Until the Dragon Age Rules Fixpack complies with not only 1.04 (I can confirm that at least his Tainted Blade fix does not work, and the core files themselves interfere with the proper functioning of the game, mainly, Tainted Blade deals 10 damage instead of 5 in Awakening, and who knows what else it breaks), but also other mods (breaks AT LEAST the Silverite Mines bug fix, as well as the core files interfering with other bug fixes, mainly other Tainted Blade fixes), I would recommend the "Just Another Fixpack" instead of that. It addresses most of the same bugs, and unlike the Rules Fixpack, it may still be supported by the modder.

Here are the bugs that this fixpack does not address that the rules fixpack does, and I will let the modder know about them:

* Fix - Ability Weapon Requirements
Fixes the bug where some abilities that require melee weapons remain active when ranged weapons are swapped in.

* Fix - No Crushing Prison Friendly Target
Fixes Crushing Prison so you can no longer target friendlies with it.

* Fix - Dual Wield Expert with Other Dots
Fixes the bug where Dual Wield Expert would not apply its effect is another DoT was present on the target. (Is this really a bug? I was under the impression that a character could only ever generate one DoT on a target, ever.)

* Fix - Find Vitals
Fixes Find Vitals to properly apply its passive bonus (fix here: http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1060)

* Fix - Force Field Blocks Drain
Fixes the bug where you can drain
health from targets with force field via Drain Life or Blood Sacrifice,
even though you cause no damage. Now there is no draining of health to
accompany the lack of damage.

* Fix - Gear Minimum Stat Check
Fixes the bug where you can continue
to wear gear even if you no longer meet the minimum stat requirements.
Unequippable items will be removed after you close the inventory screen.

* Fix - Increases Monetary Gain
Fixes monetary gain items to properly
give additional 5% gold from killing monsters. This fix has a peculiar
behavior as described below.

* Fix - Legion of the Dead Heraldry
Fixes Legion of the Dead Heraldry to give +3 stats like all other heraldries.

* Fix - No Stealth Drop on Friendly Spells
Fiexes the bug where stealth would drop on entering friendly spells. (His mod fixes Rally.. others break stealth too?)

* Fix - Repeater Gloves Proper Rapid Aim
Fixes Repeater Gloves (from Return to Ostagar DLC) to properly gives -0.3s to your aim time, instead of -3.0s.

* Fix - Shale Rock Barrage
Shale's Rock Barrage now functions
properly again. She will throw rocks up into the air, then slam her
fists together causing them to start falling down.

* Fix - Weaken Nearby Darkspawn
Fixes the bug where the Weaken Nearby
Darkspawn property was not functioning. Now causes darkspawn within
2.5m to be penalized -5 attack and -5 defense.

This mod also fixes quite a few things that the rules fixpack doesn't accomplish. For some of them, the modder took a certain level of discretion, but obviously you don't have to use them all.

The author of that mod has posted in this thread already but as I said, he has many tweaks and fixes in his pack and most of which you are unable to separate. The goal of this thread is all about fixes, if we had someway to remove the tweaks I would approve if all but I don't feel core game mechanics should be modified because someone disagrees with them.

The following is listed under "fixes" in his pack:

(passive_abilities)
- Champion spec gets 1 to defence instead of uselessly to cunning.
- Templar spec gets 2 to willpower instead of magic.

That's an opinion not a fix. Therefore a tweak. I enjoy many of his changes but if we had the ability to remove "fixes" we don't like I would like to be able to do so more freely. The dragon age rules pack has the ability to remove fixes not desired (except the core which apparently has issues) so that kind of hierachy would be welcome.

I do agree with you, and I think the majority of these fixes unfortunately will either have to be done by someone here, or by Bioware themselves.

EDIT: Did you try deleting the files you don't like and see if it still works?

I have not personally tested the package as I use other ones that contain similar fixes. I also believe if I add anymore fixes I will start overriding fixes with other fixes since I don't think you can stack a fix that modifies the same file; if fix 1 and fix 2 modify file A only fix 1 should work fix 2 should be ignored. That's how I view it at least.

Given the files in his package you might be able to single some out by the section its under and finding the file that matches that section. He also leaves some nss files so we can dig around those.

I've used the rules fix pack (fixes only, no tweaks) with 1.04 with no issues. I haven't tested the tainted blood fix much as I never use it, but it can be removed and a new fix for that could be added. I haven't tried it with the Silverite Mine fix, but Terra_Ex could likely make them compatible if the original Modder is no longer available.

No.. you cannot remove the Tainted Blood fix from the Rules Fixpack and use another mod. I tried this. For some reason, the core files from the Rules Fixpack modify Tainted Blood entirely. For example, it starts doing 10 damage in Awakening instead of 5. No other mod is able to correct it. I've tried many different solutions..

Tainted blood was suppose to be fixed with the 1.04 patch. I'm guessing the fix didn't work? As I said, I don't use the ability and so haven't tested it at all. How much damage does it do with no mods at all? My guess is that other fixes are trying to alter the same files as the fixpack and therefore aren't being recognized. A simple scan through the files would confirm it (or have a modmanager do it for you). As I believe Elegant noted, the mod author included the .nss files, so it could probably be fixed. It is the only fixpack that allows the tweaks to be separated out. The author of the fixpack you mentioned posted here early on and knows about the tweaks issue but has not replied back or altered his/her mod.

He may also be no longer interested in the project, wouldn't blame him, must really need motivation considering DA2 is out and what not.

The problem with Tainted Blade is that if you also have Dual Wield Expert, the DOT from Dual Wield Expert will apply itself to your character with Tainted Blade active.

Ah, in that case, what needs to be fixed is different from what was wrong pre-1.04.  That explains the issue.  It should still be relatively easy to fix.

It likely is, but the Rules Fixpack doesn't fix it. :P

Ok, I just got the ultimate edition of DA:O for PC. In order for me to experience the game with as little bugs and things like that as possible, what are the essential downloads I need?

Honestly, I would suggest playing the game without any mods at least one time; after that, add mods that you think would fit how you play. Of course, if  you're the sort of person that only plays a game one time through, feel free to ignore my advice.

If these were anything but bug fixes, I would agree. As frustrating as a few of the bugs can be...I would use the fixes only.

I agree with daywalker03 and sami jo.  First time through I'd recommend using only bug fixes.  It's a great game right out of the box, and after playing through once that way, you'll have a much better idea of what mods you might like.  Plus, you can appreciate how they're changing your game (for the better, we hope) if you know what it used to be like.

Best "one-stop" source I know about is Qwinn's Unoffical DA:O Fixpack (social.bioware.com/project/2563/.)  Even though he didn't update it for the 1.04 patch, it doesn't conflict with anything in the vanilla game.

Another good "all-in-one" is the DA Rules Fixpack (www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php.)  That also includes a number of game-play tweaks, but you are able to mix-n-match which elements you'd like to use.
Happy Gaming! Image IPB

Personally, I would forgoe Qwinn's fixpack in favor of ZDF and one of the other rules fixpacks. Twin did a good job with technical bugs but incorrectly fixed a number of dialogue bugs and misses completely some large end-game bugs that are fixed in ZDF. ZDF is not compatible with Qwinn's fix. Qwinn also employed some questionable ethics in identifying dialogue bugs, which definitely colors my opinion of the mod.

Chiming in to say do run, at bare minimum, ZDF Dialog Fix and the Morrigan restoration pack before starting a game since they both fix well known problems and will make the game a more enjoyable experience. If you're planning on playing female non-human characters you might also want to look into TMP7704's proportions fixes before starting, but it's not essential.

On Qwinn's fixpack, I used it myself for a while but it's been confirmed that it does break things in game once the 1.04 patch is applied (and does something bizarre to Shale's model in the final scenes) so is better avoided.

Marvin_Arnold wrote...

FWIW, two serious bugs created by Qwinn's fixpack in 1.04:

*editing out spoilers but both problems are gamebreaking*

Both were fixed by disabling QFP.

Dragon Age Rules Fixpack, as mentioned by StoneTheCrow is quite comprehensive, is a good replacement for QFP, and has the advantage that you can disable every single fix and tweak you don't want.

Enjoy the game!

Hmmm...

I run 1.04 with Qwinn's Unoffcial Fixpack v2.0, the GT Core Rules Fixpack Beta (aka "DA Rules Fixpack"), Morrigan Resoration Patch, ZDF (for MRP), MRP Epilogue Slide Fix , Dialogue Tweaks, and many, many more.

FInished another full playthrough (DA:O, DA:A, WH) yesterday. Not happy with one of my decisions for that Warden in DA:O, so re-played the post-Landsmeet stretch again, and am starting on DA:A now. Haven't had any "game breaking bugs", and haven't noticed anything strange about Shale in any scenes, (but maybe I'm just lucky?)

Anyway, have fun!

Greetings,

While the developers are working on fixing DLC authorization and performance issues with the next patch (1.05), there's been some talk of coordinating all those community-generated bug fixes in one place so people can access them more easily.  This topic will attempt to do that.  We need your help!

Here's what we're looking for-- some information and a link to an unofficial mod which *fixes* a bug in the game.  Specifically, what we're looking for is:

*Mods that ONLY fix KNOW BUGS.
*Testimony from someone who can confirm it works, and it doesn't break anything else in the game
*EDIT:  Adding... Confirmation that it works with patch 1.04
*A link to the mod and instructions to install... preferably a link from the Bioware Social Network's "Projects", but we'll also accept links to other sites, like DragonAgeNexus.com.

What we're NOT looking for:
*Mods that allow cheats to the game
*Mods that modify spell effects, textures, or character models.

So, for example, we're interested in something like the "Ancient Elven Boots" fix.  We're not interested in something like the "Trailer Edition" model pack.

Eventually, your contributions will be put into one, permanent post that will be pinned to the top of the forum.  It's also possible that these fixes will be collected into one file so they can be installed all at once.

You don't need to be the author of a mod to nominate it for this list.  Also, we ask that you keep replies to this topic limited to adding mods to the list.  Discussion about the future plans for DAO can be posted here.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Any word on a release date for this v1.05 patch??? Any changes or updates regarding the patch? I'm having some major issues with the DLC authorization as well. Can't play "The Stone Prisoner" & "Wardens Keep" DLC's - was able to DL them, but not play cause it says their Unauthorized. Tried relogging, reformatting my hard drive, making sure I had none of my mods installed, etc. Current version is 1.04

@Thandall: Since ZDF and the rules fixpack both conflict with Qwinn's fixpack, the game may not be calling Qwinn's fix for the that are currently broken in it; which would be pure luck in the order of which mod the game sees first. If that is the case, you probably aren't seeing many of his fixes at all.

Edited to add: FYI the Epilogue fixes are now integrated into the newest version of MRP and ZDF.  If you haven't downloaded the newest versions of either in a while, there are several new fixes, especially in ZDF.

Do this Fixes install kind of like I would install an Addon when I played WoW?

And is there a Rule Fix out there that does not have the tweaks I see the one suggested here has? I am curious as some of the rules which seems to be broken that I have read about seem kind of like they are rules that you really want to work, like the healing effect Rules. But I rather not tweak the game any outside of fixing those things which should work any how. (Although a Combat Log be nice but that tweak as much an addin)

There should be install instructions either on the main page for each mod, or in the download itself. Some of the files are dazip, some are overrides that go into your override file. One of the two rules fixpacks allows you to select only the fixes you wish to install (instructions on the mod page)
