DA2 IS the worst game ever in the history of gaming BASED on expectations and on what they finally delivered (ppl expected much much more and they got much much less ..me included)...the metacritic score of 3 was real

I would rate DA2 a 5. Personally, the game was OK for a "game,"
but only if you liked mindless button-mashing gameplay. Everything that defines BioWare was absent in that game, however because the dull setting ruined everything.

Folks!
I know I'm 3 years late and not that it matters much anymore, but I have finished my first run through ME1 (on normal) and Wao, I'm seriously stunned!!

What a fantastic fun ride this is! Yes of course I could nit-pick the one or other thing here and there, but overall this together with Oblivion is one of the very, very, VERY best games ever (PC gaming since the mid-90ies) loaded on my HD! Sincere Kudos and Thanks to the BW team who made this, you did great and I love you.

At times it got me really emotional, like when the Thorian coughed up the enthralled Asari girls (that was so disgusting) or when Shep rose from the rubble after the final battle... Man, I did feel bloody damn heroic at the end! Posted Image

I admit reading reviews never got me too excited about getting ME2, but now I will. I definitely want to see ME2 as well.

Just saying! Posted Image Happy gaming All!

If you loved ME1 you will most likely LOVE LOVE LOVE ME2 lol.

Seriously. The suicide mission was gut wrenching -- hoping you chose the right people and did the right things. :D good luck and hope you get ME2 soon!

ME1 > ME2 story-wiseME2 > ME1 overall. imo.

I don't understand why people like Jennifer Hale's voice acting better than Mark Meer's. When I first played femshep I found she put stresses on the wrong words and was even more monotone in places than Meer was.

agreed; somehow I'm more used to Meer's VA. Im not saying Jennifer's not good, even supirior in some occasions, but generally prefer male shep VA.
& of course, glad OP has made a right choice:wizard:

Off topic: Would this by chance be from the Dead Money dlc for FNV? I feel like it is..

On Topic: ME1 is really good but the flaws killed some points for me, overall superb game and the ending is just a WOW factor.. ME2 left me pretty very impressed aswell, the suicide mission is awesome and the suspense is on a good scale. Not to mention I just bought Arrival DLC for ME2 and WOW.. I just want ME3 like NOW haha

Anyway, good luck on ME2!

The end of ME1 does indeed leave a great impression, overshadowing several flaws during the game before. It is my favourite final campaign hours in gaming history.

Now prepare yourself to be SUPER DISAPPOINTED by ME2!!!!
You have loved ME1... NOW YOU HAVE TO FORGET IT, because the second episode is just a bland corridor shooter. Gear in Space with useless dialogue cut-scene.
ME2 is more an action spin-off than a proper sequel. It has pracically nothing in common with ME1!
You are warned man!

You're totally right, it has NOTHING to do with ME1.
Would you like to explain how it doesn't relate to ME1, other than the fact that the combat is better and it has fewer RPG elements?

Have to agree with several people on here.

I'm glad you found your way to the ME universe and that you started with ME1.

However. You will find yourself going WTF! when you play the second one.

Wether you find the changes for the worse or for the better. ( You will will find out and decide that for yourself. ) ME2 is tottaly different from ME1.

I'll try and be as non spoilery as I can...

You don't have the same ship
You don't work for the Allaince
You don't have the same status
You don't have the Uncharted Worlds
You don't have the Mako
You don't have the ability to change teammates armour
You don't have loot
You don't have mods
You don't have 90% of the powers
You don't have weapon stats
You don't have seamless transitions
---- ( ie. elevator / airlock )
You don't have the ability to crouch
You don't have grenades
You don't have a helmet toggle
You don't have side missions given to you by verbal conversation
---- ( you have to randomly find them by scanning planets that take an ice age to reach thanks to the new star map system )
You don't get XP per kill
---- ( only per mission )

You have a pain in the arse boring planet scanning system
You have a new ammo system
You have a new star map system
You have a very large percentage of unrelated linear run and gun missions with obvious combat areas
---- ( If you find an area full of waist high boxes... you're about to be ambushed )
You have a fish tank
You have mission over screens
You have a new HUD

You can make your own mind up when you play it.  But for me ME2 was an almighty letdown and step backwards when compaired to ME1.

The whole game felt like it didn't know what to be, so it tried to be too many things at once and failed at all of them.

Not to mention I just felt like I was playing a game that was made up of nothing but unrelated DLC missions.

Too much of ME was changed just for the sake of change.  There's an old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it." Unfortunately Bioware did indeed try to fix what wasn't broke and in my opinion made it worse.

The impression on my first ME playthrough was stunning! Not to mention, I play ME2 before ME1, and it stills speak out loud.

Oh no.  It's from Impossible Mission.  Possibly my favorite game ever, second only to ME1 (maybe).

And to stay kinda on topic, I agree with about everything Orkboy said.  But, I do enjoy PLAYING ME2.  It's just sorta failed as a sequel.

However, I found a pretty reliable (for me) test: If the gamers reviews avg. score on gamespot.com differs "substantially" from the official review score (like with DAO2 gamers 7.3 vs. 8.0 official), then I'm reluctant (and 8.0 on gamespot is pretty bad to start with).

For ME2, players rate the game even higher than gamespot, and for ME1 it is only 0.1 difference. If that means my gaming taste is like the average guy, fine. It seems to work for me. :-) So I'd rather be optimistic for ME2. Besides you can buy it now at a low price, so I'm easy.

i flat out dont trust reviewers. why would you? theyre there to make money so a lot of the time theyre going to be bias. just go onto gaming forums and ask and get peoples opinions who have no reason to skew theyre views.

i only played the mass effect games a few months ago, my friend said try out this game because it's cool how choices effect the story. so i played me1 and was glued to the screen for about a week. i went in and bought me2 blind and within an hour something felt wrong. wheres the story? are these character missions going to last forever? the only reason i finished the game was because i liked the first one so much. its not a terrible game, it's better than average. but it ripped out the reasons i liked the first game - sense of scale, story, mystery - all replaced with shooting things in a corridor and making buddies the whole game. if you go in expecting a sequal you will be dissapointed

I'm very jealous of you.:D I wish I had found out about it this year and be able to play both before ME3. Fortunately I bought ME1 in summer 2009, so ME2 wasn't that far away for me. Looks like you're in the same boat. :P Glad you liked it. Many people overlook the first and go straight for the second. The first game is the essence of the serries. Hopefully me3 will be able to recapture that feeling. As others are saying, ME2 doesn't have the same quality as ME1. But as stated above, hopefully ME3 will. Just don't go into ME2 expecting the standards of the first game in the story/rpg department to be the same.

-Polite

ME2 has better story and RPG. It's main plot is inferior, but the writting and interactions are better, the game itself is more fun to play. ME2 is just a different type of story. And although I can understasnd you not likeing the style of the story (or collection of stories which is really about the team, not the Collectors), but to say it sucks is an overstatement.

I hated XP per kill as it meant taking many renegade paths equated to skipping content and therefore skipping experience. It they would just remove all randomly placed loot it would be perfect. If I want an item I should go buy it or pick it up off the body of an enemy. I hated having to search the battlefield to make sure I found all the credits. Especially when the current situation dictates a faster pace.

Zaeed: We need to hurry, Vigo is going to get away.

Shepard: Hold on, I gotta search every nook and cranny for credits.  I have no other means of making money.

Zaeed: The economy is so bad that even a galactic hero has to slum it.... that's sad...

I'm going to go ahead and say to ignore pretty much everyone here on Mass Effect 2 and form your own opinions instead of going in with someone else's expectations. Make your own opinion. And then come back and let us know what you think.

Absolutely.
Best to stay away from here until you've finished it, although be prepared for some drastic changes.

I know your "bidding" on a ME2 game, but I hope it is a new copy. I like to save a buck as well, but I am willing to pay for quality and Bioware delivered on both ME games.

Welcome. It's a great game, I'm still playing it 3 years since I first got it. ME2 is also good, just different. Enjoy them I enjoyed both male and female Shepards voices (in the minority here) and Loved a lot of the dialog. After my first play through, I would sometimes save the game, try out a different response option and if I didn't like it go back and try a different one. Fun stuff.

ME1 is still one of my favorite games ever.

I have like 20 playthroughs on it.

I think I have just a few less than that.  I did have some that when my xbox 360 crashed and I got a new one, instead of bringing them over to the new one I just started over.  Seemed like a good idea at the time, now I wish I still had my fist few play throughs.  Oh well.

I doubt you'd see his face, but why would he be disappointed? I am guessing people should be disappointed because you were, maybe?

:?

Probably because the ending itself is very anti-climatic and not as epic as ME1's ending.  But ME2 overall is a more enjoyable experience dispite the over-hyped suicide mission being anything but a suicide mission.

How is it not a suicide mission?

[SPOILERS] What??? it's not a suicide mission? [SPOILERS] I know they're not allowed, but they're "spoiling" it up by giving details of the last mission. imad.

Tommy... my name's tommy too lol xd . "Tommies everywhere!" :P

The past week i've finished ME1, from steam's offer, it was only 4.99 u$d. (You should have an Steam Account, they really rock:D), and got ME2 from DA2 offer (i'm so dissapointed by DA2<_<... you wouldn't know) I began playing it, played it once, and i was so ****ing excited by it, that i've sworn not to play it again til i've finished ME1...

Yesterday i've won ME2 with my ME1 save:wizard:... both with 100% paragon... IT'S SO ****ING WORTH IT:devil:... but: here's the important thing:  I STRONGLY RECOMEND YOU TO BUY KASUMI, ARRIVAL, SHADOW BROKER AND OVERLORD DLC BEFORE PLAYING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!... IMO, it's a whole other experience with all those DLCs... and, if you can afford it, try to buy every single one of those DLCs.

It changes the game drastically.

I congratulate you, even though i've finished ME1 only past week, now i've gotta play ME1 renegade, and ME2 too... and Neutral... Then the project that i call "what would I do"... and that's it xD

It's one of the BEST RPGs that i've played. Most of my favourtie rpgs are from bioware. The best one ever its the Fallout series, i must say. I KNOW, IT'S NOT FROM BIOWARE... but it's a game that made me see the world from a different point of view. I know that Fallout saga it's not far from what could happen.

Well, sorry for the wall text.

ENJOY!

Like I said to another poster. It's only suicide in the fact that you have to intentional get people or yourself killed. Only a complete ****g moron would get anyone killed by mistake. So, it's a suicde mission only in the fact that any death is self inflicted.  Posted Image

I loved ME2 as well, just in a pretty much totally different way than the deep and abiding love I feel for ME1.  I described it in another thread as "the right way to dumb down an RPG" (as opposed to DA2).

ME1 was outstanding.

Dear All, wao I didn't expect this thread to have so much life in it! :o

Ok so I won the auction for ME2, it says it is a factory-new copy. I remember I did pay full price for ME1 cause I bought that when it came out new back then. Just sat on my shelf for three years... silly me... I hear what you're saying pro and con about ME2, I will try to be open minded and see how it plays out for me.

The main question I ask a game is simple: Can you entertain me? I can be entertained in various fashions and by a variety of game genres. I try to like most games. ME1 is definitely a pinnacle, so WHATEVER comes after has a hard(er) time finding love.

Thanks for mentioning the various DLC's for ME2. Yeah I guess shedding a bit of money for them won't ruin me, so I will check into them. It will be a little while until I get to play ME2, but it won't be in 3 years because I want to be ready for ME3 come next spring. Posted Image

I'm now on a ME1 Hardcore playthrough, and one detail I note is that blasting with the shotgun it slams the enemies around, even without Hammer ammo. Posted Image It looks so awesome and gives me a big grin each time. I have not seen this on Normal, but maybe being totally Noob I was too absorbed looking elsewhere, and I did'nt use the shotgun all that much. Posted Image
