No.
Interestingly enough, a game that is far larger scale (Medieval 2 Total War) had separate two-handed axe and two-handed sword animations and took out the stabbing moves to mace and axe-wielding units.
Considering realism isn't DA2's forte, I doubt they'll be creating separate hammer and sword animations.

Woah there, let's not assume that DA2's fortes will govern all future DA games. That's pretty pessimistic.

I don't really like how life was completely devalued in DA2 though; Origins had it easier because you were fighting darkspawn, but when you kill say, fifty blokes in some random encounter, these guys could have had families and kids, and to throw their lives away so mindlessly is something I have a hard time accepting.
Went on a bit of an off-topic rant there though, carry on guys.

Sword and axe were the same, maces were not. Mace's finishers, if I remember correctly, were more bashing the enemies head multiple times, etc.
The ones that were the same were the ogre and dragon finishers. Maybe a few more.
There are zero differences in DA2 though.

(But yeah in all seriousness that's one of the biggest faults of DA2 no attention for details)

Yeah, I get your point, those thugs have probably killed only a single person, or even just stole something and that's why they were considered thugs, and you go there and slice their limbs and bash their heads off for the fun of it, without real reason, (maybe they were working with the thugs to feed their families..), so you orphan their children and wodow their wifes, but yeah, who cares? You're even called the champion. That's always the case in action games or movies. This reminds me of a very good saying that best describes the situation here:alex90c wrote...
It was more an attempt at satire rather than an actual opinion, but I wouldn't say it was far off the mark. The only thing I feel which is a positive thing about the combat is that because it's more stylised it looks fancier, and since the game is so heavily combat oriented (Martin: Check where my goods are | Hawke: Ok | plow way through a hundred or so guys for no reason) it makes fights quicker to go through.

I stand corrected.
At least archery didn't absolutely SUCK in this game. One of DA2's saving graces.
Hell, I'm currently forcing myself to play through the game again. Yes, FORCING myself.

No offense, but why?
I can't think of a single excuse to play a game I don't like.
