I doubt you'd see his face, but why would he be disappointed? I am guessing people should be disappointed because you were, maybe?

:?

Probably because the ending itself is very anti-climatic and not as epic as ME1's ending.  But ME2 overall is a more enjoyable experience dispite the over-hyped suicide mission being anything but a suicide mission.

We shall see...

However, I found a pretty reliable (for me) test: If the gamers reviews avg. score on gamespot.com differs "substantially" from the official review score (like with DAO2 gamers 7.3 vs. 8.0 official), then I'm reluctant (and 8.0 on gamespot is pretty bad to start with).

For ME2, players rate the game even higher than gamespot, and for ME1 it is only 0.1 difference. If that means my gaming taste is like the average guy, fine. It seems to work for me. :-) So I'd rather be optimistic for ME2. Besides you can buy it now at a low price, so I'm easy.

How is it not a suicide mission?

I especailly don't trust Gamespot after the Jeff Gerstmann  episode, but anyway.....

Gaming site review mean little to me to be honest. What the actual gamers say is typically the best indicator. DA2 got relatively good scores from most gaming sites, but keep in mind many gaming sites are ad-dollar supported, so they cannot pan everything, even if the reviewer actually thinks the game is a stinker, else they lose out. Take gamer's opinions on DA2 and you get a whole different taste, and it isn't good. IMO, DA2 may be the worst game ever made by Bioware. Origins may be their best (well outside of BG). But I am an old school RPGer, so I have very hard to satisfy taste in RPGs.

DA2 IS the worst game ever in the history of gaming BASED on expectations and on what they finally delivered (ppl expected much much more and they got much much less ..me included)...the metacritic score of 3 was real

I absolutely agree with all you say. Me too I don't care much about the official score of gamespot or any other review mag site for exactly the reasons you cite. That's why I go only by the difference vs. their actual gamers reviews. A gamespot 9.0 confirmed by thousands of gamers (like in the cases of ME 1 and 2) is OK (for me). But if GS starts out with only an 8.0 for a game that is anticipated to be a SUREFIRE 9.0 at least, and gamers go even quite a bit lower than that, then I beware... Also the ratio of really disgruntled players vs. happy players is quite indicative.

DAO2 is just an example, I have played neither DAO1 nor DAO2 so have no own opinion on those. But if metacritics DAO2 was indeed 3, wao... I must go and read this now.

i'm talking about user score ofc...and i see now is gone "up" to 4.3 ..in the first month was 3
in  comparison ME2 user score on metacritic  was  and still is 9.0

If you're really into RPGs, then Origins will really appeal to you; it is by far the deeper role playing experience than ME ever will be. But, if you are an action oriented gamer, it may not appeal to you, so take that as you may in as far as to any consideration to getting Origins. You can get the Ultimate Edition on the cheap now, and that edition has all of the DLC included as well as the Awakening expansion.

Too add to the ME expereince. If you really play ME thoroughly and listen to ALL of the conversations (play it again, I insist), that story is really deep. Now, when (or if) you go on to get ME2, I strongly advise getting the "Lair of the Shadow Broker" DLC as well. It is possibly the best DLC ever made by Bioware. Needless to say, Liara T'Soni may be my all time favorite Bioware character after the chat I had with her in ME2.

If you haven't played ME2 yet, the transition to that game from ME1 is amazing.

Right after I beat ME1, I jumped right into ME2 and was literally blown away. The graphics were so much better and the gameplay was so much smoother, the combat is also alot better. Heck I think the music is better. My most memorable moment is probably the first time I stepped onto Omega.

Actually I'm bidding in an auction for ME2 right now :-)

Oh yes, I fully understand that the ME series is not "hardcore" RPG like Elder Scrolls which I totally love. But it's a shooter/RPG kinda hybrid which just WORKS and provides fantastic entertainment! It's great, and I enjoy it for what it is. Actually Bethesda could DEFINITELY learn a thing or two about voiceacting variety and directing of their game (or the main quest in Oblivion at least)... :-) Still looking forward to TES 5 of course. :-)

Make sure it's a new and sealed copy. They put in a one use code for the cerberus network which lets you download some content.

It's easier than most recruitment/loyalty missions and assuming you're not a complete retard there is really no greater risk involved than any other mission. It's so easy to get everyone out alive you hardly have to try.

On the otherhand I guess it is suicide mission seeing as the only way you can die or get anyone killed is on purpose (i.e. self inflicted death).

Mass effect 1 had some incredible moments. The ending was perhaps the best ending of any game I played. I've been preaching how great the storyline is for both ME 1 and 2 to all my gamer buds ( a couple of them still haven't experience the epic greatness of these games ).

Unfortunately, the combat/gameplay mechanics from ME2 makes it hard for me to replay ME1 despite ME1 having the better story overall.

hmm..after more than a year of visiting these forums i noticed that the vast majority (allmost all it seems) here played Shepard bouth as female and male ...i tried to play female but i realy can't ..my shepard is me in ME univers i'm called Shepard ..that's my digital self ...and i don't see anyone on these forums who stays faithfull to his own image in game (being female or male) and never played Shepard of the opposite sex

i lost count on my  ME1 playthroughs ( more then 10 i think  -  few next to others) and allmost 20 on ME2 ..but  i prefere  ME1's epic storyline more

I prefer playing male Shepard as well. Playing female in a singleplayer RPG just feels wrong for me. Oddly though i have no problems roleplaying women in online RPGs like NWN 2.

Folks!
I know I'm 3 years late and not that it matters much anymore, but I have finished my first run through ME1 (on normal) and Wao, I'm seriously stunned!!

What a fantastic fun ride this is! Yes of course I could nit-pick the one or other thing here and there, but overall this together with Oblivion is one of the very, very, VERY best games ever (PC gaming since the mid-90ies) loaded on my HD! Sincere Kudos and Thanks to the BW team who made this, you did great and I love you.

At times it got me really emotional, like when the Thorian coughed up the enthralled Asari girls (that was so disgusting) or when Shep rose from the rubble after the final battle... Man, I did feel bloody damn heroic at the end! Posted Image

I admit reading reviews never got me too excited about getting ME2, but now I will. I definitely want to see ME2 as well.

Just saying! Posted Image Happy gaming All!

I'm very jealous of you.:D I wish I had found out about it this year and be able to play both before ME3. Fortunately I bought ME1 in summer 2009, so ME2 wasn't that far away for me. Looks like you're in the same boat. :P Glad you liked it. Many people overlook the first and go straight for the second. The first game is the essence of the serries. Hopefully me3 will be able to recapture that feeling. As others are saying, ME2 doesn't have the same quality as ME1. But as stated above, hopefully ME3 will. Just don't go into ME2 expecting the standards of the first game in the story/rpg department to be the same.

Its nice to see somebody who accepts the type of RPG Mass effect is.
I know a lot of Elder Scroll players who hate ME just because its not stat heavy enough.
Hell even on these forums most people debate wether ME is a shooter with RPG elements or a RPG with shooter elements....

I think this is a big problem is a lot people just don't seem to accept that a game can be good even if they dislike it.
I've tried Oblivion and I didn't really like it, I just found it too complex and stat heavy and the charcters and story just weren't intresting enough for me to keep playing.

But I still think Oblivion is a good game. The enviroments are beautiful and there is sooo much content. But its just not the type of game I like. Dosen't mean the qualitys bad just isn't my thing....and I've gone completley off topic as always....

You will realize that ME2 is a piece of trash game compared to ME1 once you beat it. ME2 is good game by itself but compared to ME1 is a piece of horrible non epic trash except for some DLC.

I'm going to accept this...uh, 'compliment' as well since I went out of my way to play ME1 before ME2 once I decided to give the series a shot in April of 2010.

you have to bare in mind that its not the gameplay nor the graphics your playing for in Me1, its the story line and experience and more importantly your key decisions that will go with you to Me2 then the fun begins.

I've played it 4 times. It's seriously epic, isn't it? Easily one of the richest, most immersive worlds ever created in a game, with fantastic potential for future development.

What if you have a PS3 and can't play ME1 on PC? Then they couldn't play ME1 first. Plus, how would that make someone all those things you said?
