial choices.  I'm not saying it is impossible, but I do think it quite unlikely.

And you can believe Bioware hasn't dramatically changed how they are producing games if you want, but the former Bioware employee who was the lead designer for DA:O said Bioware wanted faster, cheaper games...and that's certainly what we are getting.

They could give you a racial choice with voice acting in DA3, but they'd have to make your character a really special snowflake if they wanted it to make sense and only have one voice actor (per gender). For instance, you're some kind of contructed being created by a magister, among many, he gives you all voice and teaches you how to speak so you all have the same sounding voice and accent.

They shot themselves in the foot by making accents racial rather than regional. A dorf surfacer who's lived his whole life in Val Royeaux should have a french accent, not american. With accents being regional rather than racial, one single VA would work for the three playable races, as long as they all came from the same place.

"One voice actor for several characters" Dunno why but it reminds me of oblivion. Might not be such a good idea :pinched:

Considering it'll be the voice of a single character (the protagonist) during a given run, I fail to see the problem.

Accents are regional. Zevran for example had an Antivian accent. Bodahn has a Fereldan accent.

After DA2 I'll take a wait and see approach.
If it goes back to its Origins roots it'll be a day 1 buy.
If not, I'll probably buy it when its price drops

There never was any doubt that we would see Dragon Age 3. Just hoping here that BioWare give this game a long development cycle and release it only when it's done.

Say what you will about Dragon Age 2, but they are coming out with another one. Personally I think they will combine the good elements of both games and make an outstanding game. Read the article below.

It's good that they are making new one, too bad that they are going to make in to a fps-hack&slash with straight tube to run

Hm. Mixed feeling on this one. Hope this time they take their time. But this time, I won't pre-order it.

Also: you know what DAII reminds me of? Of the Arrival DLC of ME2. Short and an prelude for the next installement. Difference: Arrival was just 4 Euro's - DAII was 50. Arrival at least showed some effort and was some fun to play - DAII wasn't/didn't.

Hopefully they will give it at least two years instead of rushing it again, Hawke still has some potential to be salvaged.

Agreed.. while I relatively enjoyed DA2 for the most part, it is very much a game that would have greatly benefited from more time in the oven.. a good 6-12 extra months of baking at least. My expectations are also particularly much higher now that I've played Witcher 2 for a few days... that game just draws you into it's world and characters quite wonderfully and has a far more mature, fleshed-out feeling to it (something DAO also had but lost in DA2).

So, release date of November 2012, anyone? Or do we think it'll get an extra few months and be pushed to February 2013..

If it'll be nov 2012 it will be rushed again, since they're still looking for people for the team. I hope for Q4 2013 or later.... but I won't get my hopes up.
