In no particular order...

Samara/Morinth - Because they have more variables for death than most of the others. I never picked up Morinth, but I don't really see why she'd stick around. And although I really liked Samara, I think she has the least reason to stay. She can show up in some awesome cameo, I just don't want her on the squad.

Wrex - I wouldn't tear him away from trying to unite his people for all the credits in the galaxy. He can lead the krogan once I get them on my side, but he shouldn't be on Shepard's team. He has too much to do.

Zaeed/Kasumi - They're DLC. They're designed to be non-essentials. I've never played Kasumi's DLC, but I can't imagine she's THAT awesome that I'd take her over another full squaddie, especially since I've heard she does the same irritating one-sided conversation bit that Zaeed does. I already have one purple-hooded girl who is good with tech and doesn't have anything better to do but hang out with Shepard, I don't need a spare.

Jacob - With Vega guaranteed, I don't need another 'buddy soldier'. And that's really all Jacob was good for. Even his romance didn't imply any long-term commitments.

Thane - I don't know that he has much more to say. There are only two reasons I can think of to bring him back; to watch him die in some dramatic scene or to cure him. I'd be fine with him as a temporary squadmate, but I don't think that a permanent spot should be used just for that one loose end. If he did end up a full squadmate I wouldn't be devastated or anything, I'm just not interested in seeing him return.

Legion - Legion to me was more of a concept than a character. He literally had no personality. I thought he was cool, but that doesn't mean I'd rather have him than a character who has more to say than an information dump on the geth. Shepard doesn't really need Legion around for anything but the mission to gain the geth's loyalty anyway, so he can be a temp squaddie or cameo there.

Everyone else is either already announced or I'm fine with them coming back.

Dead characters should stay dead (my playthrough: Garrus, Kaidan, Tali). No Lazarus Project II ^_^

Zaeed/Grunt/Thane/Jacob...I wouldn't mind seeing them as squadmates, but I wouldn't miss them if they weren't   either.

Best case scenario I want everyone to come back, there was no character who I felt would make the game better with his/her absence. As far as who will be cut....

Jacob, probably since his role will be replaced by the James Sanders guy
Mordin, he's old and probably will take a more passive role
Samara, she said she was gonna leave but she might come back as a cameo when you try to convince the asari to help fight the Reapers
Thane, he's gonna die but I kinda wanna see someone take his place because he had an awesome character model
Jack, I'm still trying to figure out how she will fit in the story. I don't like her but her omission from the 3rd game would be a bad idea.
Zaaed and Kasumi are DLC, plus Zaeed was gonna retire after ME2 (his dossier on his retirement plans was hilarious)

Can I just say I loved this post? HAHA made me chuckle -- especially the part about Jack. <3

In all honesty though.. I have to agree with you. I can't stand Jack and I think she is overrated for sure. They better change her up or get rid of her entirely because she was sh*t. At least compared to Samara's character.

Tali was for sure better in ME1 (assuming that was a typo of yours) she ended up sucking in ME2 being way too overly specialized. If she wasn't fighting geth she was basically useless.

That was one thing I didn't like. Some characters felt totally and completely useless. Anything to do with the main story and fighting reapers you would never use Garrus or Tali or anyone that did not have biotics. An exception to that would be Mordin who was useful b/c of his incinerate. But basically you were limited to Samara, Thane, Miranda, and Mordin (depending)...I don't know, I guess it was kind of frustrating when I wanted someone in my party but thought "I can't because s/he will contribute absolutely nothing to the gameplay and I could die."

Maybe others have a different view on this but, personally, I felt limited to the characters I should be using.

Glad you liked it:) I indeed meant ME2 since Tali had finally began to fill some shoes aside from the cute young girl. She's attempted to (and failed) take leadership responsibilities and her loyalty mission added depth. But I will be the first to admit that I haven't played ME1 since my fourth Xbox broke back in 2008, so it is very very likely that I am wrong on that issue.

Tali, Grunt, and Garrus, I never saw their appeal.

Everyone has their favorites and I'm not so selfish as to expect Bioware to cater to ME at the expense of everyone else. The only character I'd be truly unhappy dealing with would be Morinth. Characters that don't move me at all, but I can tolerate would be Thane and Miranda. Grunt is okay, but my Wrex is alive and I'd rather have him.

Also, I'd like to add that there are characters I don't like personally, but like the fact that they're in the game, like Jack and Zaeed. I don't need my squad-mates to *sniffle* hold hands and feel the love.

I thought Miranda would be such a character I'd love to hate, an Alpha Female to challenge my Shepard, but from the first conversation on the Normandy the bad-ass top Cerberus operative starts her rapid transformation to Shepard cheerleader. But I really want her back, because the amount of screaming and wailing in these forums by her fans would be deafening.

I am saying not going to bother having a go about that comment on that post considering I am a miranda fan.

**EDIT** changed my mind it is worth commenting on (no offence but I am certain that every fan club would react the same if there favourite character did not appear in ME3 whether its Miranda, or even Conrad Verner you will get people complaining just got to look at the Mako and Virmire survivors posts as proof from when ME2 came out)

But the character I wouldn't care about not having is Jack I find her the character I do actually love hating she is so annoying and rude (its not just me being a miranda fan) but I just find her so unpleasant even with shepherd I would rather have squad members who seem to want to fight with you NOT against you.

Zaeed was recruited for the money. No more money and mission's done.
Kasumi was huggable but she volunteered for the box, now she has it and would probably like to spend time with it.
Samara/Morinth both admitted to follow you very specifically because of owed favors. Now they're replayed.
Jacob, while I enjoyed the prospect of a moral character I found he was too much of a blank slate. He never questioned himself or discovered anything interesting.
Mordin is too old, enough said.
Thane should have difficulties breathing.
Grunt has a clan, a purpose, and potential mate offers. He should return to the clan and rally the Krogan with Wrex.

Those are the story reasons why people shouldn't return. Now for the ones I dislike:

Jack makes me angry. I like to think of myself as a cultured person who hardly curses and has never drank/done drugs. So here is some crazy bald chick covered in tattoos, used to drugs and murder, and drops f-bombs every time she opens her mouth. I tried romancing her and always speak to her, but unless Bioware pulls a full 180 that woman is as good as dead.

Tali was just too bland. She was far more interesting in ME2 but didn't have enough time/dialogue to truly develop her own personality. If they keep improving her she has potential though.

Garrus, old buddy old pal. You were with me and Ashley every step in ME1, even killing Saren, and helped me and Miranda in ME2 up to the Reaper fight. But I swear to whatever you Turians worship, if you keep wasting time calibrating those guns I'll shoot you myself.

So basically everybody?

I'm fine with everyone coming back, or at least having the potential to return. No need to deprive people of their favourites.

Those I can do without:

Jacob - I don't dislike him, but I got seriously tired of him saluting so damn much.
Thane - Religious, quiet and philosophical killer is an archetype I've never cared for.
Legion - Too much time killing Geth I guess.
Samara - Didn't like the way she talked. Nothing tangible really.

Those that I definitely want back:

Tali - Fun and mysterious. I like her intelligent Innocence.
Jack - Tattooed bald chick with a bad attitude and a foul mouth? 10 years ago I would have been buying her drinks.
Garrus - Went from being my least favourite in ME1 to an awesome addition in ME2.
Joker - I want another mission with Joker around. His mission was awesome and one of the most heroic segments in the series.

So long as I can have back Garrus, Legion and Kasumi, with Garrus being my second in command, I will have a very happy Shep...^_^...as for the rest, they have their fans....so would love all to come back and maybe be able to choose our own squads from that pool.

I would like all squadmates to return, but not necessarily as squadmates. Like Mordin and Tali would still be on the ship in the science lab and engineering, but they wouldn't go on missions.

I hope there's and option to have Dr. Chakwas run Jenkins through the Lazarus Project, Cerberus soldiers lack the same enthusiasm.

Samara/Morinth - Samara isn't very interesting to me and didn't seem to bring much to the story. Morinth kills people for no other reason than her personal pleasure :/ (I know she is addicted to it, but it was her choice to leave the temple or wherever it is that her kind are kept apart)

Miranda - I admire her ruthlessness and strength, but I didn't like her sudden change of heart after a mission or two. She warms up to Shepard out of nowhere, and at the end she is willing to drop TIM/Cerberus like a bad habit. The change seemed superficial to me, there was no in-between. That, and I don't like her choice of attire (at least for combat situations).

Yes, abide by my reductive standards and preconceptions, woman! Otherwise you are nothing!

Anyway, personally?

Kaidan. He is simply so very, very dull.

Those that I don't want to see return:

1. Zaeed. If I ever, ever see that Merc again, I will shoot him myself and make sure his body is so far gone not even another Lazarus project will bring him back.

2. Thane. He is already dying and depending on when the game starts it would be strange to see him still alive. Also, his 'flashbacks' gave me headaches.

3. Kasumi. She's too 'sweet.'
