I perfectly agree, always thought so. Nowadays enjoying both the Dragon Age AND the The Witcher series seems a heresy!Nimrodell wrote...

On the topic of love scenes though. While TW2 has pushed the boundries, I still believe ME1's love scene is one of the best love scene about (along with the TW2 triss elven ruins scene...great stroty telling scene imo) . Good camera angles, erotic and teasing rather than full on. I found it far more pleasing than any other game love scene since.

Nudity is what pissed off Fox News.
One (minor) nitpick in this otherwise fascinating discussion: I rather think Fox News was delighted, not "pissed off." It's exactly the sort of fodder that their viewers will get shocked about (or will pretend to be shocked about), regardless of whether or not those who run Fox News throught of it, and it generates rating. Given some of the stuff on Fox broadcasting (or the various other channels that they own), even during prime time, it's clear that they're not above titillation.
In other words, they don't care what's in the game, whether it's a casual nipple shot or a full-on group orgy. They'll happily pick on any violation of our culture's ill-defined code of ethics simply because it produces ratings and maybe gets some politicians grumpy. (Not that the politicians necessarily care, either, but it's good publicity for them, too.) It's the same thing that drove the fear around D&D in the 70's (I actually had an trigonometry teacher pull me aside and discuss my impending descent to the dark side if I continued to DM games, based on some ill-researched article she'd read).
Personally, I liked the romance scenes in DA2 better than DA:O. I don't care about nudity one way or the other in games-- fade to black works fine for me, but also I thought the semi-nude picture someone posted from the Witcher game (which I haven't played) earlier in this thread to be charming and inoffensive. I suppose that it's hard for me to get too excited about computer-generated nude images of impossibly-proportioned people, though I certainly agree that YMMV. (I do find it disconcerting when a character takes off clothing to reveal undergarments that clearly weren't there before, a la the DA:O scenes -- fade to black would certainly be preferable to that!
Of course, no romance scene could be more disconcerting than the one on the DA:O blooper reel, involving the darkspawn... that definitely should be avoided no matter what...

Witcher 2 had a lot of gratuitous nudity (and sex), and that's generally pleasing to a male demographic, but the actual romantic moments between Geralt and Triss (and even Ves) were enough of a contextual contrast to make it memorable. Personally, while I don't think the nudity was bad, I'd prefer it to make sense in the context of the story and character development. In that light, the partial nudity of the love scene with Shepard in ME1 was every bit as good, if not better, than the full nudity of TW2's love scenes between Geralt and Triss.
Unfortunately, what Bioware has done since ME1 in ME2, DA:O and DA2 has been progressively more awkward and awful.

Although I believe the idea was that DA:O would have full nudity, which was eventually removed.

Kind of like how Mass Effect allowed for lesbian love scenes, but not homosexual men. The alien sex adjustment thing was a cop out to get a chick on another chick.
That said, the love scenes in Mass Effect are, sadly, the best Bioware has produced. classy, subtle, and realistic.
I think, since all of the ridiculous controversy, back when ME launched, Bioware has been afraid of love scenes. As each game after ME has gradually become more and more PG. Until you have people lying post-coitus, in full clothig, or Morrigan taking off her clothes and then putting on (modern) underwear to have sex.
Eventually the PC will simply exchange a Thundercats (or Jem and the Holograms, if female) Valentines day card with their partner of choice, and call it a night.

Compared to that, the love scenes should feature no-holes-barred dwarftossing.* It's a little jarring when all of a sudden your dark fantasy developes the attributes of a tv sitcom.
*this should at least be the next DLC

Please BioWare, consider a marriage scene for future romance in Dragon Age. XD It's the summum of romance.
Beh for some people. I imagine if you asked Isabela to marry you get a dagger in your ribs.

Nah, it wouldn't be Isabela that would stick the dagger where the sun don't shine - it would be Zevran. But in deferrence to your point, it wouldn't be in character for Isabela to marry. I think the best you could hope for with her is monogomy, and that would be asking a lot from her. And with Merril, well, I'm sure she'd marry you, but it would only be a matter of time before you woke up with an Abomination in your bed.

That's a whole 'nother can of bull**** right there. The insane double stgandard, of violence over sex in popular culture. Kids can watch heads explode all day, but a nipple slips at the Super Bowl and all of our puritanical roots come out to play.

Really? She's jaded, not psychopathic. Even jaded may be too strong. She's been hurt and it's obvious she doesn't want to go through that again. So she keeps relationships simple.
If asked for marraige I'd imagine she'd just laugh and say someone thing clever.

As far as the Witcher, nudity does not make good sex scenes. The generic sex in the brothels was not anything special, but I thought the love scene with Triss was well done, from the setting, to the elf telling the story of the lovers during.

I was exaggerating for the sake of my point, your suggestion is closer to what she'd do. What I meant is that she'd turn it down (and that's perfectly ok IMO).FiachSidhe wrote...

I'd say DA2 was wayyyy better than ME1. Granted I've only seen Femshep/Liara as I only played ME 1 once, but as I recall it was dark, awkward music, and then there was a hand? And some rolling I think... ? Very half-assed, anyway. I prefer scenes that communicate the emotional significance (whether that be high e.g. Anders/Hawke or low, e.g. Hawke/Isabela) with a hint of spice. I'm not opposed to full on sex scenes but I'm not quite sure the medium is ready for it/awkward or blocky character models would be wayyy worse than fade to black (*recalls pointy warden boobs of DAO, shudders*
