Well, it's 12 minutes past 6 p.m. here in Helsinki, the sun is shining, and it's a very nice evening. We should be 12 minutes into the global earthquake reaching Helsinki, and the faithful having been raptured away. And Harold Camping is probably starting to sweat right about now.

Wait untill every timezone has gone past 6pm, it would be pretty cool to witness the end of humanity.

In the UK we still have a hour and 23 mins to go, i have 3 ectasy pills ready so i have a big massive trip.

I am sure that somewhere someone has died. It is 9:00am where I live, so we have a few hours till Rapture time. Besides that I am certain that we will all destroy ourselves be it w/war or some pandemic.

I am just going to enjoy my days and life before it end, we have much to do well I have much to accomplish before the end. I too still want to try and do everything.

Youre right. I still have to beat Origins and Mass Effect 2 2 more times. Then not to mention Mass 3....

The mayan "prediction" is as cooky as all the others. First, it's not a prediction by Mayans, it's someone in modern times tacking on an apocalypse prediction on to an arbitrary event in the Mayan calendar. That's pretty much what all apocalypse predictions are though - someone claiming special knowledge, or that some past civilization had speacial knowledge of how and when the world is going to end, despite people (now or back then) not being even able to predict next week's weather accurately.

The most interesting thing about these predictions is not whether or not they turn out to be true (they are manifestly false, and I can bet my left nut... ok, the right one too... on that), but the question of why these end of the world fantasies are undeniably so very appealing to people across the world.

I suspect it has something to do with a desire to get away from the daily grind, from your every-day problems, in one fell swoop - to have the board wiped clean, and starting off from a clean slate. It might be also a desire for a complete change in one's life, to a simpler "survivalist" existence that seems appealing when you're paying your bills or doing some infernal, necessary paperwork.

It may also give one a sense of grand purpose, if one believes that one is in possession of some special world shattering knowledge, and is tasked with spreading the message. I have no doubt that Harold Camping's followers had (until today at least), a great sense of belonging and purpose, and being "chosen" for something exceptional.

There's definite appeal to that, but I don't think we should confuse our fantasies with what is actually, realistically, likely to happen. We should use critical thinking, and proper research to distinguish reality from fantasy - and then indulge in fantasy as an entertaining, temporary escape, without building our lives on it.

I want to meet that crazy preacher and laugh at him and laugh at the guy who spent his life savings on rapture posters. Police should arrest them and put them into stockings so we can laugh at them. He must feel like a right trollop now.

If the guy had bothered to open a Bible, he would see that The Bible doesn't have a date for the end of the world and it certainly isn't ending as in being destroyed.

Apparently the time we die is 6pm in America. So for us Brits, we die at 1am.

EDIT: I am so bored, need something exciting to happen. Hopefully next year will be interesting.
