I have owned a disc copy of Dragon Age Origins for some time, however at the time I had it, my video card was pretty poor so the game went to the 'must play later' pile.  Later, I have upgraded my video card and enjoyed it immensely having put a fair amount of time into the game.

I did not own any of the DLC except for Stone Prisoner which came with Origins, nor did I own Awakenings.  I noticed an online store was selling the Ultimate Edition on Disc for a decent price and decided just to purchase it, especially since it also came with all the additional DLC.

It came through today, and I am wondering how I install it while retaining my old saves.  I don't want to wipe my previous Origins installation in case my save games go, but I do wish to install Awakenings and the Origins DLC.  Putting the disc in seems to default to just the splash screen with an option to play, though not to install Awakenings.  I tried this with Disc 2 which is labelled as Awakenings.

Any ideas on how to proceed.

First post here, and hope to keep posting, thanks in advance for any help I may receive.

Your saves are in My Docs > Bioware > Dragon Age > something.

If you delete, DAO to make this a clean install, it won't delete those saves unless you tell it to. Recently did this for a friend. Most games ask if you want to delete saves or not. Same for settings.

If you use the same account for UE that you used for the Collector's Edition, the Collectors bonus items will be available.  Make sure you have "Download previously purchased content" checked on the Options > Online menu in the game.

I have played through doa and doa awakening many times. after upgrading my hard drives i decided to purchase the doa ultimate and da II games, not installing the older versions, and play them though. both games downloaded and installed fine. the problem is all of the downloadable content 'wardens keep, witch hunt .....' that come with the ultimate package are marked "unathorized" and therefore unusable. i am the only user and log in with the same password. ???

Most likely it's one of two things... if you're using EADM, there's currently an issue with the CD Key being recorded in the wrong place with the registry... if this is a case, send me a personal message and I'll get you hooked up with the beta fix.

And/or the DAupdater service is not loading properly in the background.

First thing is to reboot your computer. When that's done, launch the game and sit on the lobby screen (the one with the sword in the ground).

1) Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL, launch the Task Manager, and go to the "Process" tab
2) Look for a process called DAupdatersvc.service.exe

If it is there, then there is something else wrong. Consult this link:
http://support.ea.co...s/showhome/true

If it is NOT there... and I am betting it is not... you can try this other beta fix:
http://supportfiles....nostic_beta.exe
