It has to be said, BW could take a lesson from CD Project Red about how to do love scenes in a game.  I don't mean the nudity and obvious intercourse scenes - though I have to say, this is the first time I've ever slept with a hooker in a game and fealt like I got some bang for my buck (no pun intended) - but the build up to that part.  The love scene with Triss (which you see part of it in the videos) was equal parts romantic, arousing and silly - the way a good love scene should be.

Mind you, I'm not saying the love scenes in DA2 were bad ... personally I think they were an improvement on the approach of the first game, and I'm hoping DA3 will do better still.  My main gripe is so far in the DA franchise those scenes don't feel as natural as they do in the Witcher 2 ... it still feels like I'm climbing a ladder of responses to get to a money scene in a lot of ways ... more scripted, I guess.  (though, the fact that you can romance someone whether they are high on the friend or rival slide was a nice addition that I really hope they keep ... the rivalry system in general was a great addition to the game)

For all that, the Witcher 2 does feel more like I'm playing through a movie than a character in an rpg.  You can really like Geralt, even really emapthize with him, but I don't think you ever get into his shoes the way you can with your own protagonist.  Because of that, I think the love scenes do lack the same emotional connection ... you don't feel giddy when you make love to Triss, because you always knew it would happen.  And there is no need to build a relationship with her ... it's already there.

So, I guess what I'd love to see is a wedding of the two styles - BW's "building a relationship" approach, with the more natural and realistic feeling love scenes of TW2.

After the scene with Triss in the pool, though, I can no longer count the style in ME1 as the best crpg love scene to date.

Already a topic here talking about the sex scenes.
Please keep the discussion to a single thread. Thanks!
Locking.

Not sex scenes, "love scenes", the distinction between which was part of my post.  You misprepresentin' me, John!

Edit: As to whether BW should stop trying them?  Heavens no!  BW is the only triple A game company doing credit to romance stories right now, (CDR isn't really a triple A company yet, with only two games under its belt) and have been in the forefront of bringing us new relationship dynamics in games for decades.

Rather than suggest they give up, I think they should push forward and keep trying new things ... I just wish they could be a little less gun shy about it. (as they seem to have become in recent years)

I debated whether to put sex scenes or love scenes, and chose the former.

Now, in the wee darkness of the early morning, I'll always ask myself 'what if?'
