I want to know how many of you would like to see more gore in Mass Effect.

Personally, I wouldn't mind. It doesn't have to be over-the-top, but at least some noticeable damage to the bodies, like a gaping hole in the chest from a shotgun blast, L4D2-style, would be nice.

Exploding heads from sniper shots is kinda trite, but I think it could be a little more dramatic that what we have now.

What do you think?

I wouldn't mind seeing my Vanguard exploding a Bartarian's face with her shotgun up-close.....
Yeah I'm a bit sick in the head...

Gore gets repetitive to look at, very fast.
It's cool the first few times, but after that you stop really noticing it. Like with the first Soldier of Fortune game, blowing someone's leg off or shooting them in the nuts lost their nuance after the twelfth time or so, and that was only by the second level.

It's expected for horror themed games, and it shocks some people for a while. It just doesn't keep up the effect for the whole game.

To you, maybe.

I think it's even more tiring to shoot a merc in the head with the Widow and then find out it didn't even leave a dent in his helmet.

Well, you can blow off body parts in ME3, apparently. Don't want the game to be too gory, though.

If it's an option I can turn off, I wouldn't care. I don't mind some, but I'm not into the more gore the better group.

Bring on the gore.....but stop making bodies disappear! That seriously take me out of the game.

You can do that to a severely limited degree in 2. The Loki Mechs. Even then, it's pointless. Shooting them in the head deals with them faster. Works on 90 percent of enemies in the game.

I imagine with ME3, head shooting will still be the most efficient way of dealing with most enemies.

There's a middle ground really. If there's too much gore and body parts flying it just looks silly, but having no blood or wound-effects at all makes it look too PC and child-friendly.

maybe its because im super desensitized but lots of gore in video games does absolutely nothing for me. not that im against it or anything i just dont think its a priority.

besides, the odds of a mass effect bullet making a head explode are fairly small, they'd create a small entry wound and probably a large exit wound, you could probably say the back of their head would explode out but the whole head wouldnt go pop.

but yeah, mass effects weapons would create lots of small entry wounds due to the small size of the metal shards it shoots and the velocity its traveling. even with artificially increased mass it wouldnt increase the size of the wound, with increase mass it'd probably just fly through you as a small hole.

really needs that slowing down and having the bullet flatten out inside the body as its traveling to cause lots of gorey effects so yeah, it actually makes sense there isnt a ton of gorey deaths with guns in mass effect.

I am against gore for the sake of gore ie DA, it seems these days Devs. seem to have the misguided sence that it will make their game seem more mature which is not the case, however i would rather see subects like death, love, and war handled in a fashion that is impactfull to the player, maybe a child sitting in a burned down ruin crying over a lost parent.

Not fussed about blood and stuff, but it would be pretty neat if you could cripple limbs like in Fallout 3. Could come in handy for slowing down those big-ass husks.

LotSB did a good job with it. shot a merc while it is standing close to a wall and there is splatter on the wall...it will stay there so long as the merc's body is still hanging around. once it disappears so does the blood.

human red
asari purple
turian blue
salarian green
dont recall batarian blood color.

Gore is just like the Ultimate Warrior's tassels, it looks interesting at first but after a while he looks like a nutjob. Sure games like Mortal Komat and Gears of War have somehow found a way to make gore much more fun, but that's because the game and it's style is built around it. Mass Effect can have blood and splatter, but everything else stands out as weird because it goes against the style.

Completely agree, and after awhile it always becomes painfully clear how fake it is (arms always getting ripped off the exact same way etcetera). That said, a little more blood wouldn't hurt anyone (wait... what? :?), and I still don't understaind why the series gets an 18+ rating.

As long as it doesn't become like Dead Space 2 which is best known for its gore, I'm fine with it.

People would end up buying the game for the wrong reasons, and some might not even buy it if it was that bad.

I don't care either way but if hey do it don't go all fallout over the top bodies just don't explode like that because you shot them with a pistol or hit them with a blunt object.

Being perfectly honest, if there's gore then I want full nudity (no gore w/ my nudity please) in the game. Why violence is so much more palatable than nudity I'll never know or would care to understand.

Technically gore and nudity should be treated exactly the same. If there's a call for some blood (i.e. someone gets shot), then show the blood. If there's a call for some nudity (i.e. your character has sex with someone), then show the nudity. You shouldn't overdo it for shocking purposes, but neither should you conceal it for censorship purposes.

No thanks. Maybe a bit of dented armour and some blood stains, but blowing people's heads up doesn't seem to fit in with mass effect's sleek, shiny sci-fi style. The dead space-esque husks are enough gore for me.

I'm fine either way, so long as we don't get into Deadspace 2 territory and things don't start to feel like a zombie shooter. I was fine with the amount that was shown in LotSB when Vasir was injured.
