I have had DAO since it was released, never had one problem.

I haven't played in a while, so decide to revisit.

Every single time I get to Ostagar, no matter which character or which beginning I choose, when I get to Ostagar with Duncan (after the dialog with the king) and try to cross the bridge into the camp, on the bridge at the same location DAO hangs!!!!!!

Why? Never had the problem before? Posted Image

Have you changed computer or os since you played trough it before?
Anyhow you should post a bit more information about your problem (for a description of how to write a report of an issue: http://social.biowar...8/index/7280573) if you want anyone to be able to help you

If you follow the thread, you can see I am frustrated. I was asked for a fuller description of the problem. I do want some help, so the following is an attempt at a fuller description:

GAME EDITION: the disc is an original release

FORMAT OF THE GAME MEDIA: what the h*** is that? whatever the game game with; i bought a DAO DVD for PC

PATCH VERSION:
DAO.exe - v1.03
DAOLauncher.exe-v1.01
DAOConfig.exe-v1.03
Uninstall DA.exe-v1.03

HARDWARE SPECS:

processor: AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60
clock speed: 1998 MHz
phys mem: 1.87 GB
display adapter: ATI RADEON X1270
vram: 192mb
sound adapter:Speakers / Headphones (SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC)
driver version:6.10.5614.0
os:Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium
directx ver:DirectX 11

NO 3RD PARTY MODS - NONE

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM

#1 - the screen / the action / the character (s) , it all stops ; it freezes // i.e. if the character is in stride is frozen in stride, etc. BUT the music continues to play and the other sounds of the game are still present, for example, the camp (that I can't get to) has Mabari hounds - you can hear them barking

#2 - when did the problem start occuring?

well, as a stated above, it only started since i have now begun to play again

so, in DAO after the beginning, whatever beginning, is chosen, you always eventually end up at Ostagar with Duncan, the king, Logain, etc. you must cross the ostagar bridge into the camp, find alistair, go out into the kakari wilds, etc BUT I CAN NOT GET ACROSS THE BRIDGE!!!!! once Duncan takes off with my mabari hound (playing as a human noble, for example) I must cross too , as a reach the other side of the bridge, going up the little incline on the way to talk with the guard standing there - FROZEN just frozen

ALWAYS AT THE SAME PLACE

AT THE END OF THE BRIDGE HEADED UP TO GO INTO THE CAMP HAVEN'T REACHED THE GUARD STANDING THERE / ONE STEP IS ALL IT TAKES

#3 - how frequently does the problem occur?

well, EVERY TIME / i have restarted and tried every beginning senario / everything i try to cross the bridge whatever the character - FROZEN

#4 - where in the game does the problem occur?

think i covered this one

#5 - modified the game? NOPE

Hey, I hope this helps. I really love the game! If you can spot the problem - great! If you need more info - I'll try to provide it!

THX

Okay... first off, sorry you're having troubles. The complete report helps. A couple of things... first off, your hardware is bare minimum for the game, so you'll have to be playing at low graphics settings. Assuming for a moment that you're using the *same* settings now as you did before, it could be a few things:

1) Overheating. My gut tells me this is the most likely, because of a couple of things. First, your having a problem at the most graphically (and CPU) demanding part of the game up to that point. Second, you're using a laptop, which is going to be more susceptible to overheating. And third, overheating issues can develop over time, as dust builds up in the chassis of the laptop and fans become less efficient. So my recommendation... get a can of compressed air and blow out your laptops vents... working from one side of the case to the other if possible. Also, you can use a utility to monitor temps... there are some links towards the bottom of the Solutions Roundup.

2) If you eliminate overheating... then it could be something has been corrupted in your installation. Uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling might help. The current patch for the game is 1.04.

3) If you've updated your video driver since the last time you've played, you may consider rolling back to an older one.

That's a place to start, at least. Again, I think overheating is the most likely culprit.

Actually, promoting that poor excuse of a graphics device all the way up to the level of "bare minimum" is making a mouse out of a (small & sickly) cockroach.  The minimum (official joke) Radeon X850 was somewhere between eight and ten times as fast as the silly little Xpress 1270 chipset video chip was.  As I recall, that chip's graphics were some sort of intermediate between the Xn00 generation and the X1n00 generation, not quite all in either category, it was most certainly very VERY slow -- about like the X1050 card, in fact, so let's put it next to an X850 for a really awful comparison.

Since the Radeon X1650 XT makes actual SENSE as a minimum, here is that one next to the X1050:

IMO, continuing to overstress a system with such a weak graphics subsystem is going to continue overheating it, and deterioration will occur to various other parts unable to dissipate the shared heat, including the RAM and the many Capacitors that are already among the few electronic parts subject to gradual loss of efficiency.

If that's what's happening, that laptop is on its last legs by now.  No amount of tweaking or driver swapping will help:
