In cases like these, my logical side comes up. I would say Thane and Mordin because both should be incapacitated at this point. One of age, other of disease.
Squadmates you DONT want back in ME3?

Liara.
Her becoming another of Shepard's hired guns makes LOTSB pointless.

I was never very keen on Jack. I'm fine with the rest really, although Grunt was a bit dull.

I still would have loved to have seen us get a choice of all our previous and new squad mates, no one forced upon us, as we all have our own personal likes and dislikes....choosing our own squad from the extensive pool (including DLC's) I think would have kept everyone happy.

Now that I recall.
Definitely don't want Jack either.
Grunt eh.

Honestly, there's no one I don't want to see, at least as a cameo, if only so the game feels like a worthy culmination of Shepard's storyline. That being said, here's a list of people I think could be NPC'd, in some capacity:
Grunt. He doesn't really do much besides be a Krogan. I'd much rather he just sort of be there in the background on Tuchanka.
Zaeed was only ever in it for the money anyway.
Jacob is like Grunt, better as a part of the scenery. His only real role in ME2 was as a foil to the higher-ups in Cerberus, anyway.
Samara could be pretty interesting off the squad. I imagine that the conflict between Shep's methods and the Justicar code would make for an interesting subplot, when she's no longer working for Shepard.
Finally, unless you gained her trust in ME2, I see Jack leaving as soon as the suicide mission ends.
Oh. Also, I don't want anyone who died in the first or second games being alive in ME3. Even if there's some Lazarus-type shenanigan.

Debating arguments on an internet forum? What have we come to?
I don't want Grunt to come back since he should be serving with his clan in ME3.

Honestly?
Whoever YOUR favorite character is! Yeah, eat that losers!
Hah, I did it again!!
Okay but seriously, Miranda. I didn't like her, like, at all. That said anyone who is not in my immediate collection of little character stamps in my insignia I could probably stand to lose as well.

Honestly? I think the currently confirmed number of squadmates (everyone of the old team in ME1 except Wrex and the one that didn't survive the nuke) is enough for me.

Just Liara. I perfectly fine with anyone else returning but I feel like Liara is considerably, considerably more valuable as the SB.
It isn't a matter of whether someone else can do the job, it's a matter of someone else doing the job as well and being as motivated.
The only other people that I would trust to be motivated enough are Garrus and Tali and possibly VS. But they aren't scientists; they don't have doctorates or the academic and intellectual background to do the job. Liara does.

I'd be fine with Liara staying a SB and Tali coming back to Flotilla trying to organise a pease with Geth. But it won't happen.GodWood wrote...

Well let me first say that I think there is a difference between hating a character and hating a turn the story takes because of a certain character.
In terms of who I hated, it would be Jack. The fact that she is not optional inflames that emotion. If Samara were mandatory and Jack was optional I probably would not feel so bad. I could tolerate Jack if she were optional in ME3 but I would rather she not feature in the game at all. Of course I could have her killed in ME2 to make sure but I had already completed the bulk of my playthroughs before I figured out how to make that happen.
Though I have nothing against Liara, having her as a squad mate would make LOTSB kind of pointless. Having her as an intelligence provider and briefer would make more sense - but its been decided and thats that.
I don't like Tali but in fairness the game gives you plenty of opportunity to screw her over. In ME1 you can refuse to help her with her by not giving her the geth disc. In ME2 you can expose her father. So I kept her alive (despite not being loyal) just to see what I can do in ME3.
I know Grunt and Miranda don't have a lot of fans, but I enjoyed their company the most in ME2
Either way I would like to see BioWare tell a great story regardless of fan favorites instead of pandering - not that I claim that is what is happening now.

Miranda, her morals suck and I just plain dispise her.
Zaeed, I don't care for his "revenge" but then again, I enjoyed throwing a wrench in his revenge plan.
Tali, she needs to go back to the fleet, something should concern about a possibility to help the Quarians save their sun and go home.
Jack, I expect her to be out killing people between ME2 and 3, just seems like something she'd do (and I'm amaze she's not entirely stir crazy in her room).
Jacob, needs to go out, find himself, something interesting for his character, I didn't really feel for him.
Samara, she said she was only there for the Suicide Mission, right? Gotta be a Justicar.
Liara, everyone aboves got the same idea, doesn't fit the arc they gave her character.
That should be good enough, anyways, I enjoy playing with the rest of the characters. With that being said, it'd be cool to have a Batarian on the team, ME2 was the first time I saw them, kinda freaked me out and I hated them for being new. Kinda to repay them for the thought xD

Eh, I liked pretty much every character except for Morinth/Samara (because they are totally undercooked characters) and the humans (other than Jack) because they are all so boring in every way. But if this isn't about "liking" them, and just who you think they could stand to cut from your field squad?
Well then I'd still cut all the humans and Samara/Morinth. I agree that Liara shouldn't be back on your team, she's too important. Jack serves the same purpose and seems more like she should be in combat anyway.
