Bioware fans downvoting TW2 Metacritic user score, why?

If you check out the user reviews for The Witcher 2 on Metacritic, all of the zero scoring users gave DA2 a 10/10 or 9/10. Why? Was DA2 the second coming of Christ and The Witcher 2 is trite dribble where you'd rather eat fresh horse **** than play it? As a disclaimer, I haven't played TW2 very much (only about 5 hours), but I did play through Dragon Age 2 for 70 hours. Anyone who gives DA2 a 10/10 should give TW2 at least 5/10 or higher because so much is similar. Both are RPGs, so that's worth at least a point, right? Both have pretty good stories, characters, voice acting, etc. On the graphics side, TW2 blows DA2 away both artistically and technically, but graphics don't make the game.
It seems that either DA2 fanboys are butthurt and want to destroy any competing game, or the review scale has lost most of what it meant when I grew up. In my day, 10/10 was a masterpiece, and 0/10 was something so broken, buggy, and downright terrible that playing it worsened your day. But now? People give 10/10 to games they like, and 0/10 to games they don't like. I guess that's the point of a subjective review system, but opinions should have no weight in a review score, only with how you formulate your arguments justifying any given score, and I've yet to see one of TW2's naysayers come up with better arguments than "I don't like this game, therefore it is **** incarnate".

Yup this is old news.
I seldom read reviews so it was news to me when I checked it out this morning.
I just don't understand why someone can't like both. It shouldn't be a binary choice where if you like one, you hate the other; it's a continuum with varying level of like and hate.

I don't for this very reason. I ain't even mad that people give either game good or bad scores, I'm more disappointed in each respective community since this kind of behavior really shows the matury of each consumer base.

Ask the Witcher fanboys who can't have a nights sleep without letting us all know how wonderful it is.

I understand but there have been a lot of Witcher 2 threads and all of us who are playing it or want some info are discussing it http://social.biowar...ex/5214483/142] here[/url] The game is so good I bought 2 copies though.

Are you seriously upset that likeminded gamers want to share games with you? If a person tells you "this game is great, you should play it", do you behead them and stick to your guns?

LOL I'm gonna assume your new to this site.
This is how any Witcher 2 topic goes (and there are a lot)
"Witcher 2 owns Bioware in every sense of the word and your not a real gamer if you love it and hate Bioware and everything they do"
Its not about telling me about an interesting game.. its about shoving said game down my throat and putting a gun to my head telling me to play it.

The only cRPG I have ever given 10/10 was BG2, and in hindsight I should have given it 9/10, because even that has it's flaws.
With silly kids destroying meta-critics, and paid off "professional" reviewers, I go by mouth to mouth these days. If in doubt, me an my friends buy one copy and check it out. Like we did with DA2.

Because the world is full of jerks. I didn't like DA2, so I gave it 4/10. I thought the Witcher interesting, but I dislike fixed protagonists. 6/10. I liked DA:O a lot. 7.5/10.

They should have a group of people vote on the relevance of a review. People who judge a review on how well-written it is, does it explain the pros and cons effectively, does the review pass a judgement test on whether or not the game was played, and is the review really relevant to an uninformed buyer.

Metacritics really needs some sort of Slashdot like "meta-moderation" sort of scheme.

As a member of my uni's debate team I have to agree with you. Reviews need to stop being "this aspect is bad therefore the game is bad" when said aspect could be construed as good to someone with a totally differing gaming mindset. People need to stop attacking things they hate and present it as universal fact, and instead offer insight to how the thing is bad in context but good in others. Dragon Age 2 had largely only one city, recycled dungeons, and no real freedom in how you accomplish things (doing the good or bad thing came to the same end for the most part), but that doesn't mean I hate it based on these few points. I really liked DA2 and would give it an 8/10 easily, but to discredit the flaws would be stupid for the same reason people giving 0/10 to TW2 without playing it is stupid.

Almost like that.
Voting 6 till 9 from 10 is more just, if you like a good game or don't like it.

So how does one ****** on a thread?

Bioware is still my favorite developer and CDProjekt is doing great. I like both am I a paradox? I didn't LOVE DA2 but I enjoyed it. I played it about 4 times. Mass Effect 1 about 10 times and ME2 14 times. So Bioware recently didn't do well on their previous game all we can hope is that they surge of rpgs this year make them wise up and deliver a good game.
i enjoyed DA2 as well, but if you flat out say "The Witcher 2 is way better, both subjectively and objectively" then for some reason people still get riled up
