Hmm, this sounds enticing, but one thing to consider is if it would make sense lore-wise. I can understand something like a round from a Desert Eagle making a mess, but keep in mind that the guns in the MEverse fire much smaller rounds (think the size of a grain of sand). Would that be enough to produce enough gore comparable to what you see in Left4Dead? Then again, they are designed to squash or break apart upon impact, rather than just ripping straight through, so I really don't know.

Red Dead Redemption level of gore.

Nothing exploding in chunks, but when you shoot someone in the head there should be a hole there.

Well it seems like they put more gore in ME2 than was in 1, but it still isn't very heavy by industry standards.  The fact that you can blow off limbs and heads from mechs (and apparently everybody in ME3) is enough for me, along with the occasional spray of blood where appropriate.  Fallout 3 went overboard with the gore, I think, in that it was ridiculously easy to splatter someone with a small weapon (like a pistol) even without the Bloody Mess perk.  Maybe a little more gore would be okay, but not too much.  It would interfere with the style, since this is an epic, not a horror game.

I agree. Gore would be distracting and feel out of place.

make it realistic is all i want. i dont want blood splatter like DA, and i dont want something made for children. if realistic isnt as flashy, you can always add more.

There is something quite rewarding when blowing off an enemy's arm or leg and watching them thrash about while they bleed to death (it was awesome in Turok 2), but I don't think ME3 should go over the top like that.

The blood splatter was well done though.

I'd prefer more lingering effects of gunfights, like the mechs that crawl on the ground.

I'd rather the effort be placed elsewhere.

Sure. Doesn't need to be over the top but some red mist and such would be a nice touch.

Does gore add to the experience?

If you answered the question with yes, you'd probably want to play other games.
If you answered the question with no, then you'd probably want the ressources put to better use.

Thank you

Just gun shot wounds and a little bit of blood spatter. No exploding bodies like in DA2.

By mature do you mean breasts everywhere?  If so I'd have to pass and reconsider it's maturity.

I want to know how many of you would like to see more gore in Mass Effect.

Personally, I wouldn't mind. It doesn't have to be over-the-top, but at least some noticeable damage to the bodies, like a gaping hole in the chest from a shotgun blast, L4D2-style, would be nice.

Exploding heads from sniper shots is kinda trite, but I think it could be a little more dramatic that what we have now.

What do you think?

Why not? I've been wanting this for some time now. I don't want over the top Fallout 3 violence but exploding heads and exploding bodies (like the vorcha flamethrower guys) would be fine. Feels more gritty and more badass and if this is a gritty sequel then it should have it. I've seen T for teen games more gory than ME (Destroy all Humans). I've had this problem for both Halo and ME, they make the game more teen friendly by making it less gory and easier (mechanics wise).

Being perfectly honest, if there's gore then I want full nudity (no gore w/ my nudity please) in the game. Why violence is so much more palatable than nudity I'll never know or would care to understand.

Even though both are as old as life on this planet, in our glorious country with a high amount of Puritan influence, sex is taboo and not appropriate for children, even though it made them and is the driving purpose behind all life, while violence is entertainment (gladiators, wrestling, football, hockey to name a few). I do not understand it either, but that is the way US society percievs these two things.

Why would a Polish company care about fox news?  Also,  you have to aknowledge that Europeans are less likely to hide sexuality.   It is in fact a cultural thing.

So beating prositutes is the epitome of maturity?  I haven't played LA Noire yet,  so I can't really say anything.

I guess but I don’t particularly care about it. *shrug*
I don’t think it would add a heck of allot to mass effect and over top ridicules gore would detract from the game IMO. If it becomes like fallout 3 where you shoot a guy in the chest with a 10mm pistol and their limbs pop off it or enemies explod if you so much as brush past them (my experience with the DA2 demo) it would just look ridicules and the affect wears off pretty fast. Gore were appropriate in this sort of game could be good, gore thrown all around the place for shock value is not. Same with sex, nudity and swearing. Having these things in your face all the time does not make a game “mature”.

Gore gets repetitive to look at, very fast.
It's cool the first few times, but after that you stop really noticing it. Like with the first Soldier of Fortune game, blowing someone's leg off or shooting them in the nuts lost their nuance after the twelfth time or so, and that was only by the second level.

It's expected for horror themed games, and it shocks some people for a while. It just doesn't keep up the effect for the whole game.

To you, maybe.

I think it's even more tiring to shoot a merc in the head with the Widow and then find out it didn't even leave a dent in his helmet.

Speaking as a longtime horror movie fan, and one that's sat through a very wide range of films (including the August Underground stuff), yeah, after a certain point the gore just becomes 'meh' and anything for shock value ends up more as a *yawn*.

For me with DA and it set to maximum gore, it got silly with moments like killing rats or spiders and ending up looking like one ran crazy in an abbatoir.

ME's fine for what it shows currently.

I have to say, Fallout 3 somehow made it always entertaining to see body parts fly off. But is ME fit for that? No, I think we can agree thats not something it needs. But could be nice touch is allowing the bodies to stay, I hate when they disappear in my line of sight. Also for mechs, there should be mechanical parts lying around in the aftermath.
