First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone,

By now I read about dozens of forum pages for hours regarding toolset errors/crashes and how to fix them. I Tried everything else but to post my problem and ask for assistance, cause I ran out of options. Hoping you might help me.

I installed NVN 2 on PC (System summary: Win7 Pro 64-bit, QuadCore 2.50Ghz, Nvidia GTS250 1GB GPU, 4GB RAM) game runs perfectly on max config I have no issues playing it. However, I'm a big fan toolsets, I enjoy using them if I like a game, in fact one of the reasons why I started playing NVN2 was my friend told me that it has a great toolset that I might enjoy. BUT I can't run toolset. I couldn't even get to launch it. Whenever I click it gives an error.

Here's what I did to fix it so far:

First time when I clicked toolset exe it immediately crushed. No loading window or anything just a regular windows encountered an error message.  I tried setting compability to XP SP 2, Disable Visiual Themes, Run as Admin etc. didn't work.

I did some forum digging and I learned it required directx 9c (even though I have the latest installed) so installed it (from windows official page cause I read that the one in CD was incompitable with 64bit win7). So loading screen appeared I was happy BUT now there came another error.

System .Null Reference Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
at OEIShared. IO. GFF. GFFFile. Open (Stream cStream)
at OEIShared. IO. GFF. GFFFile..ctor (Stream cStream)
at NWN2Toolset. NWN2. Data. Blueprints. NWN2BlueprintSet. (ResourceEntry, Type)
at NWN2Toolset .NWN2 .Data .Blueprints .NWN2BlueprintSet . LoadBlueprints(Resource Repository Collection cRepositories)

It shows up when loading "Global Blueprints" if it rings any bell, I have no idea what it is.This error window does not disappear unless I end the process manually. And I tried to update my system, drivers, installed latest .Net framework 4, even tried a fix (related to dxdign.dll in system folder) that helped people with issues running NVN2 on Win7 but no luck.

Any idea what it might be related ?

try downloading directx 9.0c - having the win7 dx10 or 11 do not compensate because they run separately. that should make a difference. dont worry about dx 10/11 because dx9.0c runs separately. try that and come back if you still are having problems. you should be able to just google 9.0c download and install it.

Do you ahve4 any custom content in your override? if so empty the override completely.

Thanks for the reply. I already installed directx 9c I installed the one inside the CD but didn't work, I thought that version may not be compatible with 64-bit OS so then downloaded another directly from microsoft website but it didn't help either. I read threads already started on this forum and people had problems similar to mine but they claim to have fixed it after installing directx 9c, unfortunately I keep getting the same error just when toolset loading (it doesn't even open) and just when loading "global blueprints" part, whatever that means.

I know you mentioned updating to the latest .NET framework (version 4). However, I vaguely recall that some people found that (just like with Direct X) having the latest version didn't help so much as having the specific version needed. I'm pretty sure you can have more than version of the .NET framework installed (I know I've seen multiple in my installed programs and not had a problem), so you might want to make sure that you have the specific one required. I think that's 2.0.

This is probably not .NET related.

Do you have any zero-length templates/blueprints in override?  For example, *.utc, *.uti, *.utp, *.ut? files.

Actually
I also read something about that so I downloaded NET framework 2.0 but
my PC refused to install it saying it's already up to date. But I didn't try 3.5 I guess. I'll try installing that as well.

Yes I had some files in override folder, a mod. But emptied the folder and tried lsunching toolset again, it showed the same error.

Windows says .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.5 are already a part of the OS. Is there any workaround for this ? I read people with Win7 64bit could manage to run toolset and I'm just running out of ideas here.

I'm still trying to find a solution for this but fail at every turn. I don't understand why I can't run the toolset while I can run the game perfectly on my system. There has to be a way to fix this.

If it really is a problem with the absence or malformation of certain blueprints (and the error and when it occurs seems to suggest that) then maybe there's a problem with your installation. I don't really know how this would happen, but it seems possible.

You should probably step into the NW IRC channel for some brainstorming. There are some really tech-savvy folks there (Skywing especially).

A quick link to the irc channel is here: http://pastebin.myrror.net/ the link is on the lower left of the page. This link will not require any downloads it might require certain plugins but I used it without any fuss.

If it's installation related a reinstall can fix it maybe ? To be honest the reason why I didn't try it before because of my slow internet connection and it took some time to download all the patches. I like playing old games as much new ones and I'm quite familiar with compability issues, I have never encountered another as problematic as this one. I'm used to spending hours dig forums and outdated websites to find solutions for playing old games on new systems, but it's been days and I don't know.. It's kinda depressing.

Thanks I'll go check chat channel as well and see if I can find any solutions.

btw - the irc may seem empty for the most part in terms of chatting - but type your question and keep the window open eventually someone will check back and you could get your answer - but remember to keep the window open so the others can see you are still logged in. good luck. (a lot of people stay signed in all day)

This error clearly show that your toolset can't open a ressource it need, there is something that failed during installation, or the program doesn't have the right to do it.

Did you try to run/install it as an administrator ? Your problem seems no longuer related to your computer or version of Windows.

yes -what shallina said - you should reinstall - but before getting all the patches - which you said would take a long time - try the toolset with the barebones install first and see what it does.

Hmm.
Yes I am running the toolset as admin and in compability mod for xp sp2 (I tried running it in every possible compability mods). My Windows is currently up to date, along with other system tools, my drivers, NET, Directx etc.

People at chat channel you directed me also suggested a reinstall. So I guess I'll do that and post my results here.

It's not possible to run install toolset seperately in any way right? Or can I uninstall original game without expansions ? (Cause Toolset wasn't working before I install expansions, so they can't be a factor). I'd try anything to save myself from patching all over again but if that's the only way then I'll do it.

Unfortunately - you will have to re-patch as well - but dont bother until you are sure you have a sound barebones install and the toolset works

Hi there! I know a solution to fix your problem. If you want to use the toolset , you are surely an advanced windows user so it wouldnt be a big problem for you. Just change the regional and language settings to US and US English. Change everything to US English except the unicode option thing while you 're using the toolset. After you 've done with the toolset , you can revert back to your original settings. It's easy.

I know this because i am using a Turkish version of Windows 7 x64 and i've read this on a forum couple years ago. Personally i 'm using the toolset to change the party limit to 6 on SoZ campaign.

I hope you can solve your problem too. Good Luck

p.s. you dont need to use any compatibility mode or net framework versions
