The weekends mean fewer, or even, NO answers at all to questions

But there are other ways to learn

Readership in forums like this one is traditionally already low from late spring througth the fall, due to the instense competition from so very many outdoor and seasonal activities.  During the middle of the week, a question may go all day long before anyone who recognizes the problem may suggest anything in response.  Add in the weekend influence, and many questions get no answers at all (very particularly when they are unnecessary questions, already asked and answered many times).

Most of the Bioware Social forums took a major nosedive in reasdership over the past summer, and most still are very slow even now, as I edit this comment.  Experienced gamers are just not hanging around much, and a few of use who do still wander in from time to time are totally bored to tears at repeating the same answers to the same questions so often, so we may ignore people who don't appear to make a stab at finding anything on their own.

There are pinned threads on top of the forum with some answers already in them, and there is a forum Search function (although it is actually a terrible thing):

Because it is such a badly crippled thing, you almost certainly will be better off using Google or Yahoo with a "site:" redirector added to point back to here.  Thus, instead of no answer at all, you can find the already answered threads and get back to playing the game much sooner.

site:social.bioware.com

Should the search fail to include a usable answer, there is a fairly standard report form that PC game forums all suggest and is needed here as well:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/300/index/6423406

I'll add the equivalent of one "FAQ", for those who are always in a hurry, and ignored the system requirements label on the game:

Here are the minimum requirements for DA2, with my comment about the minimum Radeon

      Minimum:
OS: Windows XP 32-bit with SP3
OS: Windows Vista 32-bit with SP2
      OS: Windows 7
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (or equivalent) running at 1.8 GHz or greater
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 (or equivalent) running at 1.8 GHz or greater
RAM: 1 GB (1.5 GB Vista and Windows 7)
Video: Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB (should be 2600 XT or X1800 GTO)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS 256 MB cards (unless this really should
          have been the 7800 GS)
Disc Drive: DVD ROM drive required
      Hard Drive: 7 GB
Sound: Direct X 9.0c Compatible Sound Card Windows Experience
           Index: 4.5

Laptop or mobile versions of the above supported video cards
have not had extensive testing and may have driver or other
performance issues. As such, they are not officially
           supported in Dragon Age II.

The situation isn't going to improve (although Sundays aren't quite as slow as Saturdays). It will just get worse and then stay that way until next October, and then when other new games start coming out, all of the game forums will see a resurgence. Witcher Two is a very unusual case, with a late spring release.

There really is hardly enough "improvement" from yesterday to today to justify that choice of word.  This forum is very, VERY slow, so rely on the archives instead of the absent members.

Incidentally, I mentioned Witcher 2's release date here, but AFAIK, their own official forum remains offline still.

Not only is the DA2 PC Tech forum practically DEAD today and yesterday, I was correct about the official Witcher 2 Forum remaining totally offline.

Another weekend, and greatly slowed response rates due to low readership, so take advantage of the archives instead of waiting in futility!

The entire week was very slow, with only two days of slightly greater activity, and today seems more like a Saturday already than a Friday, so rely on the forums' archives for your answers.

Don't forget, the onboard excuse for a Find / Search here is really little better than plain garbage. Choose either Google or Yahoo, then add the redirector and you can actually do a good job of searching:

The month of June has been very slow in this forum, with the "weekend" and still further slowdown seeming to creep gradually on both ends. It doesn't seem over with before Tuesday, and is usually well begun on Friday, so be prepared for either a long wait, or to rely strictly on the archives.

Same thing, although it's July now.

Yesterday, in the DAO PC Tech forum, rather surprisingly, the new member arrivals with questions that there would have been almost no one to answer, just never showed up at all.  Today, although it's still early (Sunday morning, not yet 11:00 AM, CDT), that seems to be happening in this forum as well.

As far as I can discern, all issues that get brought up, both in DAO and DA2 tech support, are old issues that have answers readily available. You'll see a heavy increase in activity any time anything new comes out until it is decided that no new issues are occurring in which case our presence will be very limited. Obviously this is not the most ideal situation for new users with issues but it is a necessary use of resources.

That said, Legacy releases next tuesday so I'll be here all day tuesday (and probably the rest of the week) to answer any questions.

Gamers are using GoG's Witcher 2 forum in the interim - it's easily accessible if you purchased the game from GoG (owned by the developer CDPR).

I don't know why they left the normal forum offline so long, although during its very last incarnation, they changed it to a color scheme I couldn't read from with the CRT I was using then (changed to a flat panel to save the A/C unit from having to work so hard. As a result of the local drought, it gets hotter faster each day, and stays hot longer, and the room unit can't keep up.

(Really old house, has no "central" anything, but hey, it's all mine, no mortgage any more.)

I'm somewhat in the same boat - older home with mortgage paid off. I'm using two Vornado house fans to supplement PC cooling since the central A/C is on the fritz at the moment. I directed the fans to push air into the tower's vents.

I'm running a flat panel LCD as well, an Acer H243H 1920 x 1080.

I can't wait to purchase Legacy - from what I've seen so far, it looks awesome.

My neighborhood is getting the first significant rain we've had in the past three months, but it seems to already be abating after no more than a half hour or so.

Meanwhile, from past experience, we can anticipate another three weeks of the "Summer Doldrums" in the forums, so as always in these circumstances, rely on the Stickies and the Archives.

The DA2 tech forum never did recover from its summertime readership drop; maybe when some cold weather covers the country, we'll see a change. Meanwhile, don't waste space asking the same old questions again, please.

Around here, Fridays were always as slow as Saturdays were.  When you come in here, please take off the blindfolds and look around some, if you don't mind.

The forum season for this past winter is just about over. The chances of a revival next fall are doubtful. If you have arrived while a current hullabaloo about a SITE failure is in full cry, with multiple duplicates all about the same thing, attempt to overlook them. They expect 24/7 answers and repairs on a failed game from Bioware, on a weekend.

Only DA2 is involved, and Bioware works Mondays to Fridays only. They'll not get any kind of fix today.

ok, i get it now, you love the sound of your own voice, even if it's only in text, but, please, take your own advice and stop bringing old threads back to the top of the list.

As for your continued claim that it is a site failure, while it may be EA's validation servers that have failed, (and it is EA's, not Bioware's validation servers that have failed, as myself and many others have clearly stated that we have successfully validated our games on Bioware's system), an international game publishing company as large as EA should have a team that works throughout the week, including weekends.

server problems, such as this one can happen at any time, and since that is the case, there should be the staff on hand to remedy the situation at all times also.

as for why people should overlook valid problems, just because you don't personally agree with them, i'd like to hear your justification for that opinion. I have yet to see you apologise for treating people on this forum as badly as you do, just because you seem to feel superior to them.

GA isn't overlooking a valid problem, he's pointing out that a "player-to-player" forum isn't likely to be able to do anything about an "international game publishing company's" servers.

For that kind of problem, see the "Help" at the bottom of this (and every other) page, chose "BioWare (really EA's) Game Support", then select "Ask a Game Advisor" and look for the "Live Chat" option.

Thandal, please read GA's previous post in full. He clearly states that he suggests people overlook the treads concerning the error, which is the wrong thing to do, considering that many people are sufferring from the same fault, and this is the first place people are likely to reach concerning an error such as this.

as it stands i am still waiting for either his justification for his attitude, or, and i understand this is less likely, his apology to the community.

I'm with you on this one - I find GA's superior tone condescending and rude.   If we wish to discuss amongst ourselves the technical issues that we're having what skin is it off of his nose?  There is the option to just ignore us.
