i often hear how its possible to harden both leliana and alistair, so i was wondering if it might be possible to soften morrigan.

You get to see a softer side. You don't get to change her personality.

There was one occasion where I bought a mirror gift that turned out to be just like the one she was telling me about, the one she stole as a child and the one Flemeth later destroyed. When she asked what she wants in return one of the choices was something like "You can stop being a b**** " she said she promises to work on that. It was my first playthrough so I didn't know anything and chose the option "it's a gift". Perhaps, that occasion has some consequences later on.

Please let us know if it will affect anything. In my second playthrough I'm planning to romance Morrigan, so I would like to know if that mirror has any use.

I'm not sure if I "softened" her or not, but later on it seemed like she stopped objecting to my "nice" choices, and when she did, I could persuade her to see things my way.

and how exactly did you go about that?
i take it you went for her friend route, assuming that avatar represents the player character from that playthrough.

Yet no matter how "soft" she appears to become she has had an ulterior motive throughout the game i had a nagging feeling at the end of the game i had well and truly being tricked and manipulated by a game character :} I literally hadnt expected it after her "Freindly" side came out.
