Folks!
I know I'm 3 years late and not that it matters much anymore, but I have finished my first run through ME1 (on normal) and Wao, I'm seriously stunned!!

What a fantastic fun ride this is! Yes of course I could nit-pick the one or other thing here and there, but overall this together with Oblivion is one of the very, very, VERY best games ever (PC gaming since the mid-90ies) loaded on my HD! Sincere Kudos and Thanks to the BW team who made this, you did great and I love you.

At times it got me really emotional, like when the Thorian coughed up the enthralled Asari girls (that was so disgusting) or when Shep rose from the rubble after the final battle... Man, I did feel bloody damn heroic at the end! Posted Image

I admit reading reviews never got me too excited about getting ME2, but now I will. I definitely want to see ME2 as well.

Just saying! Posted Image Happy gaming All!

To quote another classic game.
Welcome. Stay a while. Stay forever.

You still have at least 5 more playthroughs to go, one of each class, and dont forget that changing gender gives a slightly differnt playthrough, and being renegade instead of paragon also changes things as well, especially when it comes to importing your save into ME2.

Congrats! I know how you feel.

My friend just got an Xbox 360 a couple weeks ago after his PS3 YLOD'd, and so I convinced him to get ME1. He's said he's loving it so far, and he's going to eventually get ME2 once he's done.

Welcome to the community. Just don't let a few bad apples ruin your time here.

Yeah. ME1 felt great. The first time I played it I was just as stunned as the OP. I could explore a galaxy, fly a starship, drive a vehicle, fight, find lots of loot, talk to people, and have the feeling of progression. And most of all the story felt like a kind of mystery that I had to solve. The more I knew, the more questions it raised. The characters were well portrayed. If you can feel something for them or dislike their attitude then the game has struck gold for me. FemShep's voice acting was superb. The major missions and major planets were great and their sceneries were awesome. The final mission was a hell of a ride. I have completed the game 12 times. I still have one more character to finish - just a few assignments to go. :)

Thanks for the warning, I appreciate. I'm not too concerned however, by the time I will get round to play ME2 I will have forgotten most of any spoilers I read... the advantage of a porous mind... Posted Image

I agree about the voicing of Fem Shep. She's superb. Male Shep is good at times and definitely inferior at others. Did they change him for ME2? Ashley is also very well spoken, as is Tali. But basically all are good. I also like Dr Michel and her french accent, and I like Presley when he says "Yes, Sir!". I also like the indian guy who lost his wife. I have some Indian friends and colleagues and their english always makes me Posted Image   (THIS IS NOT MEANT TO OFFEND ANY INDIAN PEOPLE HANGING OUT HERE, PLEASE!!! Totally agree. I've never seen or played a game as well-directed as ME1... Another scene I was totally awed:

On Virmire when Shep talks to Wrex about the cure, and they both pull out their guns and Shep goes on to argue and the scene cuts back to Wrex where he just stares for a moment and then very subtly (sp??) blinks with his eye, and you know he just realized what Shep said (I think it was like those Krogans were only slaves), and that Shep was right... that was just brilliant "acting"... again, I've never seen anything like that in a videogame.

ME1 is a good game, no doubt. The story is excellent, but the engine and implementation have some flaws. Wait til you play ME2. Story and gameplay changes aside, it's *so* much more polished. All of the little glitches, crashes, and rubberbanding (etc, etc) are gone. I've lost count of my ME2 playthroughs, but I bet I could count the number of crashes to desktop on one hand. As a matter of fact, I can only think of three - and I'm pretty sure they were all graphics driver rendering issues.

It's sad, but it seems that there are so many unfinished games pushed out the door by publishers. Getting a game like ME2 which not only looks great (much better than ME1 imo), but runs smooth and is relatively bug- and glitch-free...well, it's awfully nice. The story and gameplay aren't bad either. ;p

Honestly, I'd cough up another 50 bucks for a copy of ME1 that uses the ME2 engine. In a heartbeat.

Congrats bud, and welcome to the clubhouse. Mass Effect still gives me pleasurable tingles when I play it. It's so good that it's sublime.

Nope, and they're not going to. Mark Meer is doing all three games and he does a fabulous job at it. Some claim that he got a lot better in ME2 but I personally can't say that since I happened to like his performance in ME1.

Awesome game. Though not to my true taste for an RPG, the VA PC worked very well for that game and the story, so I was really impressed by the Bioware team on that one. IMO, it is the greatest game story I have ever expereinced. Rich, deep, and the characters and companions were well thought-out and created for this game. For a futuristic RPG, I would hang it right there with KotOR or even better.

Glad you had that experience. I felt the same way in each of my playthroughs, ecstatic, epic (same with ME 2). It's just so fun, such a good game. Anyone who have only played ME 2 and not ME 1 i recommend ME 1, it's a lot of fun. And to all you who loves sci-fi and rpgs who have not played ME at all, take a look at it.

I don't understand why people like Jennifer Hale's voice acting better than Mark Meer's. When I first played femshep I found she put stresses on the wrong words and was even more monotone in places than Meer was.

Back on topic, though. Glad you enjoyed the game. Wish I could go back and play it for the first time, too!

hmm..after more than a year of visiting these forums i noticed that the vast majority (allmost all it seems) here played Shepard bouth as female and male ...i tried to play female but i realy can't ..my shepard is me in ME univers i'm called Shepard ..that's my digital self ...and i don't see anyone on these forums who stays faithfull to his own image in game (being female or male) and never played Shepard of the opposite sex

i lost count on my  ME1 playthroughs ( more then 10 i think  -  few next to others) and allmost 20 on ME2 ..but  i prefere  ME1's epic storyline more

I wonder if the voice actors can see the scenes when they have to act/speak. Because that would help them a lot in getting it "right". Whenever they come across bland, I get the impression maybe they did not have or did not see the in-game context and were a bit "clueless" how a scene/line should come out. Like when you read off a sheet of paper and do not see or know the "bigger picture". Just speculating.

Overall I did like Mark Meer too. However, I did see a youtube video of the scenes when he is romancing Liara, and in that branch of the story he seemed very bland to me. I did not see these scenes in my game cuz I pursued Ashley, and in these he was quite alright, as he was most of the times really. I have no problem with him.

Edit: I just went out before to my local videogame shop, but ME2 was sold out... Hahaa!!

Edit2: I prefer a male Shepard myself, but for my second game I yesterday created a female one, just to see her in action.

I doubt you'd see his face, but why would he be disappointed? I am guessing people should be disappointed because you were, maybe?

Wow, someone who actually played the first game FIRST. I salute you sir for not being a complete and utter a-hole, douchebag, knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, parasite like so many others who have the audacity to play the SECOND game FIRST.  You are truly a superior specimen. You, sir, did not defile yourself by ruining the awesomeness that is ME1 by playing ME2 first.
