Why everyone hates DA2 when TW2 made many of the same design decisions?

Ultimately, I think it's those who played both games who are capable of having the most complete and educated POV in regards to this issue.

Not denying however that a number of TW fans have been acting obnoxiously lately.

Wait, Squirrels, not squirrels. Squirrels is the nick name for the rebel group called the Scoiatael. Not cute little fuzzy mammals. I haven't seen any squirrels in the forest. I have seen rats in the dungeons, and ravens that take flight from corpses when you come too close.  But no squirrels. Of course the forest is very crowded with plant life, and other creepy nasties which I may be too busy killing to notice wildlife. but I think they mean the rebel group.

I was just checking on the zealot thing. I don't have a problem with you voicing your opinion sweetie, never have. I am just wondering why bother to prove zealotry or bias. Well, unless it's fun for you.

Guess that particular Witcher did not clarify it enough! Thanks! Sounded like all the rats, bats, and vermin quests read about on MMO's.

The problem here is that you're comparing TW2 to DA2...
If you compare TW2 to TW1 (which doesn't have a turn based combat btw) then you see that their structure is still very similar.
But when you compare DA2 to DAO you see how different DA2 is compared to the previous game. And that's why a lot of people criticized it.

Actually, I think TW2 changed what was in TW1 equally if not more than DA2 did with Origins. But it's because they did it so well, that people don't complain as much.

The changes in TW2 in comparison to TW1 are as dramatic as the changes between DA2 and DAO especially in regards to combat, controls and interface. The mouse can be used to better effect in TW1 than TW2. The Inventory system has changed from grid based to list. The interface is not as streamlined in TW2 as it was in TW1. Formula memorization was possible in TW1 not TW2. There are other significant changes such as using the mouse for strong/fast attack.
The changes are there some do not notice them as much because as KOP points out some gamers feel they did a better job of it.

It is a Elven thing.
But i guess it is very absurd if you do not take any time to actually play a game hailed by most to be the BEST rpg to come out in ages.

It was your messenger; not mine; just used the quote I had on hand.

Don't need to play a game that beckons elsewhere. Pls feel free to go play the BEST and praise it on their Forums. Oops! My bad....

What difficultly did you play? My DA2 playthroughs, completionist and all, are in the 50s. What did you squeeze out of DA:O?

Taken from the previous page; started on Hard; turned down to Normal for majority of play.

First play: Rogue (26th)
* Time Played: 111 hrs 51 min
* Saves: 3115

Second Play: Mage (25th)
* Time Played: 77 hrs 39 min
* Saves: 4117

Currently 5 hrs into third game as a Warrior.. The days played in off as I was away from system for a while mid-game, and breaks.

... did you inspect every blade of grass, every bit of stone? Perhaps spent hours looking up at the ceiling?

Those numbers seem almost impossible, unless theres hours of leaving the game running, and walking everywhere. I was ready to rip my hair out after 10 hours...

DA2 counts play time when the game is paused. I wouldn't be surprised if it also counts playtime when you hit Esc and are on the menu screen.

Easy mistake to make, even in game! I kept hearing the kids talk about killing squirrels. They were poor and I figured it was a poor kids past time. Come to find out they call the rebel group Squirrels as slang for Scoiatael.

I totally see how it would be ridiculous to mention fuzzy tailed rodents and compare the games on them. ROFL!

I passed DA2 in 30hrs - Witcher 2 - 70 hours and counting - love that a game was $20 less and is still providing repeated playthroughs. Origins was $10.00 less - multiple playthroughs - lost count on how many hours but definately more then 30.

My first playthrough of DA:O was over 105 hours (I tried to be real thorough, which meant revisiting some locations). Those figures of Elh are for DA:O, right? If so, ~110 hours seems about right. :P

My first playthrough of DA2 was around 65 hours, I think (like in DA:O, I tried to be real thorough).
I dunno how much time I have on my 2nd playthrough...and frankly, I don't care as I don't feel like playing it anymore after my disappointment. (I tried to start, tho', and got past the initial visit to the Gallows, but...*shrugs*)

Sorry mar! I loved Yahtzee guy's review of Minecraft.

Anyways, I love TW2's beautiful enviornments. I would spend hours trapsing amongst the dead villagers in the forest looking at the grass swaying in the wind, or the way the sunlight filters through the canopy...if I wouldn't die doing so!  ROFL! :lol: Seriously, Nekkers **** Nekkers! :pinched::o

I tend to be methidical,  esp when saving. And I am a bit compulsive in play.

But I still have my hair, and perhaps some patience, as not every poster can be as condescending as they appear to be.

I wasn't. I was trying to think how you wre able to get DA2 playthrough over 100+ hours. It seems impossible!

Actually, I had a stroke and took some time off to relearn the mechanics. But thanks for the thought, Francis.

Was the stroke Dragon Age 2 related? You should inform your physicians, just in case.

I don't understand how it's possible to get 100 hours out of DA:O. Do you read every codex twice? Walk everywhere? I just don't get it. I could never top ~70 hours, with every trash sidequest possible and backtracking.

On my end, I tried to be REAL THOROUGH. I went back to check/double-check some locations (old habit: I was hoping to grind a few more levels...too bad stuff doesn't respawn :P ) and talking to every possible NPC (and, generally, not skipping dialogue).

So, there: around 110 hours.
