Infiltrator, because I imagined sniping was my thing. I ended up using pistols 99% of the time. :innocent: Luckily ME2 made sniping much more easy fun.

soldier, because I knew nothing about ME classes so I picked default (I also picked default origins - the only things I changed were the things I knew how to change safely - Shepard's sex, appearance and name
)
it is currently my least favorite class. it wasn't as bad in ME1 because you had unlimited ammo, but with ME2? I just gave up on it and gibbed my soldier into infiltrator.
favorite class? mattock vanguard. can't beat the charge

Infiltrator. I like sniper rifles and the tech grenades were fun for messing with enemy weapons and shields. I'd deal with far away enemies and get a couple of heavy hitting squaddies like boomstick-wielding Ashley and Wrex to deal with close-up ones.
ME2 has some fun abilities like Incinerate and AI Hacking. But I miss those ME1 tech powers.

Infiltrator. I was too impatient to read the differences, so I basically closed my eyes, scrolled down, and pressed A.
Vanguard ftw

Infiltrator, which was fun for a while, but by the end I only ever used my pistol, so I kinda lost track of the point.

adept
no subclass. wasnt aware of the importance of completing luna.
NO points in singularity(i remember thinking why would i want to create a spinning vortex, i was satisfied with basic throw)
12 points in shield boost
what a horrible build. ME1 was my first RPG so i had no idea what i was doing with leveling abilities. its basically the exact opposite of the current adept i roll in ME1.

Infiltrator. I got addicted to it and my playthroughs are about 70% infiltrator and 30% Soldier. I tried some of the other classes but none of them held my interest.

I played as a Sentinel because I liked balanced abilities. Then I found out Kaidan, who I wanted to romance and keep as my main party member was also a sentinel. So my main playthrough is now Soldier. I didn't find Adept too attractive until I tried it out in ME2.

Soldier.
But as soon as I saw the Biotic Charge ability in a trailer for ME2, I was sold on that class.

Soldier. Just went default, did not know anything about the game other than that it was supposed to be good and ME2 was about to hit the stores when I got it. Ended up sniping the socks off of everything in sight with ease (hurray for years of railgun training in Quake games
) and did the same for ME2.
Started different playthroughs after that, including an adept which I really liked, but after discovering the Vanguard it's been a one way track

Vanguard.
Quite interesting, generally the most popular first-time classes are soldier and vanguard. I think the soldier is explained by that it's the default class, and everyone who chose the default Sheploo played soldier.
Vanguard is more interesting. The reason I chose vanguard was because it seemed to be a nice mix between shooting and biotics.

Vanguard, colonist, war hero, paragon, nemesis specialisation.
i liked the idea of combat and space magics - possibly due to having recently finished replaying kotor.

Vanguard! I just loved the idea of having biotics and still being an awesome fighter!! In ME2 got even better, and I hope ME3 takes it to a new level
Then I played soldier and Infitrator. Will do an Adept playthrough as well. Dunno bout Engineer and Sentinel though...

oh lord, i feel bad for ME1 soldiers. i tried playing through as one, its SO boring.
Actually, the most fun I had in Mass Effect 1 was as a soldier.
I modded my guns right for neverending fire, used Immunity and Shield Boost, then took Ashley and Wrex along for backup and there wasn't an enemy we couldn't stomp into the dust!
Sadly, that level of fun tapered right off in ME2.
I lost both my signature powers and although Geth Shielding could replace one of them, it still wasn't the same.
And the ammo issue was disappointing to the nth degree.
I can guarantee during the length of one mission, even if I hit every target with a deadeye shot, at least one-two guns would be completely out of ammo (usually my Collector Assault Rifle and Geth Plasma Shotgun).
If it was a siege moment (like Object Rho in Arrival), they'd all run out pretty fast!
By the way, I never survived all 5 waves.......
I was out of ammo when the Ymir mech showed up and that was that!
I've always hated games that cater to the "power casting' type of character and don't consider what would happen if someone (like me) wants to play a character based purely on weapons and the skill of using them.
And, unfortunately, ME2 was one of those kind of games.
Still, I'm sticking with Soldier in ME3, even through all it's ups and downs, it's still my favorite.

Solider is my favorite class. I like being able to use all my guns, and equip heavy armor. The only other classes I tried were Vanguard and Infiltrator. Vanguard is definitely better, but that's not saying much.
Then, in ME2 I choose Reave as the bonus power for importing a saved game.
