Hello !

I have a question, that follows me for a very long time now, and I hope someone knows the answer or that is has been mentioned already.

I'm sure I don't have to tell everyone what great additions skilled modding teams can make to a game. On the same way, I'm deeply dissapointed that it didn't happened for ME sofar. Since the game has so many followers, and there are no mods that add more characters/location to the game, seems to be the proof that there is no real modding support.

As much as I adore both games, I was very dissapointed about the side stories in ME1. Three different building types, only difference is the boring stuff inside, where crates are placed differently. I always hoped for additions, after all, the galaxy map has enough room for that.

Same goes for ME2, though at least the side quests where unique enviroments. But still, no fan additions. Yes, the DLC's are awesome, I have them all, and I want more, more, more :)

While I'm modding games myself for more than 10 years now, I never really started modding 3d Levels, not to mention characters. I'm more the 3D/2D object modeller type.

A short idea was, that EA/Bioware don't want it being moddable (understandable to a certain marketing point, because of the DLC's).  But since those are done now, will it change ? Of course, it will not be easy possible to make the outcomes of mods influence the new game at all, which is based on results from the old game, but I don't think that this is an unsolvable issue and not really that important. And since there is modding support for DA, I doubt that EA/Bioware is to blaim for not offering modding support.

The question that stays is : Why are there no mods ? Why no modding support for more planet levels ?

Are there any news/infos, how this will be in ME 3 ?  Or maybe will there be enhancements or later modding support for ME1 and 2 ?

I think that the restrictions mostly come due to the Unreal Tournament engine, not Bioware directly.

Hm, but haven't there been mods to the UE3 engine also ? I'm not really a FPS shooter guy, but I cannot imagine that it's not working. It can't be harder than to mod HL2 or Crysis.

We have been over this topic over and over.

If they give you mod tools they cant sell you DLC aka you're not getting the mod tools

I already pointed that out. Are there any DLC's coming soon for ME1 or 2 ? I don't think so. I'm not dumb, I know how business works.

There is no great mystery for this. Lot's of games don't have mod support, deal with it. BW simply does not consider it a priority, which is understandable given the mammoth undertaking of all the ME games, both game and tech-wise.

Also the engines that the Mass Effect games run on, while based on UE3, are radically different and "upgraded" for the purpose of presenting the ME world. BioWare would probably need to create their own mod kit, as the changes to the engine would mean that UDK just won't cut it.

You should also know that since there's no profit in releasing mod support for the previous games, both of which are on widely different version of their current working engine and would therefore require separate, tedious work to create, they won't do it.

Yeah, I also fear the same. That's really a shame though, it would enhance these great games even further :(

While you could theoretically figure out how to create a new map/mission for the game, I'm not sure how the "save game" feature would be able to support it. So many RPG-features were tacked onto the base image, it could be a bit of a problem. Perhaps, for ME1, you could use a console command to load your map, but at best you would be very limited without BioWare's toolset. Even with the fully-featured DA:O toolset, it's not trivial.

I want a mod that separates the key bind of cover from sprint. Like well.. a keyboard has plenty of keys. Its just idiotic to combine sprint with cover. How many times it happens that I wanted to sprint, only for the character to cover instead -_-.

Is there one that doesn't require Framework 4.0? Because whenever I try to run the .bin editor or the Gibbed editor, it doesn't work and posts that error message. I have 3.5, and when I try to use the link to download 4.0 that they both provide, it says it needs a disc to run.

Bioware stated when ME was released on the PC that at the end of the series they would be release a development kit type thing like what was released for NWN 1 and 2 to allow people to make there own missions and stories.
