I think the Witcher 2 will get more awards from independent sites, gamers and critics then say Dragon Age 2. But I think the VGA´s won´t recognize an european title without a big moneymachine behind it. Sadly.

It's   extremely rare  for  ANY indie outfit to get the more vaunted Awards from the VGA's.   Doesn't really matter where they're from.

That said,   Witcher 2   kinda does have a  big moneymachine behind it.  Atari - their publisher.  That's a good start.

I always keep wondering that. As has been said, especially after Oblivion.

Morrowind was great. In its time and age I daresay it was groundbreaking, but Oblivion hardly lived up to its predecessor. And what is conveniently forgotten when nostalgia strikes is the fact, that Bethesda did its worst when they tried to keep modders at bay at launch. That picked up only later when their horse armor and all the other crap they wanted to sell, sat in their stores like lead.

Yes, Skyrim is certainly something I'm looking at, but in this time and age I take a good hard look at any given product. And I'm certainly not the one to offer praise before I have even seen the package.

I think the difference between Skyrim and Oblivion is in the reputation which their predecessors had established. Pre-release, Oblivion articles told us that guilds, skills, enchanting cities, etc, had all been reduced so that each would have greater detail. The game took away many RPG-like features, but it really didn't give anything back in return. It's true that Skyrim follows this example (removing 3 more skills and attributes), however between dual-wielding, perks, and Dragon Shouts we do seem to be getting something back for our return.

After Morrowind, Oblivion's release came as a huge shock to some fans, being radically different from its predecessor. Skyrim definitely seems to be more similar to Oblivion than Morrowind, however based on previews there doesn't seem to be as much change. Plus, there's finally Dragons! Image IPB

You honestly think TW2 is worse than DA2, and that TW2 won't be nominated while DA2 will??

Made my day!

TW2 is absolute garbage. The combat system, the magic and alchemy haven't been improved at all. In fact, it's more frustrating, annoying and anti intuitive. Dragon Age 2 has somehow managed to be better despite having a billion flaws.

Ahahahahahahahahahaha.

Man thank you for the good laugh, that was such a stressfull day for me.

BTW 10/10 for such a trolling :)

If TW2 is good then why are people spending their time whining about DA2 still ?

TW2 has it glaring  flauts suchs as bad camera angles during combat,  unbalanced encouters and area transition problems.

It's basically a generic hack n slash RPG with more boobs than DA2.  Neither games are anything special.

Deal with it. The game was meant to be hard and you whine and blame it for being "unbalanced" instead of realizing that its just your lack of skill as a player or inability to figure out the strategies by using this special human skill called "READING". You're given more than enough options on how to deal with certain encounters. This game punishes stupidity and no offence buddy , but judging from your QQ, it appears that you got punished hard.

People who are complaining about the combat system or some hard fights in TW2 haven't figured out how to play The Witcher 2 properly yet. Sure, you don't get a huge tutorial teaching you the do's and dont's, and I died a few time in the Prologue, BUT after that you shouldnt have really problems with the combat (well if you game as a RPG, upgrade your armor/weapons/potions).

Hell CDProjekt said "Deal with it" the game wasn't meant to be easy it's supposed to be hardcore.

I do like these elitist replies who make make assumption they can't back up.

The fact is most bosses can kill you in two hits,  one will drop the damage shield and the second will drop your health to zero.

Let's take the Kayran boss in act 1 who basic stratergy in press Q to plant trap then round about pressing Q again to keep your damage shield up.  If your hit without the shield it's game over and it will happen due to recharge times on vigor.

I must say an amazing amount of skill is involved .

So maybe when you remove the rose tinted glasses then you reply with something worth reading.

So if it doesn't take skill why are you complain? Should it not be easy to get pass everything?

Is this a rhetorical question?   This is the second time I've heard someone  ask that in 2 days.

Needless to say,  Someone possessed of a developed human mind could love something while complaining about something else at the same time.   It's hardly unusual.  And this place is a community anyway.  many of us would be here even if neither game existed.

But where were we?  Oh Yeah, The Witcher 2.  I'm on my second playthough and I  just discovered something  that  totally blew my mind.  There's two different  chapter 2's!  Holy Sh*T.  There's no "illusion" of choice in this game.  There's actual choice.    One small decision you make in chapter 1 determines what friggin CITY you end up in for the entirety of the next chapter, sidequests and all.

Nonsense.

I let the Kayran hit me a few times.  I didn't need to use the Quen shield sign a single damn time in that battle.

It borders insanity to say TW2 is nothing special while the whole world is in awe because of so much special it actually is!

As for hard or not tactics or anything about combat.. watch some of my vids... worst enemy in TW2 is ignorance about what you're fighting.. that and Fraps killing my FPS from20-25 to 13-15 during capture!

Ignore the OP anything that doesn't fit into his narrow mind of what an RPG is becomes a bad game.

which will undoubtedly bolster Bioware's confidence that they can get away with games like that and still be winners.

I have just played one of the big contenders for RPG of the year, The Witcher 2 and I have to say it's complete garbage. The developers didn't even bother to improve the game, it seems. Combat is as bad as ever. The dialogues are ridiculous as is the whole gameplay. It's another fiasco of a game disguising itself as an "RPG" while being nothing of the sort.

The saddest thing  about current RPG market is as bad as DA2 was, it still remains one of the better RPG games on the market today. I feel Bioware is unfairly exploiting the lack of RPG competition these days and riding their name to big profits.

Who is left to challenge them except ME3, which is their own game?

i wont even bother buying Dragon Age 2 his review score SUCK,The Witcher 2 however have been praised in many game site,so stick it DA2 far in your backside AND SAY i love it,lol   Image IPB

And that's why, for all it's faults, TW2 deserves praise as the potential RPG of the year. Because it combines choice & consequence with decent if predictable action combat.

Also a different Act III. So Witcher 2 decisions have a much bigger impact on the game then say Dragon Age 2 ever did.

DEMAND that you prove that TW2 has more choices than DA2 with objective facts! When you have expended your energy trying to do so, I will simply ignore you, act like I have proved that you like DA2 even though you mistakenly think you don't, accuse you of being a troll, and/or sign off with some vacuous pratitude like "haters gonna hate lol".

Oh wait, not really.

Sounds awesome, can't wait to play it :D

Funny how this thread is mostly about Witcher 2 and Skyrim, but it remains open probably because the thread title says DA2 will be RPG of the year.
