Gore

Personally, I wouldn't mind. It doesn't have to be over-the-top, but at least some noticeable damage to the bodies, like a gaping hole in the chest from a shotgun blast, L4D2-style, would be nice.
Exploding heads from sniper shots is kinda trite, but I think it could be a little more dramatic that what we have now.
What do you think?

It's cool the first few times, but after that you stop really noticing it. Like with the first Soldier of Fortune game, blowing someone's leg off or shooting them in the nuts lost their nuance after the twelfth time or so, and that was only by the second level.
It's expected for horror themed games, and it shocks some people for a while. It just doesn't keep up the effect for the whole game.

Gore gets repetitive to look at, very fast.

To you, maybe.
I think it's even more tiring to shoot a merc in the head with the Widow and then find out it didn't even leave a dent in his helmet.

Well, you can blow off body parts in ME3, apparently. Don't want the game to be too gory, though.
You can do that to a severely limited degree in 2. The Loki Mechs. Even then, it's pointless. Shooting them in the head deals with them faster. Works on 90 percent of enemies in the game.
I imagine with ME3, head shooting will still be the most efficient way of dealing with most enemies.

besides, the odds of a mass effect bullet making a head explode are fairly small, they'd create a small entry wound and probably a large exit wound, you could probably say the back of their head would explode out but the whole head wouldnt go pop.
but yeah, mass effects weapons would create lots of small entry wounds due to the small size of the metal shards it shoots and the velocity its traveling. even with artificially increased mass it wouldnt increase the size of the wound, with increase mass it'd probably just fly through you as a small hole.
really needs that slowing down and having the bullet flatten out inside the body as its traveling to cause lots of gorey effects so yeah, it actually makes sense there isnt a ton of gorey deaths with guns in mass effect.

Completely agree, and after awhile it always becomes painfully clear how fake it is (arms always getting ripped off the exact same way etcetera). That said, a little more blood wouldn't hurt anyone (wait... what?Psearo wrote...

People would end up buying the game for the wrong reasons, and some might not even buy it if it was that bad.

Being perfectly honest, if there's gore then I want full nudity (no gore w/ my nudity please) in the game. Why violence is so much more palatable than nudity I'll never know or would care to understand.
Technically gore and nudity should be treated exactly the same. If there's a call for some blood (i.e. someone gets shot), then show the blood. If there's a call for some nudity (i.e. your character has sex with someone), then show the nudity. You shouldn't overdo it for shocking purposes, but neither should you conceal it for censorship purposes.
