Hell, I'm currently forcing myself to play through the game again. Yes, FORCING myself.

No offense, but why?

I can't think of a single excuse to play a game I don't like.

Because I want to give this game another chance.

I still have FFXIII and barely played it. Why? Cause its so DAMN SLOW. Beautiful game though.

I still have Just Cause 2 and barely played it. Why? Cause its a TPS without a cover system.

I still have Splinter Cell: Conviction and....haven't even played it. Why? Not interested.

But I MIGHT give them another chance, as I'm doing with DA2.

Plus, I've beaten every Bioware game I own more than once. If I can somehow drudge through DA2 one more time, I can still say that.

So you don't really have a good excuse, either.

Just making sure.

I did raise an eyebrow when Hawke stabbed someone right through with an axe. Also when I played blood mage Hawke had a staff that had a kind of crescent shape on the top, not the staff I would have chose if I was planning on sticking it right through my gut and out my back. Ouch.

I'm not really sure why some weapons have the 'Messy Kills' attribute, because the whole point of that in Origins was that when wielding it, you had a greater chance of doing finishing moves, which don't even exists in DA2.

I would much rather have the characters using hammers in ways that are implausible than to have the game only offer me swords and axes, and I very much expect that's the way they would solve this problem.

You know what I want? I want a warrior with a quarterstaff. DAO's weapon selection was already far too narrow, and DA2 has only made it worse.

Yeah, that is what i fear too. Instead of creating new sets of animations for weapons, they would probably simply remove some weapon choices.

I am right with the people who would like perfect animations for every weapons... But not at the cost of weapon options.

It is a sad weapon choice we have already with DA2. So limitating. Like if every freakin rogues in the world shoudl be using dual weapons or a bow...

At least, in The Witcher 2,  you are not encouraged to use non-standard weapons like polearms and such BUT THEY ARE THERE,  you can use them if you want. The animations are not very realistic for such weapons but at least they let you use them and that's cool.

Now, i have yet to find a bow or a crossbow in TW2 and i fear there are not any and that is kinda sad... Heh, it's never perfect Image IPB

In fact, they've already done that.

We didn't get any 1-handed hammers in DAO, and DA2's even more restrictive in how it forces only daggers and small swords on Rogues, with no blunt options at all.

I was blunt weapons back.  And I don't want weapons restricted by class.

I very much wish The Witcher had used a less actiony combat system.  I suspect I would have enjoyed the game.

If this issue was going to be solved, it would probably be solved by scrapping everything except swords.

Holy crap that's genius be careful or your gonna be scouted as a Lead Game Designer for Bioware!

I agree, he gave the perfect solution, I can't believe I never thought of it. Wulfram, were are you when we need you? Your creativity, ingenuity, and omniscience cannot go to waste, your talents must be utilized. Meet me tonight, at the pillocks' tavern, where you will feel like home. The thought of removing hammers instead of adding an animation for them is so tremendous, I can't sit and not think about it.

Were the hammer, sword and axe combat animations different from each other in Dragon Age: Origins?

I played mostly a mage so I don't remember.

No.

Interestingly enough, a game that is far larger scale (Medieval 2 Total War) had separate two-handed axe and two-handed sword animations and took out the stabbing moves to mace and axe-wielding units.

Considering realism isn't DA2's forte, I doubt they'll be creating separate hammer and sword animations.

I've been playing alot of Medieval 2 Total War, and Third Age lately and I was noticing that very same thing. There are alot of combat moves going on for alot of different weapon types. And you know what else? There are bow strings on the bows, and my computer doesn't seem tohave an issue processing all that data when a thousand archers are launching flaming arrows. Now that is "Awesome!" Image IPB

Our tastes don't always intersect, but I'm with you on the quarterstaff thing.  I'm not sure I've ever seen a game really support fighter-types with the staff, though.  (To say nothing of the animations.  Oy vey!)
