Which one would you say is better for the sentinel and why?

I would recommend the GPS of those two. When I play shotgun Sentinel, though, I usually use the Scimitar. The GPS is fine, but I'm not fond of the delay. In my opinion, it works better for Adepts and Infiltrators than Sentinels.

GPS, or any shotgun for that matter goes well with Assault Armor. When you're in good range, the Assault Armor can finish the enemies off or knock them on their asses.

And the Locust is pretty much a compact assault rifle so adding another one is a little redundant.

GPS. You don't have a slow time (charge/adrenaline rush) nor do you have evolved squad cryo/inferno ammo to take full advantage of the Mattock. While the GPS functions great without ammo powers(add warp or tungsten if you really want extra boom). Although if you use Jacob's incendiary ammo a lot the Scimitar might be a bit better.

GPS is good in that it lets you strip defenses while closing range to do your real damage. Being a shotgun, it's good up close as well. As good as it is, the Locust doesn't really do that, although it'll pick up the slack as your main gun at medium long range or so.

I've been toying around with the idea of using the Mattock/Viper w. Power Armor for a long-ranged Sentinel build. Not sure how good it'll be, but it will be at least a bit weaker than the typical Assault Sentinel build with the GPS.

I just picked up the assault rifle training for my Sentinel and I'm actually thinking of replaying the game from an earlier save to get the shotgun training. Assault rifle just doesn't seem right for this character. I played through as Sentinel months ago with shotgun and it was way more fun than the assault rifle. I wanted to try something different and now I regret it.

Shotguns if you're going for CQC. You need stopping power.

from my experience the mattock can be pretty deadly at close range, but the GPS is a total BA weapon. tough choice but I think ill try the GPS as the mattock, pistol and locust are redundent

My sentinel took shotgun training last night. No regrets so far (except that I don't really find sentinel all that fun).

The GPS isn't the best against armor, but it's insane against everything else. I think I prefer the Eviscerator overall.

Why should you take shotgun training? Because shotguns are more fun at close range, and sentinels are able to get there. Sure they work at long range too, but that's playing it too safe when you have Tech Armor.

GPS. Its just more to play with and it takes complete advantage of the exploding assault armor. I only play CQC with most classes and shotgun and Sentinel are the perfect combination.

I am against the grain.

I like the Mattock. At heart I will always be a rifleman, and it's a rifleman's rifle.

Well, the GPS is practically 3 battle rifles strapped together, so you can argue that way for it as well, lol.

Do you mind if I derail the thread for a sec?

Geth rifle or Mattock for companions? I know the tempest is better than the locust for companions on account of the increased fire rate and zero recoil, but does the same apply to rifles?

And as much as I love the Mattock, nothing beats the GPS for me.

GPS is only accesible to SG users, Mattock to AR users, so what exactly are you asking?

GPS on an SG'er makes them basically a rifleman, insomuchas an ME2 AI is capable of being a rifleman.

Mattock on an AR guy/gal will make them a Mattock guy/gal.

I was talking about the Geth rifle not the shotgun.

Oops, reading fail! My bad.

Mattock all the way. The GPR's base damage is too low for its modifier to really come into play. The Mattock will outdamage it all the time.

I REEAAALLY wanna know.... why the hell does everyone take this stance with the sentinel? WHY is it boring? It is by FAR my favorite class, and yet 3/4 of the community seems to just shrug at it...

Sounds like Tech Armor makes everything too easy. I'm not complaining, though. I'm having way more fun with the Sentinel than Soldier. Have never seen what's so fun about that class.

When I take Shotgun training with the Sentinel I use the Katana/Eviscerator. I don't like GPS with the Sentinel even though it benefits not having an ammo power. Assault Armor is meant to be used up close. And the Sentinel already has a large "bag of tricks", I'm going with the Mattock for it's stopping power on this one.

If you are good at clicking really really fast while still aiming well, the Mattock is the superior weapon. But I think shotguns are more fun.

I enjoy Soldier and Sentinel the least. That's just the way I feel about it, and it doesn't mean anything other than that.

i'd be ALL OVER sentinals if they had an offensive class unique skill instead of the SUPER DUMB looking hologram armor. seriously, i HATE the look of tech armor, but i'd love to be a tech/biotic character. though i was toying with the idea of being one and only investing enough points in tech armor to unlock everything then just never using it lol
