I dont understand the purpose of Alistair coming to Kirkwall if he is made king? I mean all he really does is come and say "Dont let Kirkwall fall" or w/e.. Man lucky he traveled so far to let me know those four words. I mean did his visit have any effect or purpose whatsoever or couldn't a reason be found for Alistairs King cameo or something?

A cheap cameo with crappy writting. An attempt to retain bored player's attention in worst of acts.

FOR LORDAERON!!!!

I found it amusing you put the words Crappy writing and then made a warcraft reference in the same post =P Nah I jest, warcraft series is pretty cool.. Wish I could say the same for the MMO but im afraid that is crap incarnate =P

Yeah but with the Alistair cameo it certainly seems to be the way you described

''Yeah but what if the DA:O players don't sympathise with Hawke''?
-What if we picked the coolest character from DA:O, somehow made him cross to Kirkwall, meet Hawke and reassure the player on how awesomely epic the outcome is?''
''Dude that's really cheap, besides isn't Allistair a king in 90% of the saved games?''
''Qunaris with horns bro! HORNS''

I think there are pretty good reasons for him to be there but agreed, the whole thing could be better written and they could have taken some care over his appearance, lazy gits!

He wanted to stretch his legs out of the Fereldan Cold.

Seeking refugees comes to thought; perhaps what remains of his family?

You are actually in Denerim where he is responding to Meridith who has come before the King demanding the rogue mages. They just reused the Viscount's place due to lack of resources.

You're right, I don't think there was a legitimate reason for him to be there other than a quick cameo and to show off his mutilated face. For the message he wanted to convey in Kirkwall a delegate would have sufficed. Ferelden must not have ambassadors or something.

It's implied that he was saving mages from meredith or the kirkwall circle by fighting to keep them in Fereldan. I don't really think it makes sense for him to do it, unless like me, you had a mod that allowed him to marry your mage Amell. Then it makes perfect sense.

I assume he came to meet the acting viscount Meredith and talking to the Champion was just a side-note.

Hrm... I thought he may have been rallying allies, what with arising tension between Ferelden and Orlais?

I wasn't really paying attention to that tidbit so I can't vouch for the writing that had been implemented.

His mom is dead and his dad. He found Goldanna. What else is there?

Just cheap cameo's to appease the fans. Still better  him visiting Kirkwall then surviing a blow to the head and saying the maker saved you.

Denerim is nearly destroyed, which may force Goldanna and falily to flee for safety. In the alternate DLC, she may be slain, but I am uncertain as to her family's fate in the standard story.

But if not her, there are plenty friends from Denerim and Redcliffe that may be displaced too, or other subjects of his realm.

The funny thing is that bioware said that they were avoiding making too many cameos, for this same reason. Honestly i would have prefered to not see Alistair at all rather than the appearance that he had in DA2. If you bother to re-read the conversation with him you´ll realise that it doesn´t make any sense at all. He could have explained what was going on with the mages in Ferelden at the very least, but no, like the rest of the game, there is little answers and only more questions to any past story point.

Alistair's appearance as a Warden was the BEST of all cameos in my opinion.

I agree his cameo as king SUCKED & using the swooping line for the sake of it was absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah that line further proves that this cameo was simply for fan service. Still, its not as horrible as Leliana's ressurection if you had her put to a sword in DAO.

I honestly don't know what he was doing in Kirkwall.

There's got to be an easier way into Orlais than to go through Kirkwall.

Of course, Leliana's cameo during the Seb quest has the line that many eyes are on Kirkwall. I have no idea why, the game could have helped establish the importance of this backwater hell and why different countries would give a damn....so maybe Alistair was meeting nobles and important people in an effort to get a grasp of situation here.

Like the President goes to multiple countries every year.

...of course the President has an airplane. Which is much safer than traveling in the Middle Ages.

I was more confused by the way he looked than by the fact that he had a cameo.
Honesty, why did Alistair and Tegan look so old and haggard while Leliana look younger?

King Alistair's cameo/intricate quest turned into a royal vacation in Kirkwall due to budget cuts. :wizard:

(appreciate the effort, not the result =/ )

Must have been a side effect when the corrupted sacred ashes reattached her head in the temple.  Mabey Wynne is young an super hot now too.

I think that was done purposely for their fast to latch on to the new characters. <_<
