I was a Soldier as well.
I always prefer the class that brings the most damage and has the highest health.
I'm more into gunplay then fancy tech or biotic tricks.
Give me weapons and a shielding power, that's all I need to not chew bubblegum......

Infiltrator.
Felt like a more grounded choice at the time; I couldn't stand casting powers using the powerwheel on the xbox, which ruled out all of adept/engineer/sentinel and to some extent vanguard.
That and electronics and decryption allowing me free choice of squad.
Still think I've got the saves kicking around on the 360.

I've always done it in - Vanguard, Sentinel, Adept, Engineer. I did a Infiltrator in ME1.. just haven't felt the desire too in ME2. And Soldier.. in ME? BOOORRRIIINGG.
If I want to play a Soldier, I'll play one of the other 127 military games that does it better.
Supplemental edit: Mass Effect combat strengths lies within the use and playing with the Tech and Biotic powers. If you don't use those, then of course you realize how simplistic ME of a shooter is. I positive that pure Solider HURTS ME gameplay, because as such, thats they only thing you can do is play it as a pure straight up shooter; which ME (and ME2 still in many cases) falls flat on its face. At least the Tech and Biotic uses cover that up.

Either a Vanguard or a Sentinel, I can't quite remember. Those are still my favorite classes, although after playing Adept, Sentinel is a tad less interesting. Never played a soldier, having only buffing abilities just doesn't give my gameplay enough oomph.

Adept, Vanguard, Sentinel, Infiltrator, Engineer and Soldier in that order. Agree with Murmilos - Soldier is my least favorite I found it boring. I do love the sniper rifle though. Once I had that I took it no matter what my class was.

Soldier
I do like biotics and tech powers, but I'm for some reason not really good at stopping the game and selecting the powers plus aiming the objective, nor I like to wait for them to recharge and stuff XD
BUT I do always have a biotic and tech fighter on my team, I may be the guns, but they are my powers :3

In order of completion:
Full playthroughs - Adept, Engineer, Vanguard
Half a playthrough - Infiltrator, Sentinel
I never found Soldiers to be interesting enough to continue with them past Eden Prime/the Lazarus Station.

Vanguard.
The main reason I avoided the ME series for so long was because I assumed they were shooters more than they were RPGs and I usually prefer games where I can play melee (or if I am ranged, magic or bows, not a big fan of guns). From the Vanguard's description in-game, it sounded like the closest thing to close-quarters combat and though it wasn't a melee class it seemed like the closest thing I was going to get.
I fell in love with the class and the games shortly after that choice and now even have an appreciation for guns and the style of combat that goes with them. I prefer the ME2 version of Vanguard since the charge ability and Claymore shotgun are my favourite ways to handle most situations.

First one? Infiltrator!
(But Vanguard became my favourite one, though I love them all almost equally.)

Soldier, but my true love is Engineer.
In ME2, in ME1 Engineer sucked.

The first one was soldier. Always pick on a warrior/barbarian for the first playthrough in RPGs. But my love is the vanguard.
Played all though.
